I Love the Mobylette Mopeds.
I have 1962 AV48.
In top Speed is realy fast,but when the Engine is driven few kilometers,i have a Problem.
When i start from Standing (traficlight) is no Power.
I regenerated the engine.everything is new .. Camshaft bearings and gasket cilinrdre gasket head gasket.
The ignition Timing is 1,7 before top.
12millimeter Gurthner AR12 Carburator.
I changed the Main jet.
But the Problem ist Still there.
If i have just a bit climbing Situation,i have a Big Problem.
I changed also the Clutch.
Since This day i realezed Like Gear changing,what i didnt have before .
Top Speed is realy fast,arrond 60-70 kilometers per hours.
Mesured by GPS.
The Teethwhels are Original 11 and 54 ...
I have absolutely no idea whats the Problem.
Hello there. Since your engine seems sound (because of the high top speed) I think of two possible problems to check for: 1. Variator blocked (between the clutch drum and the cranck case), OR 2. Incorrect operation of the carburetor at low rpm/stationary (this works with another (smaller) jet than the main jet).
1. Can be checked by looking at the engine while accelerating (revving up) when the moped is on its stand. Then the engine should swing backward against the two springs that keep the V-belt tensioned. Another way to check this is to look at the V-belt while running over the clutch (front) pulley when revving up or closing the gas/air handle (revving down). The belt should visually be pushed up on the poulie when revving up, or slide deeper in the pulley when revving down. The variator pulley must be able to slide on the cranckshaft axle (helped by a little bit of grease !!
2. Remove the carburetor and clean it; preferably in thinner (paint solvent or acetone). Remove ALL plastic parts before cleaning with acetone as acetone will dissolve most plastics. This RUclips film will help: ruclips.net/video/OjucOmr-UIY/видео.html I clean carburetors with the help of a (jewelry) ultrasonic cleaner filled with a solvent (attention: acetone will attack the plastic case). Please let us know if one of these tips helped.
To finish: Check if air can enter the gasoline tank by the plug! This was the last problem that I had with my AV92. Now it runs perfect (but now as fast as your AV48 !!). This will choke the engine at high rpm's. Good luck. Gerard

Of course I still have it. I drive it for about 1500 km/year. I also have a Honda 150 cc motorscooter but it is more fun to drive the Mobylette. Gerard

Where is “my country”? There are (Mobylette/Motobecane/Moped forums in many countries that can guide you. I bought most parts in France (lamobylette.net solex-motobecane.com lesolex.com and more) but much can be obtained in the Netherlands too (we speak English better) like zandri.nl leertouwer.com born2brom.nl mobyletteselectparts.nl and pantin.nl (who supplies much other info on his site too; look at it!). There's exist a électronic ingnition, it's better, because there's not the dirty "condensateur" , (in french)...
why two fuel filters?
I was not 100% sure about the cleanliness of the petrol tank. Since plugging of a jet of a carburetor is very common when no filter is mounted i mounted two. Most filters (well, diesel, air etc) have a cascade like principle. Gerard
