No one mentioned yet that the screws for the horn and start switches housing are both different sizes one on the front is longer that the other, are you a certified motorcycle mechanic or just a hobby mechanic?
Technically no, If you skip to 14:30 around there I think you will see one looks different from the other. The cables typically have the same ends where they meet at the carb, but not the same where they go into the housing on the handlebars and onto the throttle grip tube. One of them usually the pull has an adjuster on it as you can see around 14:30. I'm assuming you are putting apes on it or something if you are going for oversized cables. If you have the correct length for each cable you might be able to make it work, but only if both cables had adjusters up top on both (which pull cables usually do). If both cables didn't have adjusters up top you might have difficulty getting the throttle cable adjustment how you need it by only using the adjusters at the carb end.Typically aftermarket companies for handlebars will sell custom oversized push and pull cables. If you are having difficulty in finding them I would contact the company that makes the handlebars. If you are using custom bars or something I suppose you can try using two pull cables though its not recommended, its most likely possible. I would just exhaust every effort to find push and pull cables first before you try that.
Sorry I've been busy editing lately. After reading your last comment I'm left with more questions then answers, I wish I could see the bike in person. White smoke often indicates a head gasket leak in a car and sometimes a motorcycle, but that wouldn't make sense to me if the bike is running and just not idling. I'm not sure how the fuel tank emptied so fast, but it sounds like a fuel leak or carb issue to me at this point. Most carbs have an idle air control valve that balances the air to fuel mixture. It's factory set, but if someone tweaked it or rejetted the carb, or changed out the exhaust pipes that can mess with the idle. Even that I don't suspect would stop it from idling entirely. This might sound dumb or insulting and I don't mean it to, but is it possible the idle set screw got moved at all? There is usually a spring loaded screw that sets the idle which is touching the drum where the cables connect. If that is backed off too much there won't be an idle, try turning that up maybe? I would check that first. If the carb is clean you could check the fuel pump (if it has one), I know the vt1100's do. The bike in the video doesnt like to start below 50 degree's regardless of choke because the fuel pump is sluggish and the carb is improperly jetted for the drag pipes on it. There are some days they can't get it to start at all simply because of that. I'd check the carb out more and verify the settings are good and its clean as a whistle first. Sometimes the slider or needle jets can get hung up if they are dirty. Also check the bottom float in the carb, and the upper diaphragm for pin holes. If it worked fine before, there is no reason it shouldn't work now.
Hope is not lost! There is just probably one little thing hanging it up if it worked before. Sorry I can't be more of help, its difficult to visualize what could be happening without looking at the bike myself.
Sorry I didn't explain myself thoroughly as I was trying to be brief and to the point. I would've bored you with all of the details. The white smoke was more a vapor than actual smoke and it occurred during the time the bike was not running, i.e. when I was attempting to start it and it would not start. Also in reference to the gas tank emptying - I noticed it the following day. It broke at night, I had it towed home and did not look at it until the following day. So we're talking abt a period of 12 hours or so between the initial break down and when I looked at it the following day.
By no means is your question dumb or demeaning. Possibilities are everywhere! And when I replace the carburetor I will definitely check that out. But there is something I would like to call to your attention: If you can log on to www.hondapartshouse.com/oemparts. click Honda parts & go to motorcycle parts - click 2007 parts - click VT750C AC - click carburetor. Blow it up and look at #13. As you can see there is a nut (plastic) that connects the choke cable to the carb. A piece of that plastic sleeve is broken off and I am wondering whether that could contribute to the problems with gas flow (lean or rich).
I am aware of the difficulties involved in trying to solve mechanical problems without hands on experience. I think it would be total wishful thinking to expect as much. The fact that you take time to discuss issues exceeds any reasonable expectations a person can have. You have set me on a course of actions in terms of steps to take and hopefully these issues can be resolved with a basic approach. Otherwise, god forbid, I will need a mechanic.
Not meant to be fun, I structure most of my content around beginners who have little information. Its not everyone's cup of tea I realize that, most are looking for a quick how to. My intention is to create videos that have content for someone new to working on a motorcycle, and more experienced people can skip around to find info they need.
You are right, Wasn't quite clear on that sorry. If you haven't already done it, simply unscrew the cables from the housing on the handlebar. Then unscrew the housing with the two screw underneath (removing it from the handlebars). There is a plastic throttle grip tube underneath that just comes out of the housings and you will see how the cables can be disconnected from the plastic tube by hand. The tube just sits in a channel in the housing. One of the more important pieces on information I should have done more on in the video, and less on other things. Thanks for the feedback.
Thanks helped a lot with my first bike
This was the lest helpful guild I've come across
Great vid. What kind of seat is that? Looking for a replacement for my 2000 spirit
Why drain the fuel ? I just removed mine with gas in it . As long as petcock works it should be fine?
How do you adjust
Thanks man, your vdieo helped me out
Where did u get that heel toe shift lever at ?
What front rim did you put on that?

hey were the throttle cables push and pull the same? i can only find pull cables oversized not push. so i was wondering if i could use two pull cables

Thank you, but you are terrible at this video thing. You convinced me to go to repair shop.
my cables are binding when i turn the bike to the right I think the last guy routed them wrong thanks for the vid
Is your silence indicative of the hopelessness of my situation? Is there no course of action you can suggest?

Ya dont have to drain the gas tank! Just turn the reserve switch to off! All the way up!
For Christ's sake man lose the tassels
you should of specicified on what one cable works for and whats the other for, i know they're named "cables" , lol
useful information with a great deal of useless information makes for a boring presentation

apologies, but the one thing I needed to know you did not elaborate on: how to disconnect the top cables from the throttle grip housing.

Nevertheless, I apologize for the initial comment. Thanks for the info!
No need to apologize, still trying to learn the whole video creation and youtube thing. Feedback is appreciated. Thanks for watching!
