Today I do a review on the Ford fiesta 18.5MY ST3 1.5l Turbo 3 cylinder
0-60mph test, launch control test, walkaround, owners review and exhaust sound in all three modes (Normal, Sport, and Track)
This car is so much fun and I'm so pleased to be able to do this real world review after driving for 300 miles already

Driver alert system detects when you're tired and has an alarm go off and sometimes vibrates the steering wheel.
I was on holidays in Germany and nearly nodded off on the autobahn. That thing saved me and the car full of passengers

Test drove one about 6 months ago when I got out my missus said I was grinning from ear to ear. Cos I'm 57 and just had my 1st grandchild I went for the focus active x. Lovely car but I've just been back to dealership and told em as soon as they get an st3 in I'm having it

Very comprehensive and well done review, thank you! Don't despair over the lack of hitting 60 in 2nd though as shorter gearing makes cars more fun so it was a brave & commendable decision by Ford to disregard the arbitrary numbers game. Enjoy your great car :)

I will be sticking to my 5 door ST 3 as I don't like the back of the new Fiesta. Pity because I like the other improvements they've made. I note the 1.5 sounds just like the 1 litre 3 cylinder.
A lot of people have the same opinion as you mate on the back end. I can see why people feel that. Sounds amazing in person. Much better than the 1 litre. My equipment doesn't do it justice

Try it with launch control off. You only need 0.07s to dip into the high 5s.

So I remember watching this video a year ago and wanting an ST.
Well last Friday I finally got my hands on one and wow what a car.
So much fun, picked up the Performance Pack based on what you and others said and yeah that LSD can really feel it on corners.
What’s your opinion on launch control? I’ve not tried it yet because the sensible driver in me is thinking of that poor clutch and tyres lol

Waiting for mine to be delivered this week. Can't wait! I did a test drive beforw buying and it was juat amazing. This car is so much fun and I've been driving BMWs with 300+hp before that and I had an AMG as well.

Nice review man, I used to have a mk7 st3 mp215 but had to change to the mk8 fiesta st line due to personal reasons...really want the spec you have on the new st! Gotta wait about a year though unfortunately 😭

Well without being sycophancy that’s a brilliant video I know this was posted sometime ago but I’ve been saving hard and went to trust Ford Staines, picking up my new ST3 in about three months perhaps sooner . Obviously it would’ve been quicker to deliver , but due to COVID-19 . that car makes a sweet sound can’t wait for mine .

And maybe they gear it just a few miles per hour short so the number isn’t as close to a focus st ;)

When was the first registered MK8 ST in the UK? My ST3 was registered 31st July 2018 so even earlier than yours. Great vid by the way

Launch control can be activated from the ford performance view on the tft, when at a standstill you just need to press ok to activate. Also most aren’t aware the software on the car allows for flat change so you don’t have to lift off just dump the clutch with the accelerator pinned and grab the next gear.
I found this out today 😂😂😂didn't know about the flat change, so thank you. I shall try this out tomorrow.
Does the lsd eliminate torque steer when using launch control ?
Great question. So I haven't felt any torque steer per say. But there is definitely a feel through the steering wheel of the front wheels searching for grip.

Just a head up, I don't think flat foot shifting or launch control are really great for your clutch and drivetrain, if you care.
8.12 you state active dampers and mention in normal it's comfortable. It doesn't have active dampers so no difference to dampers between Normal-Sport-Track just drive assists and the exhaust valve change.

The funky dance your lights do, is this automatic or a certain setting??
It is because of the frequency of the recording equipment.

The lights are permanently on but it looks like the flicker because of the capture rate of the camera
It’s a nice car. Unfortunately it’s way too expensive. Configured one online and it is about 31.000€. That’s the price I’ve payed for my 2014 Seat Leon Cupra back then.

Now that you have had the car for a while have the rattles got any worse? I'm a bit OCD on this and it could be a deal breaker for me.
Assuming you have now done a few thousand miles by now, how do you rate it for build regarding creaks and rattles (including your sun roof that I rather like). I would greatly value your thoughts.

So I have done 13600 miles now, build quality IMO is very good. I've had no issues with rattles or noise, sliding Pano roof is golden. No issues at all. About to put some PS4 tyres on her as mine are pretty much shot after the Revo remap I've had done. So I do wonder if the road noise will improve a bit. Gotten a bit louder since the tyres have worn down.

Indeed it is. I've had the Revo map and it is running an extra 110lb/ft of torque and an extra 67 bhp. Video coming soon 😊

Including the sps anti theft device was £619 VAT included. A lot more power than the mountune equivalent map, so worth it IMO

Hi Carl. I work in the luxury vehicle market so my version of quality is maybe a little skewed. Poorly out statement I suppose. A more accurate description would be that I'm not expecting the same quality as say an Audi A3 or BMW 1 series.

Great review covering both the practical elements along with really showing what the car can do. I had the MK7 ST and was surprised at how good the mpg could be. It returned 47mpg on a sensible motorway run once whilst sticking to the speed limit. What mpg are you getting at motorway speeds in this? I suppose as you put more mileage on the car it will get both faster and more economical
Thanks for the comments. I did a run to test both A roads and motorways and got an average of 45mpg. Driven in normal mode. Wasn't really "trying" to be economic, pretty happy with that 😊
To be honest that is really good for a 200bhp hot hatch! Make sure you run it on 97 octane + and I am sure as the mileage increases the car will get substantially better.
It was rather impressive. That cylinder shutdown technology seems to work well

Why have they completely destroyed the rear? looks disgusting from the rear. Not really a fan of the stuck on pad too. This should of been so much better :(

Great informative video though :p still an amazing car though! I felt the same about the new 1 series too like so many amazing improvements but just the rear. Love the interior of the new st too!
As a past owner of the M7 i still think Ford could of give us much more power in the ecoboost 1.6 but hey! that would of been too close to the Focus ST power performance,i think the 230 Mountune map is what the M7 could of left the Factory with even the ST 200 was not worth the buy as a stage 1 map was so cheap and so close to the ST 200's.
But i like the sunroof option alot on the M8 now.

