- THE SEARCH FOR THE BEST CHICKEN FRIED STEAK IN TEXAS OF 2023 CONTINUES
This year ill be traveling all over the state of Texas to find the best chicken fried steak in Texas
This week i am exploring east/central( Brazos valley) area of texas
(Longhorn Tavern Steakhouse)

Simple review:
Steak was so so so tender and easy to cut( you actually didn't need a knife,it could been cut with just a fork)(
The thickness of the steak was perfect,not to thin and not to thick
Nice thin crispy perfectly light golden brown breading on steak .The breading was absolutely perfect, the breading stayed on after every cut and bite until the end
Gravy was perfect consistency, not too thick ,not too thin ( but had a small bit of flour taste at the end )
Definitely hand breaded and wasn’t frozen ,it was very hot as it got to my table( definitely freshly fried)
The steak was absolutely perfectly seasoned( I didn't even look at the salt and pepper shakers on the table)
The size and portion was HUGE( bigger than my hand) ,I actually ate EVERY bit of it
The price was the most i have paid yet but it was a fair a deal (20.00) that included mashed potatoes ,corn and Texas toast
Not too bad of a deal ( for the huge portion size)
EXTRA POINTS:
Loved the size and atmosphere of this place(its been around since 1984)
Love the wood work,tin walls and deer antlers around the dining room area( Makes you feel like your in the country and a real TEXAS eating experience
Very experienced wait staff,very fast, kind and efficient
Lots of locals eat here as i could see by the way they interacted with the wait staff
Loved the different types of HOMEMADE pies and daily specials( which is very good deal)
This definitively is AGGIE country ( beware LONGHORN fans lol)
THIS PLACE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING( I AM DEFINITELY GOING BACK!!!!!

I enjoyed the trip Long Horn Tavern is a very nice , clean, spacious, pleasant place to eat loved the walls and the seats the food looked so good I was not expecting you to eat it all so glad you enjoyed it have a great weekend.

You have had more Chicken Fried Steak than I've ever had in my entire life, and I like it 😂 I use to go to Texas Longhorn. I always got it, and gained the weight to prove it 😌 Now you have your spot to go back to. I mentioned before, you would really like a BBQ restaurant in Naperville. Its called Gemato's Wood Pit BBQ, if you ever do get out there! 🙏💕

Longhorn is a place we live to eat steaks 🥩 We ate @ Longhorn Wednesday and we ordered the Longhorn with loaded baked potatoes and garden salad 🥗 it was delicious. The hot bread 🥖 loaf with whipped butter is always good. Now, i’m going to have to try their Chicken fried steak and see what it’s about. Jeffery, I see you made it to my Honetown on your quest for the best CFS! I also visited Dixie Cafe a few months ago, and I have to say I wasn't impressed. I've eaten at Longhorn Tavern, but I didn't try the CFS but the CFC, and it was ok. I can't wait to try George's and the place up by San Antonio. Keep up the good work bc I enjoy your content.

That place is prerty good we went to my mom's 70th there. I haven't been to a restaurant since before pandemic onky because I don't like taking my mom on public to much when I visit. Still a little gun shy with her health. That tall building in your opeing shot outside when I was young it was sears back before the mall was a thing it was the onky place downtown to have a escalator then wools worth down the street added one later. Nice to see the old hometown.
I'm in Hutto now not sure if you heard of the Texan Cafe I don't know if they CFS is any good or not but they are mostly known for desserts

The gravy looked to be the perfect consistency despite being rushed like the potatoes. The chicken appears to be handmade with the right savory seasoning.

Anyone make their gravy like yours Jeffery? Since I watched your video however long ago that was my son and I haven't cooked home cooked CFS with any other gravy. I just with my sweet wife had been around to enjoy that it as well. Question - Do you have the meat tenderizer attachment for your KitchenAid. If so, do you like it?
