Ayrton Senna cared a lot more about safety than Balestre. And of course he did, it was his life after all that was at risk. Balestre needed a good kick up the arse. Which Ayrton very politely gave him.
Yes cuz the cold wheather in Scandinavia keeps the body young and they look much younger that they really are. With the increasing the global temperature we will aging much faster. That's why we must diminish the global warming cuz we're far enought from the sun and the hole temperature increase is due to our action on the climate not from the action of da sun.
Senna was an intelligent driver. I enjoyed every single race he participated in, He had it all figured out. I was devastated when he died. I will always cherish the the races he was in I enjoyed with my late father. Those were the days!
that is not a briefing but someone who is risking his life vs. someone who does not care about that risk. i think senna suffered a lot in hisl life. he seems so emotional person. he did understand things others never could and that was his main problem. balestre never raced and did not understand the risk while drivers died every year and senna did understand that risk. someone may say he was a coward or pussy os romething but he was not. you need to have big big big balls to say things like he did and fight agains someone who is driven only by the money. his emotions were so strong that thay made impact on everyone around him and they still do change the world.
Ayrton: Most mesmerizing F1 driver of all time. Forget stats, other drivers may win more trophies, but there's dimension missing, while the brilliance and passion of the man still has not been surpassed, even 20 years after his death. Balestre : Corrupt bastard who deserved all the "former Nazi" accusations thrown at him. I can't remember exactly when he died, and can't be bothered to look it up. The lack of "In memory of Balestre" memorial events tells me I'm not the only one.
Hard to compare the only F1 Champion that died in a F1 (excluding Rindt because he died before being champion) and a president of FIA. No one knows the name of who was before Balestre, lot of people hated Balestre, lot of people hated Mosley (also known as the Nazi!) and lot of people are hating Todt ... always on the accusation that they are manipulating championship ...
you are just an other fool the was so brain washed by the guys that Praised Senna after he crashed and died! You forgot about how he run every body that tried to pass him off the track, Before he died he was the poor sport driver that made more contact with other cars than all Champions then he crashed and killed him self and he turns into the greatest ever, I don`t think so!
There really isnt a debate to have....Senna was the most talented, fastest driver of modern times.....yes he had his bad points like every other human being but my god he was fast.!!!
You are absolutly right. On the track he could do the most stupid and dangerous thing like he did on Prost at Suzuka in 1990. But here he is very smart and wise. People are not black and white.
PanicKernel2008 If you listened to what he told Jackie Stewart: if the driver see an opening and don't take that opportunity then they'll never truly be a racing driver. I never got to watch him race but what clips I have been able to see he made calculated maneuvers when the opening presented itself, some were flawless and some weren't. I mean how many drivers have raced that were perfect? I have never seen anyone hit wet spots while driving on slicks and control the car like Senna did at Donnington. To me a driver who can get the most out of a less than stellar car is a true champion. That's why I will never truly accept Lewis Hamilton in the same breath as Senna, because in the Toleman he nearly won Monaco and Lewis has not raced for a back marker. I have to say by far what clips I have seen the greatest example of what a racing driver is was and will ever be Ayrton Senna possessed and will probably not be seen again.
I agree but it is probably what killed him ... People tend to forgot that Prost also wanted to win every race when he started but changed his mind after few accident (he break his wrist). Senna never changed his mind, which is really nice for the show, and bring lot of admiration, but probably lead to his death. Everyone talk about Prost being a coward in Australian to not race under the rain because he was afraid "to crash and hurt someone else", but everyone forgot that Senna did 13 laps crashed into Brundle in a straight line at very high speed because he could not see him!
Actually for Monaco, Toleman said after the race that Senna had no chance to win the race. His car was apparently having mechanical issues, so if they would have done the whole race, he would not have finished it. Also the fastest driver was Stefan Bellof. That does not change the fact that he was very fast with it! But it does change the rumor that he could have won the race
Raphael J Senna was killed due to the mechanical problem of the steering and then obviously broken off part of his car hitting his head after the crash. and this is the sad thing about it. mechanical fault that no driver has a control over.
that is because in 89 Senna is at fault. Rules are : pilote in front got the way. Senna never succeed to get his car in front of Prost's. Other case : Schumacher vs Hill > Schumacher in Front, not at fault Schumacher vs Villeneuve > Villeneuve in Front, not at fault Prost vs Senna 90 > Prost in front .... FIA say they do not know ... what a BS ....
