    Harbor freight warranty sucks. Been trying to get my ICON flush cuts replaced for a month because my local stores never have it in stock and they wont order for me. I asked why and they said thats just how it works. So i have to call around and find a store that has it in stock and pray its still there after i drive there.

      Buy a new set online and have it shipped to your house. Then return the broken set for a refund with your receipt. If they want to play hardball then you have to adapt.

    Hello CP: what a timely video. Not even 4 years ago my Makita palm sander lasted 25 years & did a great job. After it died I purchased a Milwaukee palm sander & I used it ( not abused ) for not even 4 years when the unit failed to hold the sandpaper & then the motor started making ungodly noises. Went to HD & tried to to get a replacement so I could finish the job done. Well it's all battery operated now, built like shit, & costs a fortune. Went to Harbor Freight & purchased the best corded palm sander they offered. Brought it home & it didn't ladt an hour & it died !!!!! Today was doctors appointments so on my way I brought it back for an exchange, very nice people with my receipt & no problem. I hope the replacement lasts longer than hours ??? A lot of people are going to hate me but I love Snap On. Yes it's expensive, my rep is terrific, I never get a hassle or a BS story.. The bottom line is I lost an entire day, the job should have been completed, & now I must reschedule the rest of my week & hope this replacement sander doesn't quit as I must refinish an entire stair case. WISH ME LUCK !!! CP I FULLY UNDERSTAND WHY YOU HATE MILWAUKEE & SO DO I. GOD BLESS & MY BEST TO HENRY. TMP FROM N.J.

    CP, you make a really great point about the different tool company's and how they handle their warranties. I thought Capri tools was going to be a better company than what they have turned out to be. It was disappointing that they have already discontinued their reversible ratcheting wrenches in such a short time. They offered a good ratcheting wrenche at a good price with a lifetime warranty and it ended up not being worth the paper the warranty was wrote on!

    Hi CP, this was a great video, I've always been a MAC buyer, couple reasons why is their great tools and great warranty. I have on several occasions when I'd come across a random mac truck and bring a couple broken tools on board, never had met the dealer and hand him the tool, he then would go to a part of his truck and hand me a replacement and if there anything else i needed. Spot on service😊 kind of like sears back in the day.

    Not going to lie CP, there are some topics you’ve discussed that I haven’t agreed with, but the key point in your message in this one of if these companies are going to be around to warranty your stuff is a solid point. I definitely agree, daily drivers this should be a factor when buying, I’ve changed a majority of my basic hand tools that I use the most over to snappy and Mac for that simple fact, that once I die and pass these on to my kids, they’ll still be not only serviceable but able to warranty out as well. As for my one time use tools, those fall into another category for me when purchasing

    • @CPthetooladdict
      @CPthetooladdict  10 месяцев назад +3

      I sometimes have a very hard time conveying my point but somehow I managed to get everything out with out going off the rails to far!! Lol it's not a problem buying cheap tools but you certainly need to understand that you sacrifice the sales gimmicks of the "lifetime warranty" bait and switch. Great neck tools is a great example they got bought out by oem tools and I reached out to OEM Tools and they said they do not longer offer warranty claims for great neck any longer even though they own them!! Pretty dirty company!!

      @@CPthetooladdictyea when I started my mobile service and car flipping, I was in that gray area where I didn’t want to blow my budget overall. But of course the tool addiction part, I definitely found out quick I was not only buying useless tools but just not quality on some stuff in general. And I think that after long term once I found where I was financially and what I really needed my focus on brands and quality and warranty kind of changed. Wish I had learned that part when I looked at my dads and uncles tools, they’re main hand and power tools were Mac and snapon, while other random stuff may have been something less. That’s where I see a lot of new techs stumble on as well.
      But ya this video really delivered well, great job on it.

    I’ve made it a point to contact customer services of tool brands before I make a purchase just to see what I’m in for ahead of time. That experience alone is one of the driving factors of me wanting to purchase from an entire brand, which is also to say I primarily buy off of tool trucks.

