@@caydenjohns2440 So many family members, teachers, coaches testified to witnessing abuse and neglect from the time they were toddlers. Neighbour testified to Jose putting on child pornography after dinner when she was invited and she is not the only one who testified to him putting on pornography for guests. Cousin testified that one of the boys told her that he was being molested by the father when he was a child and she spoke to Kitty about it hoping her speaking to Kitty about it meant it would stop. Multiple Family members testified that when Jose was in one of the brothers rooms no one was allowed upstairs. Jose had pictures of the boys penises. Other witnesses testified to being at dinner when Jose would insinuate he was suspicious that Kitty had poisoned their food and he would make everyone get up and go to a restaurant. So maybe no physical evidence but the testimony was damning enough to show what monsters they were.

I had to give this video a dislike, only because I cannot stand her interviewing style. She's too biased, she keeps interrupting them, she's not interviewing them, she's just putting them on trial again! She's terrible.

I would love to hear what Barbra Walters thinks of this now. Anyone with an ounce of knowledge on psychology can easily tell their testimony was true. A child processes abuse differently and everything Erik described was spot on (naming sex different names, hoping when you die no one finds out, still loving your parents despite everything, questioning your sexuality). These boys were failed by society and they deserve a chance of freedom. I hope so much Netflix makes a documentary because that’s the only way everyone else will care.
They had 3 years to practice their testimony. Just Listen to the tapes of Dr. Oziel. Thats where they Tell the truth. Especially the Lyle one got what He deserved. Eriks only fault was that He was too much influenced by Lyle. Erik alone would have ne er killed his parents.
Well-said, Alexa. This skeleton-looking like reporter was making them look like monsters for defending themselves from their tortures abusers. She was making them feel guilty and shameful for doing the right thing. She was clearly sending a strong message to other victims not to ever try killing their abusers or they will end up like these guys. What a filthy c*** of a reporter.
Well I remember her scolding Corey Feldman for talking about sexual abuse in Hollywood too he said I'm not supposed to talk about this both Corey (Haim) and I were molested and they want me dead. She replied "you're ruining an entire industry" he said I'm sorry because that's what victims do take the blame. Corey Haim killed himself too probably trauma related. So also think of all the Weinstein victims silenced for years and those brothers were the son of a wealthy Entertainment Executive too. It's like an open secret they can flaunt their abuse they are so powerful the victim is always blamed even for reporting it certainly for self defense. It's to maintain the normalcy of it so they make an example of those who rebel or don't tolerate it.
Knowing Barbara she believed the rich white parents. Btw she was never there for her adopted daughter.

On what grounds? There’s no mystery here. The boys were sexually abused. The boys killed their parents. They admit it. The case is closed. The sentences need to be reviewed, and revised. Hopefully, they will get a review. I think we have come far enough to understand the incredible trauma that sexual abuse brings with it. Should have been a manslaughter charge. 20 years each.

None of the witnesses said they saw the sexual abuse, they only say the brothers told them about it but as we know witnesses can be bought by promises of money in return. A lot of thing contradict the sexual abuse story, for example the dad got Erik to see a therapist, why would he risk his molestation secret being exposed to a third party if therapist ask the boy what is bothering him ?
The brothers said they told relatives and friends about the sex abuse for years yet not a single of these people actively tried to help the boys after hearing about the cries for help ??
All of them said they did nothing after hearing it, how can it be ? How can you not be suspicious that they were bought by the brothers to lie ?
There were not a single shred of proof that the dad was a pedophile, the 3 photos mentioned were all debunked ... yet nowadays shallow minded people who had no idea how those photos were debunked keep bring it up like they are some sort of solid proofs ... THAT is why we need lawyers and judges to preside over cases like this, the average public people are just too shallow minded to look into all the details and too keen to jump to biased conclusions, all those petitions set up to free the brothers are a big fat joke, seriously, it shows how dumb most people are and thats reality, the world is not made of genius, the majority of humans in society are pretty shallow minded people ...
@@88feji He couldn’t tell his therapist because his parents forced him to sign a waiver in which the therapist and his parents could talk ab their conversations. OBVIOUSLY he wouldn’t give them up because he feared them so much especially his father. What do u have to say ab the 50+ witnesses testifying to abuse? Are they really ALL lying? What ab the new letter discovered in which Erik wrote to his cousin Andy about the sexual abuse? The justice system failed them because they purposely set up the second trial to convict them. Their story is heart breaking
With or without the abuse - it is time they got out. They have been in prison for over 30 years now for a domestic crime, committed wheb they were both young. They are not / were not a danger to anyone but themselves.
One thing I do struggle with about their behaviour - is the burglaries they committed before.
Theirs and the families testimony during the trial is absolutely compelling. There is far more to this than the media presented at the time.
People spend money as stress relief. So yes, in grief you can go on a shopping spree.

For rich people, they can do more like buying Rolex’s and cars or whatever. Retail therapy is very common. Your mind just buys stuff to make you feel better. In the end, they themselves said the had no idea why they did that, and they grew up watching their mom do the same. They just followed in their moms foot steps

If you are abused so young and so peristantly, you are enmeshed and you think you'll be trapped psychologically forever. And you will be until you go to therapy and completely cut ties. That can take decades.
What could they even say to their therapist.

If you look at how Lyle was crying when he was talking about the abuse he is not fake crying you can’t look like that fake crying. You should watch the court tapes before you say that they are acting. I agree with your point no way that is acting.
Child sexual abuse was very taboo back then. People didn’t want to know that a parent could have sex with their child. If that happened today, the outcome would have been much different. Walters was a product of those times. It’s disgusting to look back and see how ignorant society was then.