After this, Senna saved the freaking french´s Prost life after this decision was made.. Prost drove straight into the cones who had been replaced that same day by the tires which would have caused him flying and rolling around. Senna was truly a genuine human and a legend.
Balestre was a great man. What you see here proves that there was a dialogue between the pilots and the federation and that they listened to their opinions. When Max Mosley took over the leadership of the FIA in 1991 there was no more dialogue or safety briefing or any contact with drivers. It was not until the accidents at Imola and Monaco in 1994.
Yes, and it got in Prost's head when Senna did that, which was the whole idea. Senna always won at Monaco if his car stayed in one piece and wasn't uncompetitive--and in '92, he won in spite of the fact that it was. They were equally great drivers, in their own ways, and they were determined to win at all costs against the other, in their own ways. F1 just wasn't a big enough stage for both an Ayrton Senna and an Alain Prost at the same time.
@pretsas The driver meeting where Senna got upset and left was in Japan in 1990. This is Germany in 1991. The end result of this video is cut out for some reason but all the drivers put up their hands and Balestre says to the official to replace the tires with cones.
Senna never got along with any body that was a threat to win. He thought it was his right to be first ,and did what ever it took to finish there or crash.
@kouzouka It was 1992, when Senna rescued him. In Hockenheim 1991, the year of this video, Erik Comas had a bad crash in one of the chicanes, search for it and you will find.
@octaviocgsa Well Eric Comas crashed a few times but Senna saved his life at the Belgian GP in 1992. Comas never crashed at a Chicane, He crashed at Blanchimont corner at Spa
I always felt Balestre was a dirty old man..even looked like an Italian mafia boss although he was french. He always went with Prost in any dispute..even when it looked obvious to everybody
@myautomobilefunk He said thats what happened to me in Mexico...referring to a practice or qualifying crash when he hit the tires, and the car flipped and landed upside down.
The Whole Drivers briefing is beautiful back then....you see senna and ballestre having some heated discussions and then at the end every one laughing over a joke. It would be great to see today's briefing and see what the current drivers are like.
@fernandovogel I think you are missing the point. Prost never had to complain about the rule since it didn't make any difference. The purpose of the rule is correct as you cited- to award the driver with the best top results, regardless of potential technical failures. Regarding Ayrtons technical problems in detail - he was more aggressive on the car than Alain, which didn't always pay off for him. The both had the same material, but Ayrton had more technical problems - he had them for a reason.
Yeah, and whereas Senna had Prost as his team mate in 1988 (Prost was the most successful driver of all time with 28 wins at the end of 1987) and was already a two time champion and lost two titles in 1983 and 1984 by two points and half a point. Mansell beat Piquet in the same car. Piquet was already a two time champion. Hamilton beat Alonso in the same car in 2007. What champions or even race winners were Brundle, Verstappen, Herbert, Irvine, Barrichello and Massa before joining the team??
What was the end result of the vote, looked hard to see if it was passed or not, but there were cones for the race, ironically helping Alain Prost, had he not stalled it...
@TheColinChapman First of all, i would like to thank you for keeping the discussion at a high level. Lets go to the facts: in 88 Prost was leading the championship up to 10th round. He was leading because Senna crashed stupidly in Monaco (no car failure) and Senna had a gearbox problem AT THE START of the Brazilian GP (and was later disqualified for using the spare car). Or would you say that he pushed to hard during the warm up lap? (Continues)
@TheColinChapman You're right, Prost never needed the best finishes rule to win a WCT, as he never needed the FISA or Honda engineers favors over his teamate, i'd try to explain but it's useless to discuss with fanboys
@RGBSF I never saw Senna doing what Schumacher did to Hill, Villeneuve and Barichello. What Senna did to Prost was due to him being pissed at Balestre for changing the pole position (this is the case argued by schumacher fans against senna). Senna was indeed insane in taking the first corner but never a cheat as Schumacher was. That's the difference, Senna was passionate and insane, Schumacher is passionate and a cheat.
