    The confident walk away and thumbs up after moving a tortoise miles away from it's burrow and territory 😂. Note to all, if you're not sure about something in the wild and there isn't an obvious problem, do not mess with it, it's likely absolutely fine and you'll probably just make things worse in ways you don't know.

    Focus & Freedom is what I'll take away from this challenge 💚 My favorite practice is one ball against the other. It's amazing to me how many times the worst of the two tee shots ends up tying or winning the hole! More often than logic would have you think. That knowledge gives me some comfort on the course in regular play situations.

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned this yet, but you 'rescued' a tortoise, which don't require to be in or near water. In fact, many tortoises can't swim and will drown in very little water.
    So it was most likely fine where you found it and moving it only took it further from its food source.

    Fun fact, there's a decent chance that turtle/tortoise will spend the rest of it's life watering around trying to find it's home...they have a very small roaming radius and don't like to leave their home area. If you see one, you should help it cross a road, but only if it was already headed that way

    My Grandfather would often play Better Ball Solo Golf. And sometimes 1st Ball against 2nd ball on a quiet course. Something that I’d occasionally would do back in the day at a local 9 hole course on quiet days too. Found it a fun practice routine.
    Doing either format would often result in a Parr score or better. Sometimes a lot better.
    These days I doubt I could get anywhere near that. Too many years of not keeping up the game. Too many issues with my joints and a lack of fitness. Think with even taking best ball on a solo round I’d more than likely still be at least 10 over.

    Just an fyi, that was a tortoise not a turtle. He would probably drown if you put him in water over his head. They get hydration from the plants they eat and when it rains they drink some. And they have territories so hopefully you didn't move him too far. They will often starve if taken out of their territory! But nice round!

    I think the most interesting data on the short putts would be to count them as whatever ball hit the previous putt, unless it's a miss, then I guess if it would have been the 2nd ball it is now the first? I don't know if I thought that all the way through.

  • @davidberry777
    @davidberry777 Год назад

    It's odd, but I think when you KNOW you have two shots, it changes the mental/emotional matrix. I find that when I play loose, I play better. It's the mental game that is ALWAYS the first hurdle. Also, with putting, seeing the line and pace is exponentially greater an advantage. Woods and irons are SWINGS generally about mechanics , distances and shape, but when we get to the greens, there are subtle events that (giving a second chance to) have a much greater effect on final score.
    For example, if the first putt comes up 10 feet short and the second putt is a foot away, the odds of making the longer putt are immensely diminished. There is a potential for a 2-shot swing.
    I think this also translates into wedge play, where making the green with the second shot takes at least one stroke and probably two (maybe three) off of the score for that hole.
    Still, this was a fun challenge!!!

    My club plays a One-Person Scramble every year. It's the tournament I most look forward to. However, we play with one caveat: If you elect to play a second ball off the tee, you MUST finish out the hole from the second ball... no matter what! The first is no longer an option. Aside from the tee shot wrinkle, typical scramble rules apply on every other shot. It provides an interesting wrinkle and forces you to decide whether you really want to try to improve on that "average" first tee shot.
