It's been almost three months since my first ride on the my 2018 Trek Roscoe 8!

Let me know what you think of your Trek Roscoe 8 so far, and what you plan on upgrading in the comments section!
Thanks everyone for liking & subscribing! See you on the trails!
Thank you for posting so many videos about this bike, I starting biking 3 years ago and didnt know what to get so I bought a trek 820. Now as I have really gotten into trail riding I am in the market for a much better bike. The roscoe 8 caught my eye and after watching all your vids you have me sold. I’m currently setting money aside to purchase the new bike while getting rid of my old one and can’t wait to get it on the trail and make upgrades of my own.
Awesome! Good luck! Although I've upgraded my Roscoe, I still think it's an excellent value stock!
The Roscoe 8, is top 5 hottest +bike! I waited two months for mine.... they can’t keep them in stock. Great bike
JAMR0CK15 Damn I’m so pumped! I just gotta save up for it.
As I've commented in another section, I definitely recommend the Roscoe-8 = one of the best values out there. Best to learn or rekindle your MTB skills on a hard tail. My Roscoe-8 has been perfect for me me after many years on a Giant hybrid, which I still own. I have no complaints with Treks engineering and component selection for the $.
I like your videos and appreciate the review of the Roscoe 8 I have the Roscoe 8 and love this bike. I upgraded the grips to double lock, seat (Bontrager Montrose Comp), pedals (Shimano Saint Flat pedals), bars (Kore 780mm W/35mm Rise), and stem (Uno 50mm with 10 degree rise). I thought about the fork, but the stock fork is fine for now. This bike has taken everything I have thrown at it and asked for more. Fortunately my NX set up has always shifted perfectly, but my son recently purchased a Roscoe 8 and it shifts hard especially in the bottom 4 gears. Hopefully the shop can tune it out.
I have ridden the 2018 roscoe 8 for a year now. I have ridden full suspension bikes and find this bike more fun. It is very forgiving and just bombs the downhills it tracks very well and rolls over anything in its way. Keeps up full suspension bikes down hill and beats them up hill. Havnt had an issue with the nx drive train and havnt even bottomed out the shock yet and i jump off what ever is on the trail. Only upgrade i would do is probably the brakes as on steep rough down hills occasionally get a bit of brake fade but only when i have been on the brakes for a bit. Love the bike and dont really plan on doing any upgrades. I run the stock tyres at 21psi rear and 23psi front and dont have any traction issues. If i was riding in the wet i would drop to 20 and 18 psi but still a heap of traction at 21/23psi in the wet.
Sick upgrades!!
Just bought Roscoe. Changed from Kross Moon Z1 full. Trek is really good climber as U said. Still running stock model. Planing upgrade brakes. RS Judy is ok if it's good tuned for rider weight. Thanks for Your videos, and see You on trail (in Poland btw 😃).
Haha if I had the funds for upgrades still 1. XT brakes 2.Build myself a new rear wheel with a boost DT Swiss 350 hub converted to QR also with an XD driver so I can run a 10t. 3. Sram GX Eagle 4.Fox 34 Step Cast 120mm fork. As far as upgrades I've actually done. 1. Race Face Chester's 2. Ergon GA2, both in blue. 3. Love Mud Confucius "Hoop bar" for bike packing purposes. It's 10mm wider than stock but relatively the same position. Best upgrade ever if you plan to bike pack at all! 4. Maxxis Rekon 2.8 in the rear. My Schwalbe Rocket Ron had a manufacturing defect and had a sidewall delaminate when I converted to tubeless. My dealer replaced it with the upgraded Maxxis for free. It's been an awesome back tire.
You're the second person I've heard recommend a hoop bar for this bike. How do they handle on singletrack? Just bought a Roscoe myself.
Jeramie James the one I suggested is about the same rise and backsweep as stock so it still shreds single track. It handles just the same except with more carrying capacity.
Thanks for the recommendation. This bar is incredibly priced.
I have been moutain biking since the 90s most fun bike I ever had. Love my Roscoe. Drove 4 hours to to get it swapped the bars for carbon and just a bit wiider .
Thomas Hoell what bars did you get? That is next on my list!
Toogy Howser MTB race face sixc
785 wide
Toogy Howser MTB is there a huge diifrence with xt brakes
Very good review, thanks for posting.
Last weekend I went riding park on my Roscoe 8. No black/jump trails, but I felt the bike performed really well, felt I had plenty of grip on berms and had a blast. I've upgraded the tires to 3" Schwalbe Evolution series Nobby Nic & Rocket Ron and running 1.3 bar (19 psi). The cheapo shimano brakes really need to go next, they're definitely not downhill-worthy. Didn't see many hardtails there beside my own but I've never ridden full sus so don't know any better! :D
I just took the Roscoe 8 to Blue Mountain bike park on Sunday, I rode mostly blue and one black trail, no problems! video coming soon!