What was the end result of the vote, looked hard to see if it was passed or not, but there were cones for the race, ironically helping Alain Prost, had he not stalled it... Also why did Senna then storm out?
it looks like Hockenheim 91, Senna talks about an accident by Erik Comas in the 3rd chicane. and a third chicane we have only in Hockenheim and Monza, but in Monza Moreno was not anymore driving for Benetton (in the front row you can see the two Benetton drivers in yellow Piquet and Moreno. at a certain point Senna calls Balestre "Jean Marie"...never heard it before...you must know they weren in good relationship, nevertheless Senna gave him an original helmet in a more quiet moment.
(Sorry for my average english) I just say if he was very concerned about the safety in F1, several times he had a dangerous drive. Like anybody, he had his contradictions. And if Balestre was a ... he wasn't worst than Mosley.
@TheColinChapman My point is, Prost is a great pilot, great strategist. I prefer him over Schumacher (whose curse was not having someone to be measured up except for Hakkinen, to whom he lost twice). But I admire much more a pilot that is the pinnacle of speed, courage and aggressiveness than one that is known for conserving the tires and not breaking the car. Prost used the same weapons Lauda used against him in 84, after recognizing that Prost was faster: constancy
At late 80s Senna acused many times Balestre of manipulating the F-1. I believe that, specially after 89 championship, which was a SCANDAL. By the way... You dont need to be agressive. I understand that you probably an upset french guy, but chill. Argue like a decent human.
@TheColinChapman The true is, you missed the hole point. Prost never complained about the rule, even because it brought good luck to him. The "best scores" rule existed since 1950. And it was created with a single purpose: to award the fastest driver, not the one that had less mechanical failures. The rule worked as intended only in 64 and 88. In 88 Senna bested Prost constantly (to say the true, in 89 too), but had more mechanical problems. That`s it
Ever had that situation where you feel that something is really wrong at work, but your incompetent "superiors" won't see it and you're left tearing your hair out in frustration? Ayrton Senna probably felt that every time he talked to Balestre.
@fernandoweiss33 4 times you say? Maybe he could have taken more but that´s just pure speculation, Schumi would absolutely have won should he not have broken his leg at Silverstone but you cannot think like that it´s speculation yeah? Besides, if we going to be 100% fair here Senna slso drove straight into Prost at Suzuka in 1990 and by doing so denied Prost his championship that day. Senna was amazing as a driver but also a bully on the track and tested other drivers phsycologically, when others moved for him he knew from there on that they will always move when he come and the alternative wasa to chrash out. Very dangerous cause safety was not like today back then, he deliberatly put others in harms way and acted like a baby towards many others as well including journalist whom he held a grudge with if they wrote any negative stuff about him or even talked to or hailed other drivers. Sad to see people bring up jis great sides and refuse his negative sides, Senna was a really complex person and far from perfect. God was he great to watch though, amazing car control and ability to drive on the edge.
@TheColinChapman After the 10th round, both drivers failed to finish at the 12th round (Monza). At the 13th round (the infamous 88 Portuguease GP) Senna had problems with his fuel meter also from the OPENING LAPS. He managed to come 6th, but Prost retook the lead. In Spain (the 14th round) Senna had problems with the fuel meter AGAIN, from the start. And Prost won (Senna finished 4th). I cant imagine how a fuel meter can broke because of the drivers agressiveness...
@TheColinChapman What isnt true? In 85, 86 and 89 the rule existed, although you are true that it did not change the results in favour of "Alain" (are you intimate with him?). You forget to mention that In 83 and 84 Prost was the absolute favorit for the title and lost, and the rule at the time stated that all results counted (and the "best 11 scores" would make no difference because the cars were not reliable enough for that). So that rule did not helped him either...
Prost him it self said about Senna in his Monaco race 1988, while Senna put a overlap 1 and a half seconds... Prost said: "He try not to prove to be best but humiliate me!" So...Prost is still better for you??? HAHAHAHA REPEAT: "He try not to prove to be best but humiliate me!" Total pole positions 1-Michael Schumacher 68 2-Ayrton Senna 65 3-Sebastian Vettel 39 4-Jim Clark 33 5-Alain Prost 33
@fernandovogel this is simply not true. Prost won the 1985 title with 73 pts over Alboreto with 53, without the "best 11 scores" rule he would have won with 76 vs 53 anyway. And he won the 1986 Championship with 72 pts over Mansell with 70, without the rule he would have won with 74 vs 72. And he won the 1989 Titel with 76 pts over Senna with 60, without the rule he would have won with 81 vs 60. This rule did not help Alain winning anything.
