FYI: I created an "extendable pull-out vent" for these heaters! You can buy it on my site sevenosavage.com.
I love how happy you get with every success😍😍😍🙃🙃
You da man! That made my install so much easier, thank you.
I just wanted to say thank you, I just finished my Espar install a few days ago and this was playing in the background that whole day! Wouldn't have been able to do it as quickly or as confidently without this video, thanks man.
So stoked to hear this! Thanks Scott.
Great video
Great video just a note I think it would better if you had mount the exhaust away from the door side since the hot air rises and every time you open the door the fumes might just come in just a thought
Great job on the install! Next time try using a stepper bit like a Hilti, Greenlee, or Klein bit. Drills through metal way easier than a holesaw bit. Ive seen a lot of videos and people use either a spade bit or holesaw bit. Stepper bits make life easy drilling through metal.
What size for these hoses?
Great video and I love these heaters. But an FYI- your heater has a heat exchanger shut down temp of 235C and mine regularly operates at 185C so your sealant may not hold up. Permatex also makes a red HIGH TEMP version and also a "fire proof" silicone that might be better suited to this app.
Nicely done! The only suggestion for next time is to ensure your exhaust doesn't come out near a door. Simply so when the door is open, and your heater is on you won't get fumes inside.
I would recommend keeping your door closed if you're trying to heat up the van. I've heard it helps tremendously.
@@dylanandrews8057 Haha as long as you never want to enter/exit the vehicle that's a great plan.
@@PureGlide There are the other TWO front doors if you're that concerned. A few seconds of possible contamination doesn't seem like an issue though. Plus, the exhaust pipes are designed for a certain length and this design and placement necessitates its location. Not much to be done.
@@dylanandrews8057 or put it on the other side..
@@NimblePerspective Per the manual, 6' is max exhaust length, and it's pretty tough to route that staying away from cables and what not staying under that. Probably doable! Especially if you added a larger muffler to the part past 6'
Great video again! Just a suggestion... maybe next time the audio dies just do a voice over and don’t tell anyone ;)
Good idea!
The audio wasn't too bad in that one part, it was just a little distracting.
Please stand still when doing segments to camera. Your intake air NEVER goes inside the van, it fuels combustion and goes outside through the exhaust. The air that is being heated goes in the other end of the heater to your warm air output.
If you watch the video, the air intake outside the van fits onto one of the ports that go through the floor. Which you can't mess up. It's pretty self explanatory.
Great info! Thanks for posting
Nice install but I see some issues.the exhaust needs to point down further to let out condensation and also the rubber bracket you've used for the exhaust will melt.
I was about to note the muffler issue too.
Audio was fine. I was expecting to not understand anything. No worries.
Thanks for the detailed video! :)
So Helpful ! and so Savage -- Thanks!
🤙
You didn't cover the installation of the temperature sensor-- did you install ?
I don't see the installation guide link. You are way 2hard on YourSelf. The audio was not super horrible and definitely didn't distract Me from listening normally to the video. Thankhz so much for sharing all Your van build installs. They are very useful👍🏾. Wholeness n Essence of Love ((-;
Thanks a lot. Side note: I didn’t notice a difference in your voice. You sounds like that.
Thanks for the video. Just a sugestion to put some filter/mesh at the end of the 2 hoses/pipes going under the van to avoid any tinny animal crolling in.
Awesome video, so nice you did this for the newer S2D2 heater. Can you please post the link to the manual you found? Thank you!!
yes please like you said you would in the vid thx 🙏🏽
Curious about the rubberized hose clamps. Wouldn’t they melt on the exhaust hose since it gets quite hot?
Hey! Can you drop a comment on what self tapping screws you used? I'm having trouble finding some that will work for my heater. Thanks!
Your video is the best at showing how to install this heater. You should see if the company wants to buy or pay u for a video. It could be packed in every box of Espar- heater along with manuel. If I was the company president of Espar heater I would send a professional camera crew out with a new van to make a new video of you installing a Espar heater.
They should pay u!. U do a awesome job of explaining. Love it.
After seeing u install heater I believe I can install one on my van. I was afraid before . Thanks.
Nice install, I guess 2 things though, your fuel tap off pipework looks a little temporary,(dangling down loose etc). Personally I would have taken air intake in different direction to exhaust and muffler and pipe pointing downwards. Routing exhaust to rear of van. First time you take the van offroad you will be lucky to not shear those pipes off if left under sills .
I’m sure you found out by now that exhaust gets way to hot for those rubber clamps. They must be melted up by now?
i was curious about that myself
Great job !
Just a detail, wouldn’t be even more quiet if the muffler was closer to the heater ? It seems that the closer the better...
Love your channel !
