Short Summary: The average mind wanders 47% of the time, but with the ability to train yourself to shift into a state of deep focus, you can get more done in an hour than most people can do in an entire day. To help with this, the authors have come up with an acronym to better remember and apply a checklist, which is called "FOCUS." The idea is to always use this checklist whenever you want to focus, and over time, you condition yourself to draw a subconscious connection between the checklist and being in a state of deep focus. The FOCUS acronym stands for Familiarity, Objectives, Capture, Urgency, and Surroundings. Familiarity involves creating a routine or ritual that conditions your brain, such as listening to the same pump-up song or running through the same Focus checklist. Objectives mean having a clearly defined objective on what you're going to be doing before trying to get focused, so you know exactly what you're going to be doing and for how long. Capture is how to deal with internal distractions, such as capturing distracting thoughts on a distraction sheet or a digital note. Urgency involves creating a sense of urgency to grab your attention, such as making a deal with someone to pay them a certain amount of money if you don't finish your homework. Finally, Surroundings involve optimizing your environment to help you focus, such as minimizing distractions, setting up your workspace for success, and creating a physical and mental boundary to protect your focus. It's important to note that this method won't work if you're too sleepy, exhausted, sick, hungry, or in any other physiological condition. Focus mode is purely a mental skill, so it doesn't fix your physical problems.

Sometimes, I catch myself reading the same sentence over and over again, because I am not concentrated, and can't remember it. If something like that or brain fog happens, just sit back, close your eyes and relax for a minute. This reboots your focus.
Working hard for something you don't care about is called "stress". Working hard for something we love is called "passion''. I hope that anyone who reads this post will be successful in life. 👍🧡
I get your point and appreciate the wishes! Want to clarify that you can be very stressed for something you’re really passionate about. Bosses, work environments and toxic cultures, unjust working load, etc. So don’t give up on passion due to external reasons, nor feel guilty when you have bad day(s) at it!
Quick summary! The video is about a focus checklist called "FOCUS" that helps individuals improve their productivity and focus. The acronym stands for Familiar, Objectives, Capture, Uninterrupted, and Sensory Environment. Familiar refers to having a routine or ritual to start focusing, Objectives refer to having clear and defined goals for the focus session, Capture refers to eliminating both external and internal distractions, Uninterrupted refers to having uninterrupted focus time, and Sensory Environment refers to having a suitable environment for focus. The checklist is designed to be used repeatedly to help train the brain into a state of deep focus.
That demo was the best part. It was v useful to see how it's done in actual practice even though there was a pretty clear rough idea. Still seeing the demo made things even more clear.
Summary (ChatGPT): This video is about a 2-minute habit that can help someone enter a state of deep focus. The habit is called the Focus Formula and consists of four steps: familiar, objectives, capture, and urgency. The idea is to use this checklist whenever someone wants to focus, and over time, they condition themselves to draw a subconscious connection between the checklist and being in a state of deep focus. The video emphasizes that this method won't work if someone is too sleepy, exhausted, sick, hungry, or in any other physiological condition. The video provides tips on how to apply each step of the Focus Formula, such as having clearly defined objectives, capturing distracting thoughts, and creating urgency by using time pressure or accountability. Finally, the video notes that familiarity can be physical or mental and can range from using the same study blanket every time to running through the same Focus checklist and treating it as a ritual to help achieve neuroplasticity.
Don't forget to eliminate any possible distractions and also consider preparing all the things you need for your study session, so you won't have to risk losing your state of flow by moving here and there; example, water bottle, stationary, headphones, books and snacks.
I have 2 stages 1. Focused and trying to work- end up getting super sleepy as if I'd faint 2. Awake and ready to work- hampered by overthinking into the future. What should I do
I saw this video, and thought about the need to focus on what I was doing. Instead of immediately getting back to work, I watched the 2-mins focus formula for 9 minutes.

Just a question, can you link any related videos for medical undergrads specifically targeting efficient learning please? I'm new to all of this and I want to survive MBBS5 this year. Thanks again x
I usually get internal distraction. There are many thoughts in my head when I am working or studying. Recently, I use Pomodoro, I set 25 minutes and break 5m. I realize that many thoughts appear. I can't focus on my lesson. I haven't found out what method or ways to solve it. I think that your suggestion about Capture made us distract haven't tell or solve the deep or original of problems about internal distraction. However, I am so grateful for your video. Thank you.
The examples are so helpful at the end of the videos. do keep this idea because it does gives us a insight of the effectiveness. very helpful. thumbs up :)
I also do 50 mins of focus and 10 min break mainly because it was like being in class, so it helped me focus better. I have been using this method since before high school (almost 25 years ago 😳) and still use this it at work. I have a little notebook that serves as my distraction notes.
I am genuinely saying that i don't really believe these kind of videos but i tried this for 90 mins and damn that's was intense focus session like my fav was the capture part it really cancelled my inner distractions or thoughts for time being and it's actually worth the likes but still underrated
Yeees, good video i agree To enhance focus during deep work, it's important to set up a distraction-free environment. This means keeping your smartphone and any other potential distractions out of sight and out of reach. You might also consider finding a quiet space where you can work without interruptions. Before diving into your work, it can be helpful to make a checklist of any items you might need nearby. This could include a water bottle to stay hydrated, a pair of reading glasses or oculos, or a pencil for note-taking. By having everything you need within reach, you can minimize the risk of interruptions and stay in the flow of your work for longer periods of time.
when i was a student i only used urgency. i would wait until the night before as long as i knew i could finish in time. i usually completed it faster and still had the objective fresh on my mind for the next day.
Doing or atleast attempting to do deep work, or laser focus on a specific task, specially more cognitive tasks is extremely hard during ramadan. But, we still have to do it! Discipline and determination is so important 😭
You should make a video on making our life like a ritual or a proper time table and you are mainly telling that focus can be made by timer , regularity, pattern and schedule.
**Can't be tired**.... **5 tests one week has entered the chat*. *18 theorems, 18 proofs, 8 definitions, 3 chapters of different math problems each containing around 18 different problem for a normal test that's every other week and you only have the weekend to study for because there are 3 different assignments and 3 different test due next week, and around 3 tests the week before has entered the chat...**
A better approach would be to combine pomodoro with self assigned deadlines for small chunks of tasks. Just using plain pomodoro never worked. Task completion is a better motivator.
I think the problem for me is surroundings that I can't really remove. The main thing is when I am on the computer, I get pinged on Discord or I just get distracted by it anyway. And It's stupid to delete Discord for 30 minutes just to reinstall.
Amazing video! I have a question, what do we do if we program like an hour to do something but we didn’t achieve to accomplish it before that time? Do we keep working until we finish or do we set up another timer or what? Thx!
And I like the video type you make which is that we think those things again and again but can not do, the problem is that clearly that you tell good ideas but to move it in effect is tough and you should make video about how friends and family work together to distract us students and in that how to impleament it in situations of great pressure and distractions.
I've noticed that I somehow focus better with a timer. I keep it at 25 minutes as one chapter usually needs 30-40 min. So when I don't finish with the time, i'm already at the ends of the chapter so I'm like "screw it i'm gonna finish" and just...complete it.
