Just got the pump replaced on my Escape (Kuga II as it is called here in Germany) under warranty after 2 years. 1.5l engine. Looked under the hood and wondered, why there were new bolts on this motor mount thing. Now I know! Thanks a lot for this series of videos! They show you really know what you are doing! Always appreciate a good craftsman when I come across one! Cheers from Germany!
Was just quoted to do this job by dealer. 8.6 hrs for Waterpump, thermostat and flush everything. Additional two hrs if timing belt needs replacing. Per dealer this is Mitchell book time.
My daughter’s car water pump died at 108,000 miles. I have been working on this thing for about 5 hours. First since I’m changing the water pump should also change the timing belts and if so how can I reset them....Secondly, the small pulley has to come off, correct? Lastly, where can I find those rubber pieces to help keep the chain in place. Thank you for your time.
Hi great video i have a 2019 ford escape in Australia with the 1.5 ecoboost engine .Are the water pumps the same on those ? Also just wondering what your thoughts are on the 1.5 should i keep it once warranty is over ? We get 5 years warranty here will have about 75000 klm on it by then . Thanks
This video has a good shot of the crazy a55ed arrangement on the front of this engine. He points out you might as well change the timing belt since you have to remove the timing belt tensioner.
Question, what’s the risk in reusing the harmonic balancer bolt? Work shop manual says to trash. I would like to get the car back together but stuck at this step of wether to use new or reuse.
How do you get away without using ANY of the lock tools? I didn't see you pull the crank pulley off. Do you not use the alignment tool for that either?
Thanks, I will try the Ford dealer her in Okc, I took my 2012 Fiesta to a garage here in town, he told me it would be about $500 to replace the pump, then he called me back saying he cant do it, I asked why, he said he has to buy too many tools, I guess he means the locking things for the cams and stuff, so I saw your video about using wedges, thanks for your help.
Hi I have a question about this engine and timing belt replacement, since it's variable valve timing when replacing the belt you need to remove the valve cover to lock the camshafts? Will I need the flywheel lock tool to remove the crank pulley bolt and have it lock until I install it back?
Hey man I hope your still answering questions is removing the turbo snorkel a must and do you just unbolt timing belt tensioner for it to disengage thanks great videos
Yea gotta remove the snorkel and you need to take the tension off the tensioner by rotating it...you then have to stick a pin in it to hold it locked unsprung
What did you do when you went in it loos like you did something behind the tension er before you removed it I can’t get the stew loose on the tensioner
Believe he's hammering rubber wedges on either side of crankshaft and timing belt to hold it in place. Similar to wedge he hammered in place to hold front cam and belt. And he also painted belt and cams to mark where they were.

@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I have never done one before. I’m a Toyota technician obviously we don’t have fords but they do have similarities. Good video man.
Just curious why the timing belt pulley had to come out, was it blocking the water pump bolts or it's on top of the housing? Would be nice if you could do this without messing with the timing belt components.
Spark Plug Projects the timing belt often spins the water pump on many cars ,and they are always replaced together....in this case its warranty so they won’t pay if that was my car and I was keeping it I’d paid the difference to have the be,t replaced while he was in there
Quick Question man, I do these on the Escapes, but Friday I did on the Fiesta 1.6L, I've done this so many times but the one time I messed up because I was rushing at it. But what happen was, I did everything far as marking and stuff. But It seems to me the Cams moved about a tooth off. I didn't even realise it till I went to get start it up, What happen was It took like 5 seconds for the engine to actually fire up. (Cranking Longer than Usual) But it ran good after it started up, So i'm like, I screwed up that timing. So I went ahead to take it back apart and found that the cams are off about a tooth or two. I didn't fix it yet due to late in the day. Do you think the Valves hit the pistons? I didn't feel the engine running off or anything, just took a long time to start up. Not sure if these engines are Non Interference or Not.
+MattsPlaysHD i believe they are interference, however with bow you described how it ran & a tooth off....in my opinion i think ud b fine. Lemmie knw..
Thanks for these great set of videos. I have a 2015 Fiesta ST, and it is leaking heavily from around the water pump area (same motor as this car). My car does have only 8k miles on it, but did run hot for about a minute because I forgot to bleed the cooling system when I coolant flushed it. Do you think this is what caused the water pump/gasket to fail so early?
Sam, thanks!!! You should have taken your vehicle into the dealership. Your vehicle still is covered under its factory warranty, 3 yrs or 36k miles. No I don't think that is what caused the leak. They had a bad batch of water pumps, yours probably just crapped out. Let me know how it goes!!
Aaron , actually another important piece of info if that my car was in a front end accident so warranty was voided. The motor wasn't really impacted by the accident but I'm wondering if the force knocked it hard enough to break it.
Sam, thanks for the info. I mean if there was a way to test and prove that it indeed caused it, ehhh possibly...likely hood, probably not. I have done LOTS, Sam LOTS, probably just got a junk pump. The part has been revised with different guts so they obviously knew somethin had to be changed.
Same for damn near every Ford\Mazda today...And if you change the belt... You better know what you're doing..As there are many more steps and tools needed... Good Luck

Did you put the engine in time or did you keep it where it is, mark and just install the wedges?
Left it where it was
Could door wedges be used?