Over all a good job... two small items, 1. The more loops in the hot air tube, the more volume and intensity of air you loose. 2. The more important issue, the location of the exhaust tube is just below the passenger side sliding door. The exhaust tube ejects some a smell, but more problematic, carbon dioxide, the latter a orderless poison gas. Some exhaust may come thru your door seal, or when door is open, directly into living space.
One of the better video's I have seen.
and the muffler is installed arse up and wont drain condensation like that, that is what the drip hole is for ...
Bracket with RUBBER insert to reduce VIBRATION....seems like a BAD idea.
Won't HOT EXHAUST "melt" the RUBBER?
Why not use a Stainless Steel clamp with a piece of ASBESTOS inside?
Seven, thank you so much for the coupon code. It still works and is good for 60 bucks off. YAY.
Awesome 🤙
Can you please refer me to a good, reasonable source for an electrical system for my van? I have a 2013, 144 sprinter. I want a 200 to 400 amp hour system with 2- 200watt panels (it’s all I have room for).
Hello, did you mount those 2 fuses underneath the passenger seat?
in truth I've been watching your videos the last two days and saw that you cut your hand.
I pity me that I did not foresee your injury.

I am just curious: why bring the exhaust pipe close to the side entry door? I would have brought the exhaust pipe to to the other side of the van and the intake close to the entrance door.
The challenge with the exhaust hose is how much back pressure the S2 needs to operate smoothly. Unfortunately that’s not enough to cross the van and go out the other side.
Well, I just noticed that someone else wrote the same kind of comment. The point is to have a long exhaust pipe to cross the width of the van to bring the fumes on the other side of the entry door.
I am pointing that fact because I have to do the same kind of installation with a Propex Heater on my travel trailer built project.
Notwithstanding that point, this is a great video that will help a ton of people!
Did you read a word or schematic from the manual, or threw it away immediately? XD Anyhow, it works well. Might want to point the exhaust output to the ground so it doesn't venturi its while driving the van.
Great job again Seven ! Can you post the product link for the white fuel hose size adapter you got at the auto store?? Thanks !!
Yes, fleeing fires right now and can’t find the part online so next time I’m near an Orileys I’ll grab the product name
Did the rubberized clamps on the exhaust hose over-heat and melt or smoke?
I would not recommend running the exhaust directly to the porch/ slider door. Run it to the opposite side, away from where you hang out.
did you have to lower the fuel tank of your sprinter or the auxiliary line was already out?
Hi!! Do you have a video of the installation tank at the driver side??? Thanks!!! Sorry my english
Thanks for posting such an in-depth and detailed video! My wife and I live in Chico, CA and are in the process of building out a new Ford Transit we bought 2 months ago. You’ve been a real help with install ideas and the whole process in general. Can’t wait to get our build at least part way finished so we can start taking her on epic mountain bike and snowboard trips! 🤘🏻
Awesome Mike! Hopefully this heater install gets you guys to the mountains :)
Hey Mike, I also have a Transit too, I'm getting ready to start my Espar install, I've got the adapter for the auxiliary fuel port. Any advise you can give me about dripping the gas tank and connecting the adapter to the tank? Also, why not just run one size fuel line from the tank to the pump? It seems you go from a big hose to a small hose back to a big hose? Am I missing something? Thanks for your help and great video 7!
@@bjbhehir I’m about to do the same in my Transit. Any issues you’ve run into so far?
@@stu32Grimson no issues yet. This is a very good video to watch, ruclips.net/video/VSuD8jGAS5w/видео.html
If you're wiring this to a Blue Sea fuse block, why do you need the small fuse holder?
Hello. I've been following your van build and this was a really nice video. I'm from a tropical country and so I've no idea about colder climate. Been researching about it as I want to travel to colder countries.
Is the espar heater enough to heat that space abundantly, even in Sub zero temperatures? My van might be slightly bigger than this, along the lines of sprinter 170, but a little smaller. Would one heater be enough to keep it warm in a proper winter? What are your thoughts. Thanks!
Thanks for posting. It helped me out a lot today. I appreciate the details. I’m still trying to decide on which side to run the exhaust. Leaning towards the drivers side. Can’t wait to see your van tour. Take Care
So stoked to hear this 🤙
Also, drivers side is 👌
Great content.
Curious how you got the savage name? You come off as a calm person in the videos, but I assume you are savage out and about. Or savage van outfitter.
It’s an old English surname
fantastic job of how not to route an exhaust. when on the exhaust fumes are going to go straight into the van if door has any openings what so ever. other than that a great video
can you do or send me thoughts on the controller ( i have the same controller and want to sent it for x temp while awake and y temp for sleep then x again
thx
I would not call it quiet. It's sounds small yet engine until the room is up to temperature in the van ^^
Is the fuel pump need to be installed close to the diesel fuel tank? Or can it be installed closer to the heater instead?