Terry C the mk7 has room for so much power, if only ford had utilised that at factory. But hey a after market map and a few hardware tweaks and your getting serious gains for the money. And if you’ve got several grand lying around you’ll get an easy 300hp+ and start walking golf R’s 😂😂

I don't think my mk7 FiST has ever under steered.. I mean I don't think I could even make it under steer.. I think i would be disappointed if i traded mine in on the new mk8. Not the interier but the driving.. Oh and the looks.. Ford why???

Mmm my mp215 hasn’t once understeered,will with a lot more power but with 215 bhp the toque vectoring works a dream
I've had under-steer, when taking a corner too fast while breaking, basically from bad driving lol. I'm still learning how to drive it at the limit. I've also had lift off over-steer, which is great.
The MK7’s handle well, but they can understeer for sure! I owned a MK7 for nearly 4 years and now have a MK8 and can assure you the difference in handling is pretty staggering with that diff. That said, you can put the same diff in a MK7, it’s just quite expensive!
i wonder how much more power you could get out if this engine with a remap, with it been a 3 cylinder, i fear it may already be maxed out

So last I heard there will be a 1.5 petrol 3 cylinder version and also a detuned 2.3 turbo from the RS. News changes weekly almost though.
Rumour was that the ST 3 will have 275 bhp and the 2.3 T engine. ST 2 & ST 1 will take the 1.5 at around 220 bhp.
Looking forward to the official news from ford though. As I say, only rumours at the moment.

Mr Codiotec thanks. Is it because of the front bumper? I have a mk 7.5 Zetec 1.25 and it has front and rear. Mine isn’t sporty so that’s probably why it fits
I think it is because the bumper doesn't allow for the sensor. Maybe the Intercooler needs To be clear for airflow reasons

Noooooooo. You can, but I didn't notice much if a difference. JB CTR has ran a revo map and he has the kit to change the software to deal with different fuel.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. They are pretty quick so I imagine insurance is a lot untill mid twenties at least.

Have you driven a MK8 ST without the performance pack to compare how it feels around corners?
I have yes, with the 17" alloys spec'd. Still handled well but there was a big difference in how it pulls out of corners. My opinion is that the LSD is a must. Heard others say they don't notice a big difference to justify £850 for the performance pack though

I’m close to buying an ST 2 69 plate with the performance pack does anybody know if they come with auto high beam lights and traffic sign recognising?
Rattles and squeaks from new thats why i got rid of my MK7 ST 2,all them rattles got worse,then the brakes stated to get real squeaky too and for the price of this new MK8,not one bit of sporty trim inside except them seats,like that they finally gave us a sunroof in this one though!
I have test driven 2 of these and the seats are too tight for me too,dull interior all dark and gloomy why FORD?

Same region as it's 4 pot rivals. It's remarkably similar in performance as an F56 Cooper S with the JCW performance kit.
The 3 cylinder question dissipates after a couple of minutes behind the wheel. It's very torquey and keen to rev.
@@brunobrites Im sure it is pure fun. My stage 1 civic 1.5 4 cyl is a little quicker to 200 and its much heavier. Thats why I was surprised. Will surely be better with mods. Love fiestas.

I am surprised from the 0-60 times. Didn't expect that. Must be quicker even than a JCW Cooper then
I was sceptical of the 0-60 in sub 6. Had to watch it back a few times whilst editing to make sure the stopwatch was correct.
According to the "internet" the JCW manual does 0-60 in 6.6 and the ST in 6.4. Only marginally quicker according to dealer figures

Mr Codiotec a Civic Type R FK2 or FK8 does 0-60 in 5.7 with no twitching left or right!You can actually get 5.3 if driven perfectly! For a fwd car that’s probably the best time you’ll see done cleanly with minimal wheel spin. There isn’t much point chasing 0-60 times in fwd cars if you compare what the awd monsters can do it in i.e Focus RS, Audi RS3 and so on, having said that Fiesta seems like a fun car to drive.

@@rosspemberton I'm not saying the golf R is the best thing out there I'm just saying for a similar price he could of got one with low miles one owner. He had alot of negative things to say about quality and so on and wouldn't be saying them with the R and more so with the 7.5 R. Not the best on track but country roads even in the wet it grips like crazy while feeling safe. Would you really take one of theses over a R?

I'm thinking of buying a used one in a year st3 with performance pack but worried about the launch control ie the clutch has it safeguards built in or will they be prone to going through clutches like mad? As u did 2 in the vid?
Ford stated that the clutch can be used as much as you like for launch control. It is designed to take it. Tbh I very rarely use launch control. Nice feature, but not really used on my journey day to day.
I'm 10,000 mike's in with fairly hard driving. Still feels as good as new.

Love the diff. I had the privilege of going to Quaife to see the factory and where they make the diff. Well worth it. The clutch is more than capable in my opinion. Sure I will find out over the next year. 😂
@@MrCodiotec keep me updated mate it was just the 1 worry also the theft elliment but think will fit a plate and a ghost system and also steering lock just to be safe
Good idea. OBD blanks and wiring mods can help with the theft issues. I will be uploading again soon, just moved house so a little difficult to get the set up sorted 😂

Really depends on the finance cost and personal financial position really.
I have financed mine on a PCP agreement. Others will argue this is a stupid way to do it and say to buy outright.
