As soon as I saw the title for the recipe I thought uh oh. Most use hamburger and if she does they are going to rake her over the coals! You DID say cottage pie but I am southern and we say shepherds pie as well. Yes I know it’s not correct but it’s just what we say. Not critical issue!
Guys, please watch the first minute of the video where I mentioned this is technically cottage pie but in the US, we know this as Shepards pie regardless if it’s made with lamb or beef (and most use beef). No need to harp on it it’s not that serious it’s a yummy recipe regardless!

I made this on Sunday evening and. IT WAS FANTASTIC. I had some leftover gravy that I also added as well as the stock, and that really brought it to a beautiful delicious looking texture. After all the years of making this, it was the first time I had used flour, and I thought it was a great addition. I'll be out shopping again today, and will be buying more mince beef because I will definitely definitely make this again, and would make a nice pot of thick gravy to add to it as well and will also cook the carrots and the celery before putting them in. Once again it was really delicious and I will definitely be making it again, and I am so sorry you had nasty comments made to you. It was nasty and uncalled for. Anyone who hasn't made this. Try making it, I can promise from a satisfied Sunday dinner that you will not be disappointed and will be rushing for seconds

I like to substitute a third of the carrots by parsnip. but in general this dish is very forgiving. You can clean out your fridge and add many meats and vegetables. Last week I had leftover cooked brussel sprouts and some leftover bacon mixed into the meat mix. Yummie.

Traditionally, shepherd's pie doesn't contain any tomato product (I sometimes add some in mine though), just amp up the flavour with beef stock. A trick from my Grandma is to add a bit more flour to the beef and then more stock to get lots of gravy. Use a slotted spoon when transferring the meat mixture into the dish so you can save that gravy to pour on top later!
My family are not into "pies" of any sort but I adore them... especially cottage/shepherd's. Love this recipe, making some for myself as soon as I can. Yep. Full fat mash! No other way. Cheers from Melbourne 😘
We are doing non traditional holiday foods this year. We did Puerto Rican food for Thanksgiving. Im considering a cottage pie for Christmas. I don't know what else to have with it though.
In Quebec, we do a version with layers of creamed corn, ground beef and mashed potatoes. So the can of corn isn't a bad idea at all ;) This looks absolutely fab!
I’m 100% positive that this would taste so much better than the version I had growing up, our shepards pie was always ground beef on the bottom, a mix of canned and creamed corn in the middle, and mashed potatoes on top. Any other vegetables were blasphemous! 😂
Paté chinois is terrible. The worst is if mom is in a hurry and the onions are not well cooked. Ketchup was the only thing that helped and I do not like ketchup. My spoiled privilege behind detested it.

Im also keep carrots in freezer. Cut to chunks, dices, sliced very convenient. Celery too.