    I feel any issue I ever have is mostly isolated to torx bits, but all 3 of our tool truck dealers has been easy to work with if something does break or even just wear out. My most warrantied tool is torx bits, T30 especially. I own a 3/8 drive T30 from Mac, Matco, and Snapon for this reason. I think the Matco bit has broken the most, but my snapon bit (according to our dealer) is the strongest they offer. GM loves loctite and they love T30's. I can usually find ways to save some money by buying cheaper alternatives, but for torx sets, I need to know that whatever brand I go with will have my back, because otherwise I could be spending as much as $200 on just T30's a year.

    I have to say that our Harbor freight will pull a set off the shelf and warranty a single tool as close as they can to the original product they have in stock and sell the "now partial" set on their clearance shelf. Not saying all of them do that. I am a home mechanic, I have learned most from this channel and Pine Hallow Diagnostics. I now order online from the tool truck companies when I need to.

    CP- love you brotha. You always keep it real. I fully agree that I would bet SnapOn will be around in 20 years. I can’t say the same for amazon brands.
    HOWEVER. Let’s say I break a tool after 10 years and can’t get a replacement. Well it doesn’t really matter if that tool was 1/8th the price and worked for 10 years. I’ll just buy another and I’ll still be way ahead that I would have been if I bought Tool Truck brand (like SnapOn)
    But hey everyone just do what’s right for you with the budget you have.

    Harbor Freight does in fact replace hand tools that they no longer carry with the next similar tool. I've done it twice. May depend on your local store. But the same could be said about your specific tool truck. And if it's something they still carry but don't have in stock they will order it for you. Again, may depend on your store and the time may vary but the same can certainly be said about all tool trucks. The same can't be said about their power tools up until very recently though unfortunately. And as much as you mighy not like it or want to agree, Harbor Freight isn't going anywhere but up in the lifetime of me, you, or anyone watching this video.

      Spot on. My newish but local hf is awful with warranty. Our old Mac guy would warranty the gravel in the parking lot. The new one is terrible. Our old snap on guy rarely appeared and wouldn't warranty shit. The new one is a younger dude that was a tech. I've seen him warranty hand tools that were cut up, ground down and welded. Tekton and others will drop one in the mail with a picture. Tool truck brands depend A LOT on your rep.

      Well most guys like myself trew away the stuff they refused to warranty years ago they basically revamped 13 yrs ago now and hit the reset button so as far as I'm concerned they have 13yrs of tools icon has been around for 5 if they are around in 20yrs I will maybe give them the benefit of the doubt. Don't kid yourself hf isn't going anywhere you must forget walmart was blowing up in the 90s and fast forward 30yrs they have destroyed themselves and their marketing isn't much different than harbor freights maybe a little less aggressive and offensive but they are closing stores down at a alarming pace I'm only 45 but I've only great companies that stand behind service quality and fight for their customers survive the test of time eric smidt spends his free time dealing in art collections and hob knobing with the miscreants of America he could care less about tools or the people that work there his mind is only on money and greed.

    Tools definitely can make a job go faster, but faster is not always better if something is missed. For huskey tools, I had a coworker break one and threw it in a scrap hopper. I took it to HD and they didn't make that model anymore, so they gave me a ratchet close to the one I was replacing. Lowes with craftsman I took and old ratchet for a coworker in and the didn't have it. They ended up giving me the newer style ratchet that was closest to what I was returning. Now I did have an old Mac breaker bar from the 50's that I broke when I called them to try and warranty it they said they no longer make parts for that model. They did send me a rebuild kit for a newer style, but it didn't fit. I actually made a video of that breaker bar, I ended up ordering a kit from a company in England and modified the bar to fit the new anvil. the breaker bar is still in use. Nice video!!

    • @CPthetooladdict
      @CPthetooladdict  10 месяцев назад +1

      That's not the case by the guys I know that are professional technicians the only people I see that go to fast are unskilled and just trying to make money and have no care for the craft or the quality of work they put out true professionals don't cut corners or take longer to finish the job then requires and they always leave a car better then they started working on it. That's a fact if you have different experiences, you are working in an environment that doesn't promote excellence. Me accountability is 100% in play at all times. I highly recommend that you contact mac tools again and explain that the part they sent was not correct most likely you will get a new breaker bar and will get to retire your old one free of charge I've done this many times.

