I was trained in Isshinryu, a similar style to gojuryu. We share most of the same kata and theory of fighting, but not all.
If I punch someone in the Jaw as hard as I can punch, it will break their Jaw.
If you punch me in the body, I passed Sanchin Kata breathing, and I won't even flinch, even though yes, I am overweiight and 23 years out of practice, I can still do that. I can still punch a concrete and wood composite headboard and break it, and I can still thrust kick through two of them stacked. Not those crappy ponderosa pine boards. I'm talking about the headboards of a sturdy bed. I can PUNCH that and break it in half or kick through two of them stacked, because I was trained by an Okinawan GM.
I'm a natural 185 pounder, but I can beat a natural heavyweight or superheavyweight in a fight, even if they are a second degree black belt. That's because I trained harder than anyone else in my sensei's dojo, and he trained us to REALLY beat the snot out of anyone in a self defense situation.

I use the Isshinryu Vertical Fist Straight Punch for both my Jab and my Cross punch. It is also called the "China Punch". It has been proven to be both faster and stronger than the twist punch used by boxers, at least for most people.

This is badass. They are training fighting even harder than we trained in Isshinryu full contact. NO PADS AT ALL and I think the point of the excercise was to make the big guy not rely on size, but also teach the little guys how to beat the big guy. He obvioiusly knows Sanchin Kata conditioning too. So a 265 pounder who knows Sanchin mechanics can take it, even when these other guys know a real Okinawan punch.

I have a new respect for Karate. I didn't realize Karate guys were so brutal & skilled(in foot movement, and changing of body targets). I guess I've seen too many point fights. But at the same time Karate guys lack high guards, or any type of real protection for face shots. Trust me I've seen Karate guys get hurt to the face when they compete against outsiders.