What a Dynomite video! Although I would have to watch the video 10 more times and take notes - I honestly believe that I could install this myself. Tho it may take me a month or 2... hehe. Thank You Seven. Oh - and the diesel-powered heaters need some kind of yearly maintenance - I wonder what that entails... Warmest regards Jennie
Nice videos! At around 24:12 you show a shot of the installed pump. It appears the wrong way around. The D2 installation instructions shows the electrical contacts on the output side (The high side) of the pump. Your vid shows the contact on the tank side (Low side). Did you fix this later? Installing my heater right now, so this made me do a double take and now I am questioning my self :-)
Page 25 BTW: www.butlertechnik.com/downloads/Eberspacher_Airtronic_D2_Technical_Manual.pdf
Curious about this as well. Perhaps this is the difference between models? Would be strange to change the direction from model to model but...
the muffler needs to be turned down, it has a hole for condensation to escape from
What color was the line to the diesel tank? Im having a hard time locating mine? Is there a pic?
Thank you Alex, you’re a “Rock Star” with these excellent videos. I appreciate them.
Could you link to the S2 D2 manual? Thanks!
Thanks for sharing the details. Any ideas on if the regular gas version is similar install and similar six outlet from ford? I’m working up the courage to start converting my 2017 transit and your videos def help👊
I also have a Transit too, I'm getting ready to start my Espar install, I've got the adapter for the auxiliary fuel port. Any advise you can give me about dripping the gas tank and connecting the adapter to the tank? Also, why not just run one size fuel line from the tank to the pump? I may be losing my mind, and I'm assuming this all worked out, but it appears you are installing the pump in reverse of the manual I am working from. My manual show the port that feeds the heater is on the same side as the DC connector. You are connecting the DC connector side port to the fuel tank? Is that right? does it work in either direction. I have an H1 Error code P000223, cant seem to clear in either direction
You are right!!! It was in reverse in this video
watch RUclipsr John McK 47 when installing a diesel heater, love your build videos, good quality info.
John McK 47 is THE diesel air heater expert.
What size is the wire loom that covers the Diesel fuel line?
fiberglass sleeve on amazon not sure what thickness… need to measure
Totally ignorant to electrical so I have to ask the dumb question: how did you know to install 25 amp fuse at fuse block? Is it just protecting the other two fuses?
Mainly just because instructions said to do so for this particular device
Yep, Seven, you've got ghosts. Totally picking up audio from the netherworld.
Would you have been able to mount the exhaust on the opposite side of the van to prevent the risk of sucking fumes through your sliding door?
If you have a cabinet to mount it in, yes... but there’s no room under the drivers side seat
I mean, the exhaust pipe itself. Could it have reached the other side? I’m looking at converting a van myself and will be installing the same heater.
Chris Van Duin I would highly suggest to route it to the other side. Having the exhaust directly under the main door is not the greatest idea. It also is right where you are gonna sit to enjoy your view on a chilly evening sucking fumes while your heater is heating up your van for a cozy night.
When removing the seat, the wiring harness needs to be disconnected. BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE WIRES, DISCONNECT THE HOUSE BATTERY. If you forget this step, an SRS malfunction code will plague your existence - until you pay $130 to a dealership to get it cleared. Speaking from my experience with a 2019 Sprinter...
Yep, want to clarify it's disconnecting the car battery though (not the house battery). With 2019 sprinters, even if the ignition is off, it still throws codes when disconnecting seat harnesses.
@@seven_o_savage Good clarification! That's totally what I meant
I did NOT disconnect the van battery and I got the code.
just stay warm with the riot fires all around you
Thank you
Just installed the S2 in my new 144 build . Im just over the hill in Cobb .
Fired up on the sixth restart and works great !!!! Your video’s very helpful !!
One of the best installs I have seen
Here is the link to the installation document, I think that was in reference.

It's for the D2, I didn't find one for the S2, and it's only in german, joy.
Love your videos and the attention to detail is amazing ! That heater will be the best thing you ever buy for your van conversion
Why wouldn't you install the heater externally, under the van? Keeps it quiet, saves space, less ports through the cabin (exhaust circuit stays outside the van), shorter fuel run, and super quiet? I've never understood why people mount these heaters inside? Just curious.
They are not recommended to be installed where there is exposure to the elements. Probably wouldn’t hold up to snow/water/dirt underneath the van.
@@seven_o_savage ahhh...ok. I've used the planar 2d before, and they explicitly say outside is fine, so I assumed it was similar for the other brands. I'm pretty sure VW mounts the espar from the factory under the van, but they do put them in a little metal box to keep the elements out.
Awesome video and channel btw... Appreciate your attention to detail and awesome attitude 👍 👍 👍
FPV Flowtastic I've had one on the outside of my VW T5 for five years now, no problems with all the benefits you mention.
@@mooskamoo have mine in a box underneath as well. No problem at all, and super quiet 🤫. Not to mention, free space inside 🍻🤣
About the hair... Go with a man bun.
