About time. They are simply beautiful. Especially the pilots jacket. It is well cut and more for the catwalk than the cockpit.

I wonder what Manish Malhotra was thinking? Passenger comfort? On a long flight with deep colors like that can drain your energies. So much RED can increase rage and tiredness. Dark colors represent "I am right" and "I dont care", "I know what is right for you" attitudes. It represents power and authority. You be the judge if you want to fly with such energy "vampiring" around you. An innocent smile from your crew might just make you feel uncomfortable. I would reserve such colors for Royalty and not for crew who are trained and hired to assist you to bring you food and drinks, collect your vomit-bags and other garbage.
Kingfisher airlines has used a different shade of red which was more playful and energetic to dress their crew who belonged to a much younger age-group. It seemed to suit their age, but it certainly set them apart as being "upper crust" from the passengers they served. It served their product too because Kingfisher was a full-service expensive product.
For Air-India, I Would lose the aubergine and match the red with a milder ( perhaps yellow) color uniform to introduce balance in the cabin.