@sargatanas88 nope he talks About the squalify of Suzuka 1989 when Prost make he crash, and after Senna go through Chicane, and for Balestre was a cutting, Then he asked the reason of Squalify! "Anyway i didn't get more fast!" And in next Grand Prix when Senna hits the Tires Barries Piquet said "Its Dangerous, A Driver can hurt head and stay blocked in sand like Senna" And All Agree. Then Senna said "Then, All are ok and why when Prost crashed me and i go through the Chichane we had a long discu
"no rivals!" Really? He raced; Mansell, Patrese, Prost and Senna in his first few years. Out scored (by nearly 3 times) a much more experienced teammate in Patrese in his second full season. Raced against competitive drivers such as; Barrichello, Berger, Coulthard and Montoya. Had probably the most contenders to his throne in Alonso, Coulthard, Häkkinen, Hill, Räikkönen and Villeneuve. More people challenged Schumacher than anyone else. His dynasty helped him become the best!
This video has been edited, Cutting Balestre saying 'My decision, is the best decision' Is public domain that he never like Senna at all, maybe because he is not french, whats what Ali G says!
@Guireles2007 Yes Ecclestone simply cares about F1 as a business only. This is shown by his choice to have races in countries like South Korea with the track surrounded by absolutely nothing only because their government can afford to pay a ludicrous fee. Meanwhile, the race in Melbourne is in jeopardy because bernie negotiates so ruthlessly despite what a fantastic event it is. Get somebody who cares about racing and motor sport fans...
@Shogo5000 Up to 1988, the best scores rule ALWAYS existed in F1, except from 1981 to 1984. Prost won three of his four titles with this "stupid" rule. Senna won just one out of his three. In 1988 it was one rare time when this rule was effective (the other time was 1964) and changed the champion, awarding the BEST pilot, not only the most regular or luckiest.
So how come he doesn't transform the Mercedes team into a competetive force after three years of development and a many of the key personel he enjoyed from his Ferrari days, including Ross Brawn? Schumacher enjoyed a car advantage and team mate advantage the likes of Senna, Prost, Stewart, Clark and Lauda never saw. In 2010-2012 he hardly matches Nico Rosberg who the jury is still out on as to how good he really is. Jack Brabham was nearly champion for the 4'th time in 1970 aged 44...
Deep respect to Senna. He's critical.and intelligent. Very analytical.
Ayrton Senna cared a lot more about safety than Balestre. And of course he did, it was his life after all that was at risk. Balestre needed a good kick up the arse. Which Ayrton very politely gave him.
That's ironic considering he had no problem with putting other drivers lives at risk whenever he wanted to.
He wanted the tracks to be safer for that reason I bet.
Senna would do anything as long as it benefitted him.
@@jamesbraun9842 not always!!
Mika sitting right next to Senna. He still looks the same today. :)

Paulie no 1969
even better.
Mansell always agreed with Senna. omg
Because Senna was right and Mansell knew that. There's nothing special here, two legendary and good drivers.
He also agrees when Senna calls Prost a coward, you can find the video in youtube 😅
4:02 When Senna talks, everyone stops and listens (except for Balestre)
Prost got the nickname the "Professor" but Senna was very smart. Shame that he is gone....

Politics prevented Ayrton from winning at least 2 WC
Why is this cut to make balestre look good? The curuption was endless those days and Balestre was never brought to justice. #senna
Shane Kearns
Senna was never brought to justice for the deliberate and dangerous collision.
Neither was Prost in 89
that is true
What is true is Senna tried to cheat in 1989, and he failed, he was allowed to get away with cheating in 1990.
that is because in 89 Senna is at fault.
Rules are : pilote in front got the way. Senna never succeed to get his car in front of Prost's.

I wish they would release more of these drivers briefings. I heard senna would argue in nearly every meeting.
He Was always controversial because he was running other Cars off the track at a regular pace! Senna was fast but Far from a good driver !
Yes man!
Mylan Miller shut the hell up, you’re giving the same answer/comment everywhere.

You must be French, Balestre was a disastrous leader, the “only” driver he cared about was Prost!!
