Coming back here to review for some PChem II stuff and my professor was shooketh that I learned determinants in honors algebra 2 (~4-5 years ago). These videos got me through honors algebra and geometry and now this math channel is like... weirdly nostalgic? Wild.

Thank you so much for the shout out to teachers to reward individual thought and test based on RESULTS, not method! This is SO important, yet not practiced nearly enough. The beautiful thing about math is how many ways there are to approach something. The more tools we have in our pockets, the stronger we'll all be for it. Thank you again!

Been a long time since I messed about with trig-functions, but just for grins, I ran the numbers on the points-defined triangle. Please check my work. It is definitely [a cute, scaly] one with side lengths 7.81, 7.07, 6.08 and angles 72.36°, 59.67°, 47.94°. Taking the longest side (7.81) as the base yields a height of 5.25 and working out the 0.5(b•h) what do you know comes out to 20.5ish. Golly, this maths mumbo-jumbo still works - Quod Erat Demonstandum

    Thank you very much.
This was explained so good and easy. I can also use this in my electronics to solve the unknown Voltage in 3 x 3 Matrices. God Bless you.

I’m entering high school this year, & I’ll take geometry this school year, & the only thing I can say about determinants is that it looks too simple, no wonder why determinants are 1st taught in Algebra II or Precalculus. That looks way too simple, too simple that it should have been first taught in Algebra I

I'm sure it will later in the years, I am just doing this to learn it for myself right now. Math is my favorite. Next year I will be taking Algebra 2 so it should help me then!

I don’t understand what the matrix key is for for a 3 x 3 when we are only taking the first 3 numbers of the horizon column so surly the key should just comprise of + - +

    I tried doing the area thing, and the points were ( 2, 2 ), ( 5, 10 ), ( 12, 5 ) which would make its equation
    | 2, 2, 1 | 2, 2
    (1/2) | 5, 10, 1 | 5, 10
    | 12, 5 , 1 | 12, 5
And when I solved for the Area it gave me
    I.) ( 1 / 2 ) * [( 20 + 24+ 25 ) - ( 120 + 10 + 10 )]
    II.) ( 1 / 2 ) * [( 69 ) - ( 140 )]
    III.) ( 1 / 2 ) * -71
    IV.) -35.5
The answer would be right, except that it's a negative. So, for future reference, how would I avoid subtracting in the wrong order? Would the bigger number just always be subtracted from instead?

Thomas-Isaac Arcino good question: just remember that all you need to do is take the absolute value of whatever you get, another words, just make the number positive and it works.