      @CPthetooladdict I'm not talking about auto mechanics. I'm talking Maintenance mechanics, general mechanics,milrights, some of the guys I work with. The few times I have delt with an auto mechanic, I always find things that were missed, guess I should look for another place to go. I always try and fix what ever I can myself. I just pulled the transmission on a vw routan and did a complete rebuild, first time ever.

    I have a snapon ratchet thats old enough to only say "Patent Pending" not sure if I could warranty that one, but thwy have always taken care of me with all the stuff ive bought off the truck new or used.
    SBD has been great to work with for warranty stuff for my MAC and Proto stuff, and they have even replaced plenty of older craftsman out of my junk yard box with new versions with much finer tooth counts, may not be USA made anymore, but they gave me rhe next best thing that they had that was comparable.
    Tool trucks are about warranty and service just as much as they are about quality tools. Everything breaks or wears out. Spending your money with a company that will still be aroundin 5 or 50 years is important, even if it costs a few bucks more.

Hf stopped warranty on everything but basic hand tools. I had to send several texts to get a cornwell pic replaced. The rep was mad because i couldve dropped it off at a competitor to have him replace it. I didnt buy it from a competitor. It took 3 different snap on reps to get an old snap on ratchet replaced. Lowes craftsman is a joke. I threw my gunmetal chrome ratchets away after dealing with them once.

    This is almost exactly how I feel. Why guys defend HFT is beyond me; like real mechanics too not 70 year old hobbiests. I’m a little sad about Craftsman and S-K as those warranties will get you trash now in the case of craftsman and S-K is a dice roll if it’s going to be USA or Chinese. But I have rarely needed to use those warranties because they built quality tools. Now Harbor Freight? I have thrown so many things from there in the trash it’s sad. I did bother warrantying some impact sockets only to get even crappier ones in return. What’s a guys time worth? The hours you spend driving and waiting in line can’t be worth it?!?! I don’t have much Snap-On but the little stuff I have is as good as new 20 years later. Do you know what a 20 year old screwdriver from harbor freight looks like? A completely useless piece of trash that has its handle falling apart and would cam out even with a 97 year old grandmother using it.

    A coworker purchased a Pittsburgh digital caliper from Horrible Freight and the digital screen died three days past the 90 day warranty. They store gave him the middle finger and now he has a Wuhan paper weight. A busted tool that you need isn’t a big deal to a weekend warrior but when you’re living or dying on flat rate you need your shit to work and you don’t want or need the hassle of chasing a warranty. That even goes for an unstable tool truck guy that you can’t find with the FBI unless you owe him a shit ton of money.

    Now your SOL..

    Whats your recommendation for a tool brand that is the closest to the big three for warranty and quality but with an online store and online warranty process (not a pro with access to a tool truck)? I've been really liking Tekton and hope they are around for a long time and warranty tools during that time, but i havent broke any yet.

    Lifetime warranty.. :/ I know I bought $10,000 in SK tools because it was American made and it's what I used in the Military and then got hosed 5 years later. A warranty is a thing you hope to have, that's promised, but can be torn right out from under you at any moment. Now I'm stuck with all these tools and there's no way the Chinese company SK will make anything right if I have a problem. The Production is already starting to be outsourced to Gina.

      Unless you’re seriously abusing your tools those S-Ks will outlast you! I have S-K wrenches that are older than me and are still perfect. Even the old round head ratchets can’t be killed! Can’t say the same thing about my Matco 88s although I like them better they aren’t as tough.

    I hear so many say harbor freight has the best warranty. But it costs time and gas to go warranty something. Yeah yeah yeah sometimes the truck won’t have it on the truck and you’ll have to wait….but still I’d rather do that than drive way the hell over to harbor freight. Snap on and matco are my choice.
