Your pickin not only gets the notes, but the whole feel, drive, syncopation. The whole ball of wax. Sounds more like John than all the folks playing it in open G. great version.
I've come back to your videos again and again for the last ten years, which is considerable since 10 years ago I was 18. Its hard to imagine someone of your deep feeling is doing 'well' in the common sense, but I hope you are still sharing the waters of sorrow and love of life from which these songs emerge for many years to come. Your gifts are needed and the have provided me with sustenance, delight, and a little more courage than I would otherwise be able to have. Many good blessings to you.
I'm with this guy. Been coming back to these videos and this one especially since I first discovered Mississippi John Hurt when I was about 23, almost 10 years ago! And to be honest, with all due respect I prefer this version over Mississippi's!
Great cover from a great artist. I’m from Teoc Mississippi (where he was born) and the music community there swears by him. Glad to see good people still continuing his music. Beautiful cover from a song written nearly 100 years ago.
This one caused the same dopey grinning euphoria that all your tunes do, but had an extra bonus--that gap, which is one of the best pauses ever. Even your silence sounds good! I say again, you are truly gifted, and I have set aside money for your CD.
Something about how you do this one works better for me than even the MJH original. You made it your own. Love it. And he camera angle is the next best thing to a TAB. One more song to learn in a long list of goals...
I came across your clips for the first time today while researching the great Skip James and now have listened to a bunch of your music. Wow. You're a terrific player, clearly with a real understanding of those great old players, excellent left and right hands, and even more importantly, great FEELING for this no-longer-quite-so-lost body of music. It's great to hear someone other than my crotchety old buddies and me showing love for it. Keep on truckin.
This was the first GOOD blues video I saw on youtube. I mean, I thought and think still that this is profound, sexy, authentically 2000s and 1930s too. It's totally cool, atmospheric, and beautiful. So where in fuck are you? IPBN is needed by everyone. It's a frozen universe without you and your music! Moh
This is great! Nice guitar playing, but I love the personality that come through. Loads of fun, and great music. I'd love to see you play live somewhere. I bet it'd be a hoot!
fancy seeing you here mate ://ruclips.net/video/qp3IvrlO8oU/видео.html this is my friend from New Zealand Elliot Brown, thats how i saw this video and found your comment. ^^
I've been listening to this on a playlist of Mississippi John Hurt, the guitar is identical to his playing. Absolutely identical, it could have been him playing, brilliant.
U It's a year later and , I ditto what Marc said a year ago. Excellent finger picking ! I think, I need to get playing this. Really Hope to hear more and All The Best.
oh sweet lady, you don't know how much this has inspired me tonight, true american style picking, loved it love it, you can be I'll be listening to more and polishing my songwriting skills in hopes you might one day cover something I write. Awesome! Many Stars to You! You're already there in book, God speed ahead sweet child, loved you soul and spirit,...shit! loss for words, Damn this was so good!!! loved it.
@JimiChristopher The guitar was not plugged in. The mic was a Sennheiser ew 100 g3 (a wireless lapel mic) plugged into a Nikon D300s with a 14mm aspheric lens. Not so much a choice, it was the equipment that happened to be around at the moment.
I agree, Mr Jim, Christine's guitar sounds fabulous, and to me, its similar in tone to the guitar used by Mississippi John on the original.Great version. Like me, I suspect that Christine's fans have likely given up on her posting more videos, its been such a long time. Doesn't stop me hoping I'm wrong! Come on Christine, prove me wrong! I love your music.Always inspiring. Always top notch.
IplayBanjoNow,...one of my all time favorite channels on you tube..:),..love this stuff, love couple of covers from the old blues masters,..awesome playing,...respect...!!!
I had the pleasure & honor of sitting a few feet from Mississippi John Hurt during his Oberlin concert April 15, 1965. The entire concert appeared on Vanguard Records as "Best of MJH" as though an anthology. In small print: Live at Oberlin College. So great, so beautiful. This song and Louis Collins are the most cinematic stories. MJH music is contrapuntal.
i been a Blues singer for along long while ..play guitar too but not like you .. im so impressed with you but would sure love to see you play live . and i still dont know your name or where you are performing .. . you got the real spirit in you , girl === its a rare thing to play it like you were ..one of the originals... if you see this will ya let us know where we can see you play? thanks!
Great recording, Christine, - top playing and top singing - record wherever you like, wear whatever you like--chew whatever you like while doing it -- it will still sound great - that's the important bit, with all due respect to other contributors! Its the Blues- whoever heard of such "rules" in Blues? Particularly in reference to a talent such as yourself. Thanks for posting.
Lovely. I really like your style, If you don't mind , I'm going to youtube to mp3 your songs, unless, i can buy some of them which i'll gladly do....I love it. Thank you. Very Heartfelt, and you make it look effortless, MJH would be proud.
Nice job! I have the 000-16 SGT too and love it for stuff like this. Parlor guitars and fingerpicking blues go together like Frankie & Jonny. Keep doing what you do and forget the haters - not one in a hundred of them have a video showing they could do better. Most of them live in their parent's basements and post cynical comments to make themselves feel better, and are trying in vain to make up for all the hugs and words of encouragement they missed out on as children.
Christine...PLEASE COME BACK... I MISS YOUR MUSIC.
Bikini pubes.
Your pickin not only gets the notes, but the whole feel, drive, syncopation. The whole ball of wax. Sounds more like John than all the folks playing it in open G. great version.
Love, love love your voice.

Not to be too serious, but seriously it's been at least 10 years since I stumbled across your pickin' and I still come back frequently.
I'm with this guy. Been coming back to these videos and this one especially since I first discovered Mississippi John Hurt when I was about 23, almost 10 years ago! And to be honest, with all due respect I prefer this version over Mississippi's!
same, il prob see u again in 1-4 years
She's great, guys. But not coming back -_-. I guess it adds to the blues lore xD
Great cover from a great artist. I’m from Teoc Mississippi (where he was born) and the music community there swears by him. Glad to see good people still continuing his music. Beautiful cover from a song written nearly 100 years ago.

Brilliant. It's my morning song now. Highly recommended while having the first coffee.
Love the slightly overloaded mic, the singing and the masterful guitar playing. All comes together to make it sound awesome
Something about how you do this one works better for me than even the MJH original. You made it your own. Love it. And he camera angle is the next best thing to a TAB. One more song to learn in a long list of goals...
Really good rendition. The 1928 mjh version rolls in such an incredible way. And you got that going well.
You are knocking my socks off! Terrific singing, beautiful playing, too!!
Great picking, great singing@ Thanks.
Too beautiful for words - the song itself, and your performance of it. Thank you.
Very interesting, not playing in Spanish tuning but in standard, key of A. Clever.
Great finger style, great voice, great great great. Thanks.

Powerful. Sounds like a train.

You make me see the beauty in this music.

Only found this recently. Bravo! 👏
Another great one Chris, favourited. I like the dramatic pause ... was worried for a moment, but nothing stops you picking guitar!
Fantastic! I hope you are still playing! .... the momentary lapse makes it complete and compelling, somehow ...
@JimiChristopher The guitar was not plugged in. The mic was a Sennheiser ew 100 g3 (a wireless lapel mic) plugged into a Nikon D300s with a 14mm aspheric lens. Not so much a choice, it was the equipment that happened to be around at the moment.

One of my favs
Been studying this in open G. But this way works really well. I'm gonna study your version too methinks. Thanks.
