Brilliant job. I reckon Al earned a few days off shifting all that stone. Soul destroying donkey work. I had 10 ton of angular gravel delivered last year for my back garden. Remember standing and staring at the mountain on my drive and wishing we'd just kept it as grass 😅⛰️
Alex , Pop will hold down the shop while your galavanting over to Sweden. Are you taking your Land Speeder with R2D2 as your navigator? Enjoy trip It’s Nice to have a job well setup when you arrive things just seem to go much better
Great job Steve and Alex, nice and straight forward too. I bet it was so refreshing to just turn up and start on the brickwork and have someone labouring. Hope your trip to Sweden went well Alex! 🧱⚒👍
I love watching your videos... been plannign my head building my self build extention and its the little things I never considered... like the foundation concrete is textured to provide grip to the mortar!
Hi Steve &Alex. Nice not having to sort the job out. Are you going to be working with Danny like you do the two Robbie’s. Alex the light saber looks awesome not like my one in the 80’s lol. Great job guys. Have a good weekend 👍
A relatively 'simple' job for guys of your skills, but shed-loads of effort required nonetheless. Have a good break Al, look after yourself. Steve, I'm feeling every step and wince you make on your hips, they are shot aren't they! Got a provisional knee-replacement date in August, so I'm feeling for you mate.
I have a couple of questions i am not sure are easily answered from watching your videos. Can you advise what spacing the building regs require wall ties to be installed vertical and horizontal? Also why dont you fully bed the trench blocks to ensure full load bearing across the foundation rather than just two strip beds of mortar? If load spread is not required why not just start double skin from the footing? Hope these questions makes sense
A full bed under a trench block is almost impossible to get it down to the line . The gap leaves room for the mortar to spread when compressed. Also the centre on the block is Cavity above the the beds are directly beneath the walls and their load above 🧱👍🏽
Hello lads,,great work, just wondering it only looks like a 100mm cavity,is that ok with building regs,if yes how come...im just about to start mine and was told 150mm cavity...thanks in advance
I'm not a professional builder, so l am interested to know why you used those large blocks as the first course the concrete footing. Was it a local authority requirement, apologies if I missed any info on that in the video.
It’s not a stupid answer at all . The council passed the plans and the building inspector has been out twice and is more than happy with where the extension is . Our job is to build the extension not start questioning everybody else’s jobs
@@SteveAndAlexBuild buck passing is one of the reasons the building trade has such a poor reputation. Good building practice should surpass the idiocy of the building inspector. The Grenfell Tower fire was in a building built and remodelled all overseen by numerous building inspectors.

Yep agree.! If I had my time again I would just work for someone, paid holidays, paid sick, pension…no hassle, no chasing money.. the list is endless, roll on 2025 when I retire.!!
Your speed, quality and end product puts alot of builders to shame 👍👍👍

Great work guys. Did you put a damp proof course in or did I miss it ?
You missed it
So did I !!
Hi, not sure if you mentioned, if neighbor had built to property line. What the current rules re pre-existing extensions and the gap between?
It becomes a party wall agreement 🧱👍🏽
shouldn’t there already be one in place.? Although it’s not your problem 😊
Great progress on that job both. Is that a 100 mm cavity? 🤔👍👍
Hi Martin. I guess they will have to put insulation inside to comply with the Nanny regs ?
@@martin2466 what a faff mate 🙄
😭😭😭
@@martin2466 And the customer will have to pay whatever it takes to comply. Think these regs are sponsored by the suppliers. 🙄😀
Absolutely Doug 😠😠🧱👍🏽
Looks great so far ! Sweden sounds great !! It looks like steve wants to go 2 😅 .. have a safe trip ✈️🌍
Thanks Jay ! 😃 We will get there 1 day 🤞🏼😁🧱👍🏽

Cheers Ray . Yea it is but it was passed before the regs changed. We’ve done 2 with 150 cavs now 🧱👍🏽
When you’re building corners do you measure down every course to check gauge?
Yes pal 🧱👍🏽

No Colin they are called trench blocks and are designed to be used in foundations 🧱👍🏽
Hi S&A. Can you use trench blocks as foundations?
Whats the name of the song at 27:45
Sorry pal don’t know . It’s a web site called Epidemic sound where we pay a subscription for our music 🎵 🧱👍🏽
@Bricklaying With Steve and Alex Alright mate cheers, great video by the way. Looks like you got a lot done. 💪👍🏻
Thanks pal 🧱👍🏽
How did that inner wall get building regs approved? That should have been a party wall or at least 500mm gap….
Take that up with building control not us 🤷🏼♂️
@@SteveAndAlexBuild what a stupid reply. Who is going to deal with the court case that ensures when the neighbour needs to maintain their wall ?

Can I ask a silly question..why no damp course
You can ask it but I’m not going to answer it as yes it is a silly question
No damp course 😂😂 especially especially at 23.55 when he clearly rolls out the dpc... Should go to specsavers I think 😂
@@SteveAndAlexBuild you fitted it incorrectly
How do you know if you didn’t see it in the first place 🤓🤣🤣
Wheres the dpc?
At dpc level
