I have the k-1, superb knife, it is smaller and great for the backpack and hiking. The quality is A+ One thing worth noting is that TRC are semi-custom, all the knives are made by hand, there is a TRC youtube video that shows the work being undertaken to make a knife. This one reason why they cost a lot.
A great and very informative vid! I am going to order one. The price comes from being handmade, elmax steel, the teat and development process, and so on. Elmax is an amazing steel when it comes to rust resistant, and edge holding. The drawback is,it can be a bitch to sharpen in the field. Saying that,I feel it would make a great survival knife especially if your a bush pilot. Enough of my rambling. Have a great day,and keep the vids comming!
I acquired this knife a month ago. So happy with the purchase. Was a bit hesitant to bring it into the bush at first given the price (ended up bringing my old faithful Joker Lynx that I'm not scared to beat the crap out of), but now that I've used it a few times, I'm in love.
I love TRC but this model is not my fav... Given the money still if your looking at the steels and heat treats on offer there always a solid option and while pricy there still a far better then say a fixed Medford any day of the week. 3v apokolyps with the crazy heat treat finish would be my first buy from trc
The range lacks ergos on the handles... love crowned spines in the right place on the right knife... But, demand better ergos at this price range,, CnC'd Micarta is a must!
For the price I think it makes more sense to buy a custom knife with hand fit scales. I'm also not sold on blade stock over 1/8" for anything under 5". I've never had durability issues and the cutting performance/weight reduction is significant. How the tip is ground seems to have more impact on durability than anything else. Almost every knife is handmade to some extent, this seems like every other survival style knife just with a little better fit and finish. It looks like a nice knife just not for me.

Do you like this or the Lionsteel M4 more? Which one is your favorite?
I like the m4 better
Very nice, but 320$ and over is a bit steep.

There is a massive difference in price between the trc south pole and the lionsteel m4