Have a 2019 Roscoe 6 and love it. Upgraded forks to the Judy's on the 8, saddle swapped, pedals to clipless, dropper post added, and front ring to a 32. Oh mustn't forget my shiny bell from lionbellworks. (Did I lose you there!:) )
Sounds like some great upgrades!
Where you riding at and do you still have the bike? For tires, depending on how much grip you want. I would recommend the Maxxis Assegai for sure. Its the best gripping front tire out there period! It does come with a weight penalty but the grip, oh man. You'll love it. I did a review about it on my channel. I went with the EXO+ casing. Good video man!
Well, you still have the same frame.
Actually...
Haha
I just got a Salsa Timberjack because the Roscoe 8 practically doesn't exist. I would have had to wait to new models.
Basically similar bike to Roscoe. Love it so far!
Charles Holland they're in stock at every bicycle village in Colorado... Vail resorts ows that shop and pretty much bought all of what Trek had available...
I had my trigger finger on the Salsa Timberjack, but I was able to find a Roscoe 8 in stock at one shop in southeast MI, and to my luck they were having a 4th of July sale, got it for the same price! The Timberjack is a great bike too, nearly identical specs.
Santa Cruz Chameleon is fun too!
Officially put in the order for my roscoe 8... but its backordered until august so looks like I’ll have to wait.
I'm picking up a 2019 Roscoe on Thursday vvv excited lmao
Nice! I'm trying to get my hands on a 2019 to review, but not sure it's going to happen haha
Same i get it next week. First bike lol 😁😂
Why did you choose to buy a lower end bike and upgrade rather than just spend more money initially? Wouldn't you have gotten better value for your money with one initial big purchase?
Andreas Gunster you know what they say about hindsight? It’s 20/20 lol, yeah you’re right but when I ordered it I had no intentions of upgrading it like I did I just got caught up in upgrade fever lol
Tweaks:
* New Ergon GA3 grips.
* Fooker (orange) pedals. Have Race Face (blacks) also.
* Wake bar grip ends. One of my Ergon disappeared on a crash. Locking ends will stay put.
* Upgraded to tubeless on my OEM tires.
* Various add-ons for storage & emergency trail service. Added a 2nd water bottle hold which I actually use for kit storage in an orange dry bag using orange cinch ties.
Cool bike as long as you upgrade everything
Haha yeah, in hindsight I probably upgraded too much on it. But I was brand new to the sport and got hung up in upgrade fever!
No need in upgrade great bike
Just got a Roscoe 8 for my birthday a couple months ago and love it but find the breaks are quite weak especially for Pacific Northwest tech trails (Vancouver, Canada) does anybody have any suggestions for stronger brake Calipers and/or rotors?
That's an awesome present! I upgraded to Shimano XT brakes and rotors and they have been great!! I'm running deore calipers with metal pads on my reign with XT rotors and it stops just as well, so that's a slightly cheaper option.
jack gordon magura MT 5
I'd go Shimano Deore m6000 or better if you're used to the feel of Shimano. Might look into higher end Sram if you like a bit more modulation.
Did you upgrade your rear rotor from 160mm to 180mm? If you did, what adapter did you use?
no I stayed with 160mm just upgraded the rotor to a shimano ice-tech
Oh also I had to retune my Sram NX derailleur because my shop set it up horribly and it was clunky as you said in one of your earlier video's, since I tuned it myself it has been precise and smooth even on chunky terrain and rock gardens.
Tad Garman I have no doubts the NX is a good system and I just got caught up in upgrade fever lol
Thank you for the video and the comment. When you changed the cranks, did you change the bottom bracket? If so, what type?
Tomáš Plánka yes shimano BB-MT800
Doing the Shimano XT brakes today keeping stock rotors upgraded grips to odi elite pro upgraded the seat upgraded bars to a 800 mm wide with 25 mm rise only other upgrades I want to do is the rear hub the stock one has horrible engagement
I agree with the hub, do you know if it's possible to easily replace the hub or is it easier to just get a new wheelset?
Toogy Howser MTB i am planning on getting the industry 9 hub and just taking the bike to my local shop and having them re lace the hub to the same rim the sunringle duroc is a decent rim
Do they have options that work with the Boost 141 QR that the Roscoe is using?
Toogy Howser MTB yea I called them directly from what the rep at industry 9 said it’s a boost 148 hub but with quick release end caps they make everything in house so they can customize it to work for our bikes
nice! good to know!
I'm upgrading the hub rear rim to the HOPE pro 4 Endroru Boost. Not sure if this will actually work. Apparently, ill have to convert the 148x12 boost hub to work with the boost141 QR frame the Roscoe have.
Are you replacing just the hub of the complete wheelset? Looks like replacing the wheelset is the easier option and not that much more $$??
