Happy Birthday a few years later!!! Please tell me what is the point of contact when sending the book to media? like is there a particular department we can send it to?
Thanks! This largely depends on the topic of the book ... and the media outlet you're contacting. It's often the editor but not always. In TV it's a producer. I think this is a good topic for a video ... let me get it on the list for you.
@@BookLaunchers Thank You helpful point of contact! I think Editor- and producer can be applied to almost any genre. For tv, news, and editorial media outlets. very helpful! Will be looking out for that video. I have a second question maybe another video topic. My edits were not done in time to upload to the Amazon presale I scheduled after I moved it as far out as I could and could not change it anymore now I am unable to upload my book to the presale link now that it’s expired and I’ve been sharing that link all year. What can I do now? Thank you!
With a kickstarter people typically do the kickstarter instead of presales. There's no one way to do it ... some will do it for pre-production before the book is done to cover publishing costs as well and then still do a normal presale.
Your videos have been extremely helpful in setting up my KDP ebook and paperback. I have a quick question for you. If i set up my kindle ebook for pre-sale, since amazon cant do paperback pre-sales, should I just set the paperback price to a lower amount for that period of time? Meaning if I do the kdp pre-sale for the EBOOK, can I at the same time sell the paperback and audibles versions while there is a e-book presale?
@@BookLaunchers Just so I'm clear I can use amazon directly and just reduce my paperback price during the kindle pre-sale so they are both discounted at the same time and both available correct? I appreciate your time, thank you.
@@pacificunitedfinancial5864 Hmmm I might not be clear - if it's pre-sale - you can't use Amazon for the print pre-sale. If the book is for sale and you're doing a deal you can do this.
@@pacificunitedfinancial5864 Also I should note that I am not the one that actually does this on my team so there could be nuances that I am not aware of in our general process.

And the maximum period I believe has gone up to 12 months but it used to be 90 days. Double check that though as I am not sure. We rarely do pre-sale periods longer than 60 days. And, unless someone is giving their book army time to buy a book for cheap to get verified reviews we usually do pre-sale at the price it will launch at which is usually 6.99-9.99

Great video!! Subscribed, and watching more of your videos!! However, @4:39 you mention about cracking the top 100 lists, but say Amazon counts the sale for the pre-sale on the day it was purchased? I watched another video, and it said those sales count for the release day. I'm confused....
Depends on whether it was print or e-book It is a bit confusing, and Amazon doesn't actually confirm or deny how they do it so authors just guesstimate, and of course they can always change how they do it at any time. For print sales - it appears it counts when they ship which is usually around release. For e-book, the sale is counted when it's sold.
Truth is I never did them for my books either BUT I suffered the 'temporarily out of stock' problem both times and that really hurt my sales. Something you can never measure but I got a lot of frustrated emails and posts from people so I will do presale in the future for that reason only.
Happy, happy birthday, glad you're taking a day off - hope you had an amazing one :) That was such a great tip about having the kindle at a cheap price then upping the price - thanks. I've not done pre-launch, but will certainly look at it for the next book.
Happy birthday, Julie! This video is very timely. I’ve been hearing different things about pre-orders. Some say it hurts your ranking on Amazon since those sales don’t count anymore on launch day to help you rank higher. For that reason, I was thinking it makes more sense to do a countdown leading up to my launch day and do a promo on that day where people can order to help with the ranking. They make it sound like it’s the sales on launch day and thereafter that help boost your visibility on Amazon. Have I been misinformed?
Yes and no ... Yes it does help with ranking more than presales but no it's not the be all end all ... the thing is my books both suffered the 'temporarily out of stock' problem because I didn't do presales AND I sold a lot of books in a short period of time. I know the out of stock thing hurt my sales because I had a lot of unhappy emails from people. I guess it depends on what is most important to you ... more and more the Amazon ranking is going to matter less and less because they are showing advertised books more than the top sellers. Number of reviews, cover, and title are going to be more important I think.
If I'm only publishing paperback for a children's workbook, do I have to do preorder on IngramSpark to get it on Amazon for preorder? If I later launch and post it on Amazon KDP when its published will that ugly warning of unavailable for weeks still appear?
It shouldn't .... but Amazon surprises us with all kinds of things. The latest wrinkle we've run into is that they are limiting the purchase of books that are selling well to 4 copies! It's print on demand so there shouldn't be a limit but there is!
Thank you! That one should be out in early March! And, in case you didn't already know, when you comment the DAY A VIDEO IS RELEASED you are entered to win some sweet Book Launchers swag. Happy Birthday Julie! Thank you for the great feedback on pre-sales! (I do like your pronunciation of process the Canadian way ;) just saying.) Honestly, I haven't thought as much about pre-sales as I have about having books printed early (like you had mentioned your client did). My release date is March 12th and that's the day of my launch party. I need to have the publication date printed as March 12th, so I cannot hit submit on KDP til then. That means I cannot order printed copies before that date (from my understanding), so I've been looking at IngramSpark to see what their options are. I also think in the future I'll try not to be so picky about publication dates :) lol And I am excited for the "book army" video! There always seems to be pros and cons to such strategies, so I'm interested to see your perspective! Hope your birthday is full of blessings! Enjoy the day away from work ;)
