Scared Me in the summer of the early maybe 1980 or 1981 watching this on a Saturday maybe August time.
And had to wait until next week Nuclear bombs Aliens chasing human scary strange music.
Scared me alright now I am older this music was so inventive for a early 1980s Sci fi maybe made during 1979/80 mazing music.
We got it on the BBC 1 TV .

Relaxing music. Some of it reminds me of Native American music. Love this soundtrack.

Deliberate I thought to emphasize the parallels between what happened to Native Americans by white settlers from Europe vs Martians by settlers from Earth

Bradbury mentions barefoot Mexicans in his writing a lot from what I remember.

This is beautiful soundtrack. I love the flute, it sounds so ethereal and peaceful. I can just picture myself strolling about a citadel in the Cydonia Region of Mars.

Very nice commenting. I love hearing from people who have the ability to combine film music with their imagination. I do the same thing. For example when I am up in the snow capped mountains in Winter I like to put on John Williams' score for the Empire Strikes Back and imagine I am on the ice planet Hoth. A little imagination can really enhance the listening experience. :-)

@@fishman3786 Yes that's a great imagination about Star Wars. I like to superimpose this soundtrack with real Martian surface images on YT. It enhances the whole visual experience. Carl Sagan once admitted that in his Brooklyn, NY backyard, he would stand with his arms outstretched towards the night sky where Mars was and would wish really hard he was there. I too, find myself doing that--lol!!! There is a certain mystique and romanticism about Mars.

Thanks for posting this. This music takes me back to Ray Bradbury's magical writing of a Mars that could never be, but was depicted with so much clarity, that you could almost feel like you were there. The TV series in the 80's was beautifully put together.

This is such an amazing soundtrack. I remember watching the series as a child and the music just captured the different moods...the emptiness, sadness, mystery, danger. Great stuff. The series itself was a bit hit and miss in places, though. ;-)

So many "young people" commenting on this, I was 32 at the time, enjoyed the mini series, then and now. So many differences in many novel to movie translations. So many times, so much is set aside. Imagine if the movies more closely followed the novels.

Yes thank you for posting this (: Watched the Mini Series in 1980 as a kid and now all these years later managed to find it on a Blu Ray set from the USA only to find it would not play on my set up haha, got it to play on my pc though and just finished watching it tonight as a matter of fact and thoroughly enjoyed it more than back then. Very thought provoking in view of what is going on on our planet now.

I love this soundtrack since I saw this mini series in 1980 - particularly the main theme. Interestingly, the synthesizer parts of Stanley Myers music and the flutes were played by Richard Harvey, who also composed the purely electronic pieces - at Myers request 🙂

    Merci.

I agree that the music for the actual miniseries is much better than the series itself, though there were sections, such as the third mission, the chase through the desert, which came across nice to my young eyes, but now, we’ll...I've seen worse films, lol. Thanks for uploading this.

    • @fishman3786

I haven't watched the whole miniseries so I'm probably being a bit unfair. But the music is definitely wonderful. Hope you are enjoying the mono to stereo conversions. It really gives the music a lot more depth by splitting it from the center channel only and placing it in the left and right speakers. It also directs certain types of instruments to one channel or the other giving it a stereophonic sound. Not true stereo but pretty darn close. Glad you like the video. Keep in touch. Cheers!

I liked the part in the third part of the series, where the the two guys searching for life, go to visit an old friend, and get suspicious to see him of advanced age, but his wife and daughter appear to be in their forties and teens/twenties. Then the captain finds the two graves outside the house, and his suspicions are confirmed. They are like Mr. Data from Star trek.

Boy you said it Kali. I tried to watch this mini series after I extracted the beautiful music from it. Like you said, what a mess.
I hope this video stays up. I had to take it down once already due to copyright. But I have now converted it from mono to simulated stereo which luckily changes the shape of the waveform of the audio. It passed the initial copyright check on the upload so apparently RUclips's copyright algorithm does not recognize the new waveform shape as being The Martian Chronicles audio. Let's hope it stays that way.. Glad you liked it. Cheers!

I disagree on the miniseries. Look past the basic effects and the story is well acted, profound and contains lots of predictive programming for this exact time period. Trippiest thing I've ever seen. A favourite of mine.

I still find it one of the most interesting productions ever made. However, it's not for everyone. One either finds it brilliant, fascinating and surreal or one finds it stupid, boring and messy. Obviously I fall in the former camp. I will agree that Part 3 is the weakest save for the first 10 minutes when Wilder returns to Earth and sees the video replay of his brother digitally erased by the Neutron bomb. However Parts 1 and 2 are absolutely brilliant. Part 2 is my favorite. Perhaps if they included the Usher II sequence which was actually produced and eliminated the Ben Driscoll sequence, the overall product would've been better. Either way, we're in agreement that the soundtrack makes the film. Without the music, it would be tedious in the extreme.

Hi Samuel. Something you may want to considered before telling someone you are disappointed in them for leaving out sections of music in a film score upload is that there is a thing called "copyright protection". It is extremely rare that the entire film score from a popular film can be uploaded to RUclips without making a few cuts due to those segments being protected by copyright. If I had left the sections of music that you are referring to in my video I would have received a copyright strike.