I was more worried about the wasp creeping up on you, than the bad audiopart :-) Perhaps it made the bad audio!! Whuuut? ;-)
Thanx for the videos. Audio problem? I could barely notice. And probably wouldn’t notice have you not mentioned. No reason for you to mention, much less to apologize. We thank you for your videos.
Very thorough. Thank you!
I would paint any are brackets underneath Vans with a rust protecting paint that only body shops use. Then I would seal it with under sealant black in color. It does come in can spay or gallon cans. Must have paint tinner to clean or just use foam sponge brushes that will toss in garbage. Remember to put a plastic bag on can before putting lid back on ; or u will never b able to open your gallon can. Turpentine cleans the tip of the spray can. This stuff will stay on your skin for a week. Use gloves.
Can you advise which fuel line quick connect you used. I don’t see in product list. Thanks I’m installing Espar heater.
The rubber clamps don’t melt? That exhaust pipe gets pretty hot.
The shadow realm.. HAHHAHHAAAA
Rich poseurs that don't do it full time buy the heater that you got the real people that live full-time in Vans and RVs save money and they buy the Chinese ones that work just fine spending your money like that you'll be back in your parents basement no time son
Thanks mate good vid. 👍
Seven so what are those extra wires with the branch shared with the controller for. Are they for the high altitude sensor which you are not using? Thanks for you the detailed video.
Great job nice install, been enjoying your videos
I was wondering why the intake hose is sucking cold air ? i mean it's should be better if intake was installed inside sucking pre-warmed air instead of very cold winter air under truck ? what you think guys
my only thing is that I have seen videos of the muffler being installed at a different angle and then also if you did decide to go somewhere with lots of cold weather but wanted to enjoy some time with the door open for a few minutes for a photo or maybe just loading something in and out, you would have the fumes inside. might have been better to get an extension and run it out after the sliding door.
Did you kit come with the Quick connect adapter for your fuel line? Or did you have to purchase it separately, if so do you know the size. Just got my kit, and unfortunately there is no adapter in it....
My EasyStart Pro stopped communicating w/ my diesel heater. I've got power to the controller but nothing happens when I try and turn on the heat or the fan. Any help would be greatly appreciated
"...the combustion air intake hose....is going to get combusted and turning into hot air..." and becoming the output of the diesel heater. Nope. the combustion air intake hose mixes with the diesel fuel and becomes the exhaust. The air intake at the end of the heater is what gets heated. The way you described it, sounds like carbon monoxide will enter the cabin!
The slide backbroad to go under auto cost $30 at sears. That is what I paid. I have seen them at flea market for less $30 USA.
The only problem with the heater being placed there is that it doesn't heat up under bed and keep batteries, water lines, tanks, etc warm in winter 0 degrees Fahrenheit. Most people place heater in that location for convenience of space. It also doesn't allow one to drop the height of passenger seat. Or it doesn't allow for air ride seat. Air ride seats are most comfortable for trips longer than 3 hours.
I tie wrapped my tubes and wires every few inches as while driving wind will move stuff pretty good and chaffing will occur. Good vid.
I follow your instructions and I’m done, the heater works perfectly and I’m old and a lady. It took me twice as long tho😅
You didn't explain correctly where the fresh air sucked in through the lower left hose goes. That hot air is never mixed with the hot air that goes into the living quarter. It goes into the burn chamber only and exits out the exhaust pipe.
This is a good informational video. Well done… but Espar has updated the electrical so make sure you cross reference more current videos as connections have changed.
Have you had any overheating problems with having the heat tube loop around above the heater? I'm currently troubleshooting my heater overheating and I think it is because the tube loops around like yours above the heater and causes it to get hotter than it should.
Hi Seven, My Easystart shows (H1 fuel supply or pump) and it will not start. Do you have any idea?
I really hope that battery was disconnected during the electrical install...
Watches farther along: oh good... lol
Hi! I think when people say it is cold out here , he should say the temperature. It sound better. U lead people into temperature cold but do not tell us temperature.
cold??…………………………COLD?? In CALIFORNIA? ………………really🤔🤷🏼♂️
Ever been to Tahoe? Just about seen hour from Sacramento is a spot that typically gets the most s snow in the country! A few years ago Squaw Valley got about 750 inches!
@@bjbhehir Agreed - just search for the "Donner Party!" (not your typical PARTY...)
rubber mounts will melt under the heat...also magnetic hex drivers shouldnt be a thing as stainless screws would be a must under the van
hey ..ok I am trying to decide Esbar S2 or D2 ? P;lanar ? Webasto ? Chineese ?? Metal "breadbox" for Esbar ?
Now, that sounds like a heater worth buying.
Thanks for sharing 👌 👍
Fantastic video! Making our upcoming heater instal a lot less daunting. Thanks!!!!
