Kayaked up Paint Creek to the Limestone Cliffs in SW Ohio - Was So Cool to Float Between the Rocks!

- I had a rare weekend off in my kayak bass fishing tournament schedule and decided I really wanted to take my Hobie Lynx up Paint Creek to see the beautiful limestone cliffs that I heard about. These are apparently Glacial Escarpments, or cliffs made by glaciers from what I understand, and it really is so pretty and so different from anything I've ever kayaked around... I highly recommend this little paddle/pedal up the creek! We launched on the main lake (Paint Creek Lake) at the State Park ramp (also known as the campground ramp), and went upriver somewhere around 3 miles total, but we started seeing cool cliffy/rocky stuff soon after leaving the ramp. The last little bit up the creek we hit some shallow gravel bars that we couldn't float over at the current water levels, so we beached the kayaks and waded upstream a ways just for fun. There was a little current flowing against us as we went upstream, but it was an easy paddle/pedal. I fished as I went, but mostly I enjoyed a rare relaxing day out on my Hobie Lynx. My buddy, Brad, found a nice smallie with a ned rig as we were wading up in the super skinny waters, so there is some successful fishing too! :)
My next two tournaments are river tournaments and I don't usually film those since I try to go as lightweight as possible on the Lynx for rivers, so no fishfinder, no cameras, and no big batteries! So I'll see you guys in a couple of weeks at the next lake!
Thanks to Strictly Sail for my always amazing Hobie Lynx kayak, and for having in-stock the Mustang re-arming kit I need to fix my inflatable PFD before this weekend! Check them out at their shop in Cincinnati or online: strictlysailandkayak.com/girlgonefishing Спорт
You're a super angler professional, you're super 🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟🐠🐠🐠🐠
Thank you!
That's a crazy cool place!
It really is!
Dang ! I do stuff like that all the time!! 🤠
Nice visual affects !
What a picturesque trip in a yak...👍 gotta admit though, i got a good laugh when the PFD inflated...even spit a little of my drink out 😂....better find another way with that cart before the water gets cooler...that wouldnt be very pleasant knee deep in the water in the fall! Wish Paint Creek & Rocky weren't so far...really like Rocky Fork
I really hate the other method of tipping the Lynx on it's side, that just isn't good the boat or my equipment, and it takes too long when there is a line at the ramp. This water technique is actually working great and I just figured it out... maybe I can come up with a better way on dry land, too!
I love paint creek lake . Caught some good size catfish there
I didn't catch much but it was so cool looking!
Not fair Mom , Melissa has all the fun !!!!!
🥰
I had to give up a day of fishing to do this exploring, that was a tough decision, but I decided I deserved a relaxing day off... well except for shooting and editing a video. 🤣
Paint creek lake is only about 35 minutes from me and I've never paddled up the main creek. I've waded the smaller forks of paint creek though. A ton of smallmouth!
There have to be some good smallies in that part we pedaled, I just wasn't taking the time to really fish thoroughly.
At least you know it works.
I hosed mine off after a crabbing trip and realized in the nick of time to stop and saved myself the $98 bucks.
A nice video considering.
Thanks
🤣 Sounds like something I would do!
awesome trip... fantastic scenery
I was amazed that it lived up to the hype!
Looks like a truly beautiful place!
I bet your side of the state has more stuff like this!
Oh no!!! The PFD deployed! Beautiful trip and awesome scenery! Hope you had a wonderful birthday!!🎉🎉
Thank you! :)
Beautiful and quiet except for nature
It was so cool!
next time you go to Paintcreek Lake put in at the boat ramp off of 753 and head up Rattlesnake creek
I was not expecting that 😂
Neither was I! 🤣
Just got back from fishing in the Adirondacks ! Great fishing! But I totally forgot all my extra batteries - charge cords - adapters! Sometimes I'm not sure what is going on in my head! Ya I know. Not much! Luckily my niece had some extra cords so at least I could recharge
The only way I get everything in my car is by keeping a packing list in my phone that I reuse for each trip.
@@GirlGoneFishing SMART!🤠
I'm going real soon my next trip.
It was like being on a short mini-vacation to somewhere exotic!
@GirlGoneFishing awesome. I can't wait don't think I have been up that far before. Did you have to drag much ?
@@PoptartFps Didn’t drag at all, I beached the kayak when it got “draggy” and waded up a little farther. I’ll send you a pic of my Navionics on fb.
Good old Paint Creek, I grew up and fished North Fork Creek that dumps into Paint Creek, caught alot of Buffalo Suckers and carps. Still nice small mouths in the drop offs. I do better when I travel to Northern half of Ohio. Fun video
I agree that northern Ohio has better fishing, I'm going up to Nimisila twice in the next 6 weeks!
@@GirlGoneFishing Awesome! I'll be waiting for the videos. I'm talking a few days off and head back to McConnelsville/ Jesse Owens State Park/ AEP recreation ponds. Found some better spots after I got kayak loaded back up before I left.
Cool, have fun!
this is why i dont use those life jackets , good ol NRS does the job
I love how much cooler and lighter this Mustang inflatable is, I just have to remember to not go swimming in it! Totally user error!
OOPS! 😂 consider that a test run on you PFD
Sigh. Now I have to watch my video where I got Tyler Tacy to explain how to re-arm this thing! Hopefully we made it easy to follow!
@@GirlGoneFishing you did i remember
i will say, i like my bonefied sidekick wheels better . i just flip them down and drag it out of the water.
Yeah that would definitely be better! But if doing this cart is something I have to figure out to get to use the Lynx, then I will get good at that cart eventually!
Get rid of that life vest! You can't swim or move when it inflats only back stroke when in deep water! I know from experience!
