    I don't make special snacks. I keep bananas, oranges, grapes & apples in read at all times. I've learned to buy a few of each at a time, unless I'm planning to juice or freeze. My family has more interest in eating fruits when it looks fresh and scarce. With a full bowl, they think they have plenty of time to eat them later, then don't. Scarcity drives demand.

    Thank you so much for your many videos. My family and I are just beginning our plant based oil free journey. Your videos have made it less intimidating. As my hubby hates anything green, this has been a daunting experience. Keep those videos rolling!😀😀

    Yes! Any leftover smoothie can be transferred to a clean mason jar with a lid, and stored in the fridge for later. I always have a cup or so leftover. I just add to the next morning's smoothie, drop in a few banana chunks, splash of milk, if needed, and blend.

    The past couple of days, the family & I have been enjoying, frozen banana & blueberries, ground flaxseed, fresh baby spinach in nondairy milk and water.

    Hi esiepiela! Oatmeal smoothies keep me going longer that regular fruit/veg smoothies. Lately, I've been mixing 2 cups rolled oats, 1/4 cup raw sunflowers seeds, and 1/2 cup golden raisins together for a muesli mix. Cover the mix with one inch filtered water and store in a 1-quart jar in the fridge. I measure out 1/2 cup per serving, blend it first as shown in the video, then add other frozen ingredients & cold liquids.

    Great question, Kimkrisrich. I wouldn't lump all "protein powders" into my explanation because there are so many different variations on the market. In the vid, I used Hemp protein powder to boost the fiber & protein in the drink. Since this video, I've studied up on plant-based nutrition. Turns out, when we eat a variety of plant foods, we don't need to supplement with pills & powders. The hemp powder is still a good thing, but I don't have to rely on it. ;D

    Thank you, Cara! Let me know what you think after you try it. This morning, I blended oatmeal, mango, frozen strawberries, orange juice, with a splash of milk.
    Oh and I had to give it a squeeze of maple syrup to knock off the tanginess. It was like drinking a grapefruit milkshake, but in a good way. ;D

    My morning smoothies contain as many veggies as there are fruits. And I only put in 1/2 a banana. I also add almond milk kefir, oat bran, chia seed, hemp if I have some on hand and plenty of ice.

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  10 лет назад

      I've not heard of almond milk kefir. Do you make it yourself?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural 10 лет назад +1

      Sorry, there is supposed to be a comma in there. The almond milk and the kefir being 2 separate ingredients. I do make my own kefir from grains obtained from my niece who also makes her own. I also make homemade kombucha tea and share the SCOBYS whenever I can.

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  10 лет назад

      helpfulnatural Ok now I have to ask, what is SCOBYS?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural 10 лет назад

      Kombucha tea is a fermented beverage that is rich in probiotics. A SCOBY is the culture that is used for the fermenting process. It stands for: Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria & Yeast.

      you need to soak your oats (same with nuts) before. Do not just put rolled oats in the blender every morning....you are blocking the absorption of nutrients. Untreated phytic acid(on all un soaked nuts, oats, rice etc) can combine with calcium, magnesium, iron, copper, and zinc in the intestinal trak and block their absorption.

  • @gladtidings4all
    @gladtidings4all 7 лет назад

    What I do is dry blend rolled oats in batches to fill up a mason jar Add a touch of cinnamon and honey wheat germ powder and mix well. Then in my blender I do add frozen banana, strawberry, blueberries, add 2 scoops of my oatmeal powder mix no need for protein powder fruit and oatmeal has protein along with my homemade almond milk. Just blend and all natural.

    i like making smoothie bowls. basically a smoothie with less of an amount of liquid. i usually do 2 cups of frozen fruit, some almond milk, and i top it off with 2 cups of oats, a bunch of flax and chia seeds and some fresh fruit.

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  8 лет назад

      +hellpked I've seen those in juice shops but haven't tried making one myself. I could easily have a smoothie bowl for lunch ;D I've learned I like uncooked rolled oats and enjoy eating them straight up with fruit, no liquid. Pretty good stuff!

      Janice Harris THANK YOU for watching my vids and finding me fun. I love you for that right from the start.
      The kids and I are totally hooked on having rolled oats in our morning smoothies. Occasionally I run out of oats and the kids notice. I've noticed too they get hungrier for lunch sooner when I haven't put oats in the smoothies. It's not a lot of oats but what's there helps keep us going until lunch.

      Simple Daily Recipes nutritionfacts have a lot of good videos on vegetables, but when they talk about meat and dairy it's extreme, in other words it's vegan propaganda and should be taken with a grain of salt. follow the references and it's never quite the same as the videos.