When I got divorced the amount of pain only led me to a shopping spree... that reaction makes perfect sense. And had my father abused me and my mother permitted it... I´d probably would´ve done the same or wished someone would´ve done it for me. I can only imagine what goes through the mind of someone who has been abused, especially in a household with so many privileges and expectations, has to deform everything inside you. I can´t believe a jury found Casey Anthony not guilty but they did with these victims... what a twisted and unfair world we live in!

The proof they gave of abuse was part of the reason both juries ended up deadlocked, along with the fact that the DA's aim for a conviction of first-degree murder caused a lot of the burden of proof to go to the prosecution, and there wasn't enough of it for jurors to come to a decision.
Considering people already tried to provide you with such evidence and tell you that watching a Kendall Rae video alone isn't enough for the "truth" yet you decided to shrug these people off, I'm hesitant to provide anything. If you see this reply and have decided to open up a bit more then I *would* provide if requested. I'm curious, though, when you said you knew more than enough about the case, where did you get your knowledge from? _Just_ a Kendall video?

However, you did not kill your parents. There are a lot of kids male and female who have been molested,beaten,starved, locked in closets for years, etc. who did not kill their parents. Lyle and Eric went on a shopping spree after brutally killing their parents. That is crazy. We cannot say that murdering your parents is okay. They made a choice. They had other options. They both together made the wrong choice. They deserve life. I hope and pray that they both repent & ask for forgiveness. I could go on and on about this. It would take too long.

They were 31 years in jail. Given their unfair 2nd trial where the judge excluded their violent childhood past, they should given the chance to appeal.

@Kaylin White I never said it was an appropriate way to deal with the abuse. But abuse messes with a person. Their father convinced the brothers that they needed him in their lives. At one point they were completely dependent on Jose and Kitty. Erik was belittled constantly, Lyle was severely emotionally stunted by piling expectations, and both received major trauma which went untreated for years. They needed to be in jail for awhile. In spare of themselves and people around them, the brothers were not emotionally ready to be completely in the outside world. They received enough jail time, in my and many others opinion. (I’m so sorry, I had a lot to say)

Of course they went out and bought businesses and cars and watches. They were trying to fill an emotional void with material things. We ALL do that. Within our budget of course. They are no less remorseful as a 19 and 21 year old victim of homosexual abuse in the late 1980s than they were confused, impulsive and rich when they murdered their parents. I feel for all in this situation. I would have preferred a death sentence to be honest.

They were 18 and 21 at the time of the killings. They weren't convicted until 7 years later and this interview took place after. Erik especially looked very young and a lot different when he was 18.

We can see by Barbara's questions and remarks that there has been a change in consciousness since that time. I can't imagine the pain of these kids, killing them was a mistake, but its so easy to put your judgement on a situation you never yourself went trough. When you parents break your spirit like that... they had it coming. And maybe they deserved it, we don't know the amount of abuse on their kids.

Erik took the lead from the very beginning of the interview. He also comes off a tad bit more outspoken than Lyle. & that face structure! ✨
She acts as judge and jury
She’s an interviewer she’s not their friend. This isn’t brunch. She is there to ask the hard questions that the world wanted to know. Also keep in mind that this was aired in 1996 so the public didn’t have extensive knowledge of sexual abuse. Especially regarding boys.
If there father did abuse them then what they did was right if my father abused me I would of done excatly what these two did who wouldn't kill there father in my opinion if its proved they did get abused then they are heros in my book

I’m not really a fan of Barbara Walter’s interviewing style. She comes off as passive aggressive and stuck up. She supposed to be unbiased but she often comes into an interview to argue with the person instead of listening to their side of the story .

If you watch the videos at court of how they were rapped by their dad is so disturbing . Some people believe every word they hear. I try not to. And I try not to let physical appearances and gestures sway me. I think the actions (not the words) of these guys make me question their credibility. People criticize Barbara Walters. She is sitting across two people who shot their parents in cold blood. We don’t know with 100% certainty whether they are telling the truth. Some people on this site act like it is a fact. The parents aren’t here to defend themselves - how convenient for the story of these young men. They were in psychotherapy - why would a father who is abusing his sons send them to a therapist - who could very likely get them to open up about their lives and negative experiences. I know it was court-ordered - but father’s idea.
The therapy was the attorney's idea. They had Erik sign a waiver anyways.

Erik’s seems severely narcissistic, he’s like a villain in a movie😮👀 He won’t even let his brother answer, he had to interject and make it all about him “I feel, I, I, I, me, me, me” and Lyle seems like he is his henchman and was his shadow.
Especially when Erik has said to the effect that he feels that the alleged abuse he endured was "his own private prison". No Erik, your actions, that being double murder, landed you and your brother in the prison system that you are now bound to. It wasn't the alleged abuse that landed you in the situation that you're in. Such a lack of self-awareness and a refusal to accept any accountability.

You're struggling with the verdict from an emotional standpoint. letting them walk free is essentially telling everyone that has been extensively sexually/mentally abused, that they can kill their parents in cold blood and not be held accountable. were the parents and everybody who knew about the abuse wrong? absolutely. however, in court it was never "proven" that there was abuse. it was speculated every strongly, yes, which is why the defense tactic worked so well the first time around. but, "the abuse excuse" is just that, an excuse. however, thats not me denying their claims to abuse
I remember growing up hearing about these kids killing their parents and how evil they must be, but I was never told how they were abused
Erik cried when they asked what his dad did he literally couldn’t speak that shows a tremendous amount of remorse they should not be in there for life it they were scared it was 12 years that he was RAPED and they are proven guilty

Well they confessed it at the trial and Erik confessed to the psychiatrist and that’s when they were ratted out.