This arguement was in the SENNA Film :)
Is that young Mika Häkkinen at Sennas side?
Yes, and it got in Prost's head when Senna did that, which was the whole idea. Senna always won at Monaco if his car stayed in one piece and wasn't uncompetitive--and in '92, he won in spite of the fact that it was. Yes thats young Mika.
didn't seem paying much attention until senna said: let me finish!

Senna apparently never got on with anyone French.
Yet he saved Comas' life in many ways and they became / remained friends.

well he was nice to the lesser succesfull ones
He went out of his car during a hotlap because someone had an accident.
Wouldn't say that many other drivers would have done so
What was the end result of the vote, looked hard to see if it was passed or not, but there were cones for the race, ironically helping Alain Prost, had he not stalled it...
And if Balestre was a ... he wasn't worst than Mosley.
pause at 1 50 wat a great shot of senna and mika
@TheColinChapman My point is, Prost is a great pilot, great strategist. I prefer him over Schumacher (whose curse was not having someone to be measured up except for Hakkinen, to whom he lost twice). But I admire much more a pilot that is the pinnacle of speed, courage and aggressiveness than one that is known for conserving the tires and not breaking the car. Prost used the same weapons Lauda used against him in 84, after recognizing that Prost was faster: constancy
this part is included in movie of 'Senna'
Mika & Eddie like a boss
is that a young Mika Hakkinen sitting next to Ayrton?
@ccanaves kool, now i know exactly what he was talking about... thnx for the link
At late 80s Senna acused many times Balestre of manipulating the F-1. I believe that, specially after 89 championship, which was a SCANDAL.
By the way... You dont need to be agressive. I understand that you probably an upset french guy, but chill. Argue like a decent human.
Won 4 because of Balestre mafia.
Balestre - the thief that Robbed Senna out of the 89 Championship.
That`s it
@Gioagla It's the contrary. They all voted IN FAVOR of Senna's proposal for the change on the track.
is that Hakkinen next to him?
Yes
Ever had that situation where you feel that something is really wrong at work, but your incompetent "superiors" won't see it and you're left tearing your hair out in frustration? Ayrton Senna probably felt that every time he talked to Balestre.
@fernandoweiss33
4 times you say?
Nobody is denying what he did on the race track.
Germany for sure, Senna is referring to the nasty crash Erik Comas had this weekend.
It's hockenheim 1991 for sure- Eddie Jordan & Trevor Foster are next to Senna
Id Love too see this these days..
If only he had been listened to
That's Mika Hakkinen next to Ayrton so it's either 91' or 92'
Senna x Balestre was a heck of rivarly
Prost him it self said about Senna in his Monaco race 1988, while Senna put a overlap 1 and a half seconds...
Prost said: "He try not to prove to be best but humiliate me!"
So...Prost is still better for you???
HAHAHAHA
REPEAT:
"He try not to prove to be best but humiliate me!"
Total pole positions
1-Michael Schumacher 68
2-Ayrton Senna 65
3-Sebastian Vettel 39
4-Jim Clark 33
5-Alain Prost 33
Diego Hashimoto Schumacher cheats In many ways. Gas charges, tires misteriously better for Ferrari, and more
Hernan Lozano get over yourself. Just bs accusations
Prost 4 titles senna 3
Shumy 7
Alan Lantz schumcheater only 68 pole and 7 championships in 20 years? A joke compare to Senna stats
@Guireles2007 A rich former F1 driver... like Prost or Shumy (when he retires...) should take the job, if they have the time or patience.
@octaviocgsa Yes I know, I'm Just saying Spa 92 is where he saved his life
This video has been edited, Cutting Balestre saying 'My decision, is the best decision'
Is public domain that he never like Senna at all, maybe because he is not french, whats what Ali G says!
Eddie Jordan's look is priceless... :-)))
Who was the driver that raised his hand?
If it's the driver at 3:58 Andrea de Cesaris
Ellemerob No, I meant 4:19
Nelson Piquet
Who’s here after watching the senna sneak peak
👇🏻
Oh, it lacks the "Best decision is my decision" part...
@vinceforobama yeh and it looks a bit like eddie jordan on his other side.
I'd guess this is Hockenheim 1991.
99% of these comments are irrelevant to this video...period..to the other 1% this video is so original and fresh it's just amazing..period!
