Just seen on the men exiting the pit my old workmate Pete Cooper we worked together at Calverton before moving to Bilsthorpe this was taken after I left to go and work for Dosco as a service engineer. Unfortunately he passed away 2 years ago RIP old friend
My Father also worked at Bilsthorpe colliery, his name was Cyril Davies. He died in 1980, he was my hero and when i watch these videos of the miners, it makes me even more proud of him. Total respect for all our miners, they did a difficult and dangerous job in order to provide for their families. I was devastated when the pits closed. The disrespect for the mining industry was a bitter blow for all these men.😥😥
Wow I recognise quite a few of those Faces.... Good times they were..... Brought back some Memories ... Did they ever build a museum or Information centre, Or did they Just Flatten it, When it closed.... I never went back after the day i left in 1986... Iv still got the Interdepartmental Cricket winners Cup we won in 1984... Id like to send it back to Bilsthorpe one Day....
Hi mick, yes there's a museum in the village, they will be celebrating their 20th anniversary on the 20th July, I shall be going along, I have never forgotten any of my ex work colleagues, only their names, Best time of my life