    I noticed you added protein to your smoothie. You may want to try this. Make some yogurt,hey another way to use your Instant pot, then strain through cheesecloth for 3 or more hours giving you smooth Greek yogurt. The liquid after straining is Whey,you probably know this but for those who don't. Whey contains proteins,probiotics along with numerous vitamins minerals ,basically everything you find in yogurt. It can be frozen as in ice cube trays or it will keep in a fridge in a glass jar. A lot of people dispose of the whey not knowing it has numerous uses. I add it to smoothies,soup, beans basically anything calling for water added in a recipe. I don't substitute 1 to 1 but I add a little whey with my water in the recipe. Here's a tip. Add a little whey to your dogs food they love it.

      Thank you for sharing, Larry. Some time after this video was made, I learned more about nutrition and that protein was in every fruit, vegetable, grain, seed and nut. I don't need to supplement my smoothies with protein at all. So long as I eat enough calories from whole plant foods, I get the right balance of all the nutrients without the need to supplement.

      Than you understand nothing there is no new or old understanding just science. The body needs two things protein and healthy fats.That don't change just because your a vegan and no I don't eat meat.I would drink that smoothie.

    • @JillMcKeever
      @JillMcKeever  8 лет назад +3

      I understand there is protein in all fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts and I do not need to supplement my smoothies or meals with processed proteins in order to fuel my body properly. I understand protein should make up at least 10 percent of total calories of my diet, which is easy to reach since 25% of the calories in the average vegetable comes from protein. So long as I'm eating meals made from whole plant-foods without processed oils and sugars, I'm in good shape. :D

    I typically make traditional (old fashioned) oatmeal, but recently I have found a nice recipe for waffles. It has 3 ingredients. Oat flour, banana and water. Sometimes a add walnuts. Mix the banana and 1/2 cup of water in the blender, then add the mixture to the flour. Then put the mixture into your waffle iron. If it is Teflon, no fat is needed (butter/oil spray). That makes about two waffles. If you use mature waffles, the end result will be sweeter.

      +Simple Daily Recipes Sweet Potato Waffles from PCRM
      Makes 4 waffles
      2 cups rolled oats
      2 1/2 cups water
      1 cup cooked sweet potato or yam (about 2 medium sweet potatoes)
      1 ripe banana
      2 tablespoons maple syrup, or other liquid sweetener (agave, brown rice syrup, etc.)
      1/2 teaspoon sodium-free baking powder
      1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
      1/4 teaspoon salt
      1 teaspoon vanilla extract
      Place oats, water, sweet potato or yam, banana, syrup, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and vanilla into blender and blend until completely smooth. Preheat a nonstick waffle iron and spread a layer of batter, then cook for 8 to 10 minutes without lifting the lid. The cooking time may vary slightly with different waffle irons.
      Note: The batter should be pourable. If it becomes too thick as it stands, add a bit more water to achieve the desired consistency.

    The amount of banana you put in is insane. That thing, don't know what you wanna call it, will taste like grassy banana!

    all i gotta say is "thank God you finally lost the bunny ears" I can't take anything you say seriously when you have those things on. Now you look like someone who's imparting important info.

      Yeah, well, this video was shot 4 years ago, before the bunny ears. Allow me share four great reasons why I wear the bunny ears and will continue to wear them:
      1. The bunny ears have proven to attract 1000s of positive, encouraging people to my community every month, more than before I started wearing them.
      2. Those positive, encouraging fans have become part of a lifestyle support group I lead that lends help for plant-based newbies and those working through challenges. They're also a great cheer squad for those quietly experiencing success living plant-based but have no one to share it with.
      3. People who are not plant-based find me funny and approachable with the bunny ears and feel safe to ask me about the lifestyle without feeling judged.
      4. Parents and grandparents with little kids are able to watch more of my cooking videos because the kids find me fun to watch, too.
      I think all of that is pretty cool. Life with the bunny ears is good. I'm reaching plenty of people, providing unforgettable content, inspiring everyday, all while still having fun. :D

      all good and valid points, but personally i find you funny and very approachable wo the ears, but then again, I'm a nurse and not an expert on building youtube channels 😆. I'm not new to plant based foods, but I am new to I-Pots. I can every summer, so I have a stove top canner that holds 7 qts, but I've never had an electric pressure cooker, or cooked in one. I'm finding your channel most informative, and believe the first thing I'll use it for is to make the pizza potatoes with the sweet potatoes. It looked great, thx

      When you go to make the pizza potatoes, make sure you have plenty of sauce on the bottom of the pot. If you're going to use a thick marinara, then add 1 cup water or veggie broth to the bottom first then the first layer of marinara. Some folks have run into the issue of the iPot not coming to pressure for that recipe; the lack of liquid is the culprit.
      Have a great week! :D
