"Handbags and Gladrags" is a song written in 1967 by Mike d'Abo, who was then the lead singer of Manfred Mann. D'Abo describes the song as "saying to a teenage girl that the way to happiness is not through being trendy. There are deeper values."[1] The first released version of the song was by Chris Farlowe in 1967, and later interpretations by Rod Stewart (1972) and Stereophonics (2000) were also commercially successful. An arrangement by Big George was the theme for The Office starting in 2001.
What a talent. The band did a fantastic version. Chris you’re still alive and people like me just really listening to you sing for the first time. Rock on Brother.
1 comment? Are you kidding me? Do you know how incredible this is? Does Chris know? Rod and Roger and Paul and Ray (and Mick) would BEG to still have these pipes! Listen to the band man, this is tight... this is unbelievably good. Chris, please come to America, you can stay with me and play the clubs in Raleigh-Durham.
Fantastic vocals from Chris Farlowe, bought this single on the Immediate label in the sixties. Watch the smile on John Prices (bass) face at 3 27. as Norman Beaker nails the guitar solo. It dosent get any better than this!!
Dang, sweet. I'm typically rock/pop but this is soulful and lovely. Arrived here by accident from Black Rooster, also just discovered and which I listened to obsessively. It did ear worm me so consider this a needed anti-dose.
still awsome, still going, still the best. No reason to stop, come on chums if he and others inspired you dig that old guitar out of the loft, or if you are young start now, love the noise, someone has to keep making it. Spud Custard
Tim Franks plays drums regularly with the Norman Beaker band, but that does look like Paul Burgess from 10cc. Can't be certain as I wasn't at that crossroads festival.
Chris is like an Oak tree. He grows more impressive as he ages. The man has got soul and blues in his blood. He is the mighty Oak!
Chris Farlowe soul man indeed. .
Chris Farlowe is one of the greatest , so underrated and still going strong
Absolutely
I thought it was rubbish. Have the original single which beats all others. We all get old.@@tonytownend2564

... saw him with Atomic Rooster in Wilhelmshaven, later with Colosseum in Germany. My all time greatest blues voice !
Voice still commanding, he looks better than in the 60's.

Wow Classic!
Written by Band of Angels and future Manfred Mann frontman Mike D'Abo. Though his demo wasn't issued at the time.
Smokin' band
What a performance , yes a performance, not some no-mark singing along to some lack lustre computerised backing track
Brilliant
Chris, big hug, your version was much better than Rod's..
