at 5m04s you talk about that "pin" on the regulator knob which I hadn't noticed. As I had the exact issue (and was out of warranty and not working anyhow) I decided to have at and see what happens. I used a 1/16 drill bit, drilled it out and VIOLA! It spins right off 😎 woohoo!! Thank you for the video as I can now repair my compressor.
Thx JASU IN TEXAS! We were going to buy a new (better) compressor, but now I’m going to drill out the pin as you suggest. Thanx for the tip! I let you know how it works out.
I found where you don't need to drill the pin. Just grab the knob with some pliers and turn counterclockwise. Turn hard. The pressure control knob unscrews and all the guts to the pressure regulator are revealed. Looks pretty simple to rebuild. Mine had a wrinkled up O ring, and it could have been that the plunger was sticking. You don't even really have to take off that housing. I didn't have the proper size torx wrench, anyway.
Ordered Black & Decker rebuild kit 5140147-52/53, which seems to have all the parts. The actual problem was a broken plastic piece inside the regulator.
Your pressure regulator valve in fact isn't working, it appears (from a few clips) that you can rotate it more than 360 degrees so it may be out of calibration - notice that the aftermarket regulator and the one on your leak down tester make multiple full turns between no pressure and full pressure setting. Your leak down tester has a pressure regulator at it's input so setting the pressure to 50 psi on the gauge and monitoring it is largely inconclusive.
Thx Killer2600… clearly I’m a rookie… appreciate of the learning and comments. The net-net conclusion… soon I’ll be upgrading to a better air compressor.
We thought about it, but wanted to try a cheap route. Net-net… we’re still living with the it, but have our sites set in upgrading to a bigger better unit.

I have the exact same failure after about a year.
Hi Joe… consistent failure and video comment… Horrible design by Dewalt… I’m hopeful they’ll address this problem.
Just get a cheap manifold with a regulator and replace the whole assembly. That's what I did to a different branded compressor.
Thx MPowerS… on it… researching it now. I’ll report back shortly.
Nice!
Thx… still learning and deciding what to do on this project… we’re considering replacing the manifold.

Why not put a new set of gages right at the tank take the old ones off

Upgrade to a better air compressor!
On it!
