  • On the eve of Michigan's roll out of its new expungement law from a sweeping seven bill-package signed into law by Governor Gretchen Whitmer and effective tomorrow, Attorney McCoy & Attorney Martin interview a sought after noted authority on law reform and a true champion for justice and equity, State Representative David LaGrand (District 75, Grand Rapids, MI) , one of the chief architect's of the Clean Slate Legislation which goes into effect on April 11, 2021. Michigan now leads the nation on expungement reform and Rep. LaGrand explains the genesis of the new law and how it differs from California and New Jersey's efforts.
    Rep. LaGrand, who is also an ordained minister, discusses his efforts to address the cash bond issue and his further efforts to make the criminal justice system, a more humane system for Black and Brown people, the impoverished and people combating mental health challenges.
