Ian's mother was born Scottish father was English, Ian was born in the UK but spent the biggest majority of childhood in Ontario. Where he spent time learning about the Southern tribes in Ontario.
Went to a Viper Room event back in 2000. $16 drinks and John Taylor in the main room, lol. Everyone got all excited about the "VIP room", which was empty, aside from 2 people at the small bar. I only saw their backs but said, "dude thinks he's Ian Astbury", and he turned around, lol. Yep, he was Ian Astbury. My friend asked how I recognized him from behind. The man has a style you just know when you see it. Funny moment, though. Wish he'd been playing that night instead. He was just chilling. Overpriced drinks and nothing else special about that night. Just this badass.
Finally, a really great video of AMERICAN HORSE. Thank you, great editing; would love to see these concerts posted but never found them. This was some of Billy's best guitar work. The riffs and licks were haunting forever in your head if you're a Cult fan. Thanks again!!
Saw the cult in 89 sonic temple open for metallica and they blew my mind. Saw them come back the next year and they were headlining for the Sonic Temple tour
I have been to hundreds of concerts, since 1980 and I can honestly say that when I saw the cult open for Metallica sonic temple tour I was blown away. It's my favorite concert to this day . Metallica who?
We thought The Doors were great and they were, but along comes Ian and company, and wow..... No words for the perfection of this song and many, many more Cult tunes!
I’ve listened to R&R all my life and I’m 66 , Billy Duffy is is Top 10 best guitarists ever, I also play guitar so I kind of know a little bit of what I’m talking about he’s phenomenal
First EVER gig as a kid! Big brother took me to see them at the NEC. Couldn’t wait for those opening chords of American Horse. I must have been about 12 - wow
Well, for a bunch of English guys, they really do honor America in a completely unique way....I'm glad they love us....We love you to!!....

They ❤ the AMERICAN Indians... not the pretend america...
They ❤ the AMERICAN Indians not the pretend america...
For some reason, they were bigger in the States than they were in the UK. Similar to Def Leppard
Criminally under rated, the CULT is one of the truly great bands of the 80's! Sonic Temple and LOVE are fantastic albums!

Saw them live in Belfast in the late 90's they ROCK! Sonic temple must be one of the best heavy rock albums made...