I have the roscoe 9, i have just upgraded my rear wheel to the Hope Tech 35W wheel with Pro 4 hub, all I had to do was buy the QR conversion kit and it was simple, the wheel went straight on no problem, just remember not to buy the normal Hope enduro rim as you plus tyres won’t fit the rim, you need the Hope 35w enduro Pro 4, which has the wider rim to fit 2.3 right up to plus sized tyres on. It’s a great upgrade to do to the roscoe 8 and 9 as the stock hub is ok but not great. 👍🏼
i think i will keep my roscoe 9 as is and upgrade to a full suspension bike such as remedy or slash...
babur.karaoglu not a bad idea! The roscoe 9 wasn’t available here so I kinda had to make my own haha
How fast does it go? I am wondering because i want to ride some street
Just bought specialized fuze expert 2019 how this compare to that. Have not hit trail yet. I know the roscoe has 2.8 tires. Fuze I got 3 inch tires. I'll see soon how rides.
Nice! the Fuze looks like a savage bike!
what did you do with your old rockshox solo air 120mm front fork? I have the 2018 Roscoe 6 and looking to upgrade the fork but don't want to pay full retail.
Byron Bruce I sold it on pinkbike awhile ago, I’d look there for deals! How do you like the 6?
@@ToogyHowser I love it. My last bike was a Giant Trance Advance 0, full carbon with Sram Xxo. It was a great bike but more than what I need now. I just ride desert trails in Arizona now with loose granite, sand, and rocks. The plus sized tires are great for climbing and floating on top of the sand.
@@Birdie_Bogey I love my Rosocoe! I also have a Giant Reign, and honestly prefer the Roscoe for most of my trails close to home.
Hello ! I was wondering if it would be little too much putting 150mm pike on my roscoe 9 . Guys what do you think ?
that might be a little too much, is the offset right? that will effectively change your head angle from the stock 68 degrees to roughly 66.5 and the front end will sit a lot higher. Probably great for going downhill, but might make the front end super light for climbing. Just my .02
damn you went from a $1000 bike to like a $1500/$1700 bike shouldve bought a bike in that range then and it wouldve came with all those upgrades no?
yeah maybe in hindsight it was not smart, like I said in the video , I got caught up in the upgrades lol
Toogy Howser MTB all good have fun with your bike 👍🏼
@@ToogyHowser Man it happens. And for most its better to upgrade over time anyways. Besides, there's not a huge difference between Alpha Gold and Plat. and the Roscoe is a trail bike anyway. So what if it carries an extra pound or two, plus you got that sick paint! Ride it, enjoy it, send it!
First of all it's not a 1, 000 dollar bike it's a 1,300 dollar bike... And second of all who cares? Upgrading your new toy is half the fun man, as long as you're out there shredding who gives a shit really
@@DirtNassty Well put!!!
Why did you up grade drivetrain? SRAM nx not good ?
Wondering the same thing ???
with the fox rhythm. did you keep the stock offset ?
yes I did, 51mm
Toogy Howser MTB thank you
So its almost no trek roscoe anymore 8-)
How reliable are these air forks on MTBs? I've seen a number of KTM forks go flat at few hare scrambles.
I've never heard anything bad about them, I'm no expert by any means, but never heard of anything like that happening
One of my bikes is a 2014 stump jumper with Fox 34s. I've ridden it all over Alberta Canada (Rocky mountains) and I've bashed the hell out of it at the Whistler downhill park in British Columbia on all the Blue and a few black runs (mostly A-line if you want to google it) ... I've never rebuilt them and they work perfect and hold air still.
The Canadian dead give away ... check that oat if someone didnt know . Great vids thanks im out your oat
haha, got me! thanks for checking out the videos
I have the opportunity to get a brand new 2018 Roscoe 8 for $900. Good deal?
yeah that sounds like a great deal to me!
Lol I spent 2k
sure you don’t want to upgrade the frame too
i dont understand why trek does not have the roscoe 9 model on usa website. it is available in europe...
babur.karaoglu i was wondering the same thing
Quick question, I have a chance to get one, size 18.5 nad I am 182 cm (6ft). Did anyone try a similar combination?
That would seem pretty small to me? I'm 6'2 and on a 21.5
Hi, I'm 6'1 tall and usually I ride 19"-20" XC bikes. I sat on Roscoe 19,5 and I felt like the bike was definetely too small ( short), so I hope 21,5 will be OK.
Hi, i'm 1meter 79cm and according to the trek site i'm between 18.5 and 19.5. What size should i get? I'm new to mountain biking and dont know much about these frame sizes.
@@marcinszafranski4362 same size as you 6'1 ( 185 cm) and went from the XL. Pretty happy with it. Hows your feeling on the XL?
@@diverbelow27 XL fits perfect with 60mm stem
It seems like you buy all these upgrades , but don't use it up to its max. I don't think u needed to upgrade judging from you ability
sushruth ravishankar thank you sir
nothing like watching a review trying to be quiet because other people are sleeping and then BOOM loud music. If I wanted a music video, i'd go watch a music video.
So nothing but the frame and the stock wheels is original. Hence a whole new bike. You where better off spending more for a better speced bike in the first place. You clearly overpaid but to each his own.
SLX was a downgrade...
