This is based on a true story. Later Egyptian film star Hekmet Fahmy - nowhere near as pretty as Lina Raymond - was the belly dancer, and she "entertained" Major Smith on a Nile houseboat, while the Germans photographed his briefcase's documents frantically. Later Egyptian president Anwar Sadat, a young Egyptian Army officer at the time, tried to help them, but they were eventually caught. In return for telling all they knew (and presumably helping the British) all 3 survived the war.

A good, very good film rather predictable but well acted. Strangely, or maybe not so strangely, I couldn't help thinking about the Balfour Declaration and the Nakba while watching this film. Perhaps even more strangely I couldn't help but thinking about the illegal war of aggression the UK and USA concocted in claiming Iraq's possession of weapons of mass destruction ( a lie) and the consequential killing of about a million people including women and children by mass bombing and murder, on a lie. Blair and Bush, the two main criminals in this illegal invasion and war of aggression in Iraq remain free. Further proof that neither the US adminstrations nor the UK administrations care tuppence for international law, they only care about their own wealth, power and privilege. Interestingly, Ken Follett is a 'Blairite'. However, let it not detract from the film, a very good one. Edward Bernays, Hollywood, the BBC and Reuters know all about the power of manipulating the minds of the watching public.

*_Thanks_* for the engaging upload, JW = Definitely a nicely scripted "little" WWII suspense thriller well-worth the 3+ hour viewing. 👌
A 'twisting' but very believable performance by Cliff Robertson, even if looking a bit "haggard" at only 61 years old. 👍
The only "improperly cast" role (IMHO) was the ODD decision to cast Robert Culp as otherwise brazenly "strategic" Field Marshal Rommel. 😵‍💫
Another *Bonus* to the 3 hours was frequent scenes with lovely Lina Raymond who, as coined in the film, 'An Officer And A Gentleman', regularly displayed a rather *_"bodacious set of tatas"....._* 😍 The short cameos with wonderful Anthony Quayle were also a treat!!! 😎

Culp must've heard me, lol as in the first scene he appears he has long hair and the next, short hair.... Anyone in the military or have served in the military would know this. This has the appearance of a T.V. movie? This is a 3+ hour movie. No thanks...
