Ppl don't think the extra foot and a half of the Sprekko is a big deal but it makes a huge difference with parking and squeezing into campspaces. Diesel and DEF is something extra I don't want to deal with and one can get the same lift for the Trekko , so I choose Trekko.😉
Agreed. A Ford Transit extended is 22'2" long. For an extra 10" of length, you get so much more interior space and a crapload more storage and you do not have to compromise on being able to safely carry more passengers while still having a dedicated shower/bathroom and a north south bedroom that allows people to get out of bed without crawling over their partner. But step up to something that is around 25' long, and that extra two feet can make a massive difference, especially for a vehicle that will be your sole method of non-bicycle transportation on your trips. Look at the European RV market and the common "semi-integrated" (akin to what we call "B+") offerings from companies like Hymer, Adria, Cathago, etc., most of them are 699cm long which is just under 23'. People also overlook how narrow these Ekkos are, which helps quite a bit with parkability and maneuverabilty as well. For an apples to apples comparison, the Ekko is four inches more narrow than something like a Navion and is almost seven inches more narrow than something like a Leisure Travel Vans B+.
Ford, but with the Sprinter's kitchen. Still a couple of years away from a purchase so hopefully that is an option. Prefer the Ford, prefer the short length. I am 6'3" and I'd rather sacrifice the vehicle length even with the too-short beds.
Yeah, I thought I wanted a Transit Ekko but getting the outdoor kitchen is not a good trade for comfort of the Sprinter. It's worth the extra $10k. The only mods I'd want is the extra fuel tank and litterbox access from the inside to one of the outer storage bins on the passenger side. You can put an extra refrigerator, grill, and table in the garage yourself no need to have it installed. I'm so in love with the wood-grain finish on the Sprinter interior, that really warms up the place. Great video!
Thanks, good points...without a doubt I'm usually a transit guy...Winnebago just did a great job with the sprinter version...I think it's all good until you have to get service though!
@@JimNuccitelli-g6i Not true, NOT 50% That's a wild exaggeration. 😆On average diesel gets 24% more city and 29% highway. Diesel still produces more smog, that's why DEF is required and it's still more expensive and higher maintenance costs compared to gas engines. Still less mechanics able to work on diesels as well. "Drivers who travel less than 10,000 miles on average each year will be unable to limit their fuel costs enough for a diesel engine to make financial sense unless they rarely drive in the city or currently drive a vehicle that requires premium gas."
Right, maybe for taller ppl the Sprekko would be more ideal. That extra length tho of the Sprekko may keep one out of more parking spaces, parks and campspots.
Coming from Navion. Understand the drawbacks of diesel and MB. The floor plan, clearance on dirt roads, driving position/comfort are keeping me with Sprinter. Love the eco boost tho …
Love the Sprekko. AWD, front seating that is comfortable (we spent 3 hours crawling all over one), and front seats with memory that don’t need a cushion to use. A lot more head room for those front seats, too. Really wish Winnebago had gone the whole distance here with 48v architecture as in the Revel and Travato.
I like them both. I believe they put the lock on the cassette toilet door so small children can't crawl into it and get stuck or something. I've noticed that most if not all that have that type of black "tank" do have locks. I am only assuming they do it for some safety reason.
I prefer cooking with gas and prefer having the outdoor kitchen but I absolutely love the dining/lounge area on the Sprinter model. It is a shame that the Transit model doesn’t have the same design. I don’t appreciate that Winnebago cuts corners with the different chassis models. Why couldn’t they at least make it a convection microwave on the Transit model?
Trekko - Gas is easier to find and it doesnt have Def, More Dealerships for maintenance, and more power. BUT the Sprekko is such a nicer layout..... Can WE PLEASE GET THE SPREKKO STYLE LAYOUT ON THE TREKKO PLEASE! We don't need the extra garage room or the 4" of bed (even though I do), but that front seating area and where the fridge location is SO much better. When I'm sitting lounging in my $200k+ MSRP RV I don't want to sit on public bus seats!
I just want the Trekko to have the Sprekko kitchen layout, ideally to include the convection. What I do not want is the extra almost 2' in length. If I wanted a ~25 foot RV, I would probably skip both and just get a small class C, although options without slides are not great.
I like everything about the Transit Ekko except that horrible lounge area, which is a deal breaker. Winnebago should take notes from the Aeon RV layout which moves the bath into the entryway and turns the bed sideways in favor of a couch size lounge area..
The lounge area is that way because it offers two actually safe passenger seats. The Sprinter, debatably, has one. Almost no other class B+s or small C's have any at all. The Ekkos, the Transit model in particular, is pretty much the only European style small motorhome on the U.S. market, although from the outside it doesn't look like one.
@@strangerpalooza , the network of Sprinter Service Centers needs to be increased greatly! There are quite a few states that do not have any, not acceptable when there are so many Sprinter RVs out there and traveling the country. The computer will often not recognize anything else but Mercedes original parts. Ask me how I know.
I’ve heard it is one of the main downsides of the MB Sprinter chassis but I so love everything about the Ekko on the Sprinter chassis model minus, the no outdoor kitchen. If the Transit model had the same lounge/dining area as the Sprinter model, I’d be all over it!! It seems I’m back to the Travato. If I’m going to go bigger and more expensive, I’d rather have the design of the Sprinter model.
The V6 diesel is a reliable engine. I’m very concerned about the 4 cylinder turbo hauling that much weight over a long period of time. I don’t want to be the early adopter on this one.
I’d go with the Ford, I deliver Mercedes Sprinters for a living. They can be problematic, I can’t begin to tell you how many times I’ve loaded them with check engine lights on or dead batteries brand new from the plant in South Carolina. And Mercedes dealerships are far and in between compared to Ford. Good luck finding someone who can work on them in the middle of nowhere.
It's even worse than that. As few Mercedes dealers as there are, only a subset of them will work on a Sprinter van, let alone a Sprinter RV. Sprinters are just fine as fleet vehicles so long as you confirm, as a business owner, that there is a service provider nearby you can contract with. But once you start wandering the country with one, you are rolling the dice.
I own the Ford and really like it but I wish the Sprinter option had been available at the time as I would’ve chosen the Sprinter for feature reasons. Just missed it by a few months.
Thanks for providing the link to the specifications but Winnebago doesn't list the OCCC - and we know why because it's so low. But that yellow sticker on the passenger door has it. Too bad you guys failed to look.
The Mercedes will make the better stationary Tiny Home after the German engineered 4 cylinder or electronics gives out as you try and find a Mercedes dealer that will service it within the next 12 or so months.....

Great Video but Unfortunately they didn’t make the bathroom room big enough for plus size men and women I would have to remove the middle wall and cap off the sink Thank You for sharing stay safe and healthy
and the shower door when opened is not designed to be open to close off between the compartments when someone else in front is using the shower in bathroom poor design the europe ones are way better design
Transit for the lower maintenance costs and proliferation of dealerships. Heard too many horror stories of people having issues with MB and needing to get towed hundreds of miles to dealer. No thanks.
My favorite story was on a vanlife forum where a Sprinter owner had to drive all the way from the wilderness outside of Moab to the nearest Mercedes dealer he could get to look at it, which was 250+ miles away in SLC. The punchline was that his transmission would not go above second gear. 250 miles in second gear...yeah. And there's a Ford dealer right outside of Moab, of course.

Gas is sooo much easier to find here and other countries, most of the time cheaper and no DEF to deal with.
