When I first delved into polymer clay,I tried several kinds and found Super Sculpey beige to be the best for me. The texture is just right and it is more durable than most when used correctly and I love that you can paint it when finished baking 👍
If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of paint do you use? I use water based acrylic paint, but I keep seeing little blobs and random brush strokes. 😕
@@WetWookie1988 after watching and trying to learn the water based acrylic are the paint of choice..maybe use less water.? Have you ever watched Ace of Clay….I’ve been learning a lot from him.
Apologies for the somewhat long post, but I would like to ask you for some technical information so that I can make better use of the polymeric pastes I have recently started working with: 1- is it strictly necessary to use turpentine or 91% isopropyl alcohol to smooth and remove defects from the sculpture still to be fired? Is it possible, as an alternative, to use natural products other than solvents whose fumes can be annoying? 2- If I preliminarily heat an area of the super sculpture with a heat gun (before firing it in the kiln), I notice that it becomes brittle, especially the thin parts; how can I glue the pieces that come off? Should I use a special glue or turpentine? I bought 'sculpey oven-bake clay adhesive', but I think the pieces will only stay firmly together after baking them in the oven. 3- I have noticed that various artists always use raking tools to roughen the surfaces of the sculpture. Why is such a step necessary if they then have to be sanded? 4- Are you by any chance familiar with the product "MOD PODGE matte-mat-mate"? If I understand correctly, it should be applied to the fired sculpture to remove imperfections. However, since it remains sticky, once cured, it is required to apply a clear acrylic sealer. Can you recommend a suitable one? 5- Can you confirm that once baked, the super sculpey sculpture (even the super sculpey firm) is brittle? Should I mix it with Cosclay? In what percentages? 6- Can super sculpey sculptures be used for replicas with resins in silicone moulds? If so, do you have an example video for making a copy? Thank you very much for your availability.
I get what you mean about not wanting to work with something that doesn't have fumes. Ethanol bothers my nose too but it IS a natural substance. It's produced by microbes as they process sugars. Nothing unnatural about it.
Can I add acrylics in order to change the color before shaping? (painting afterwards often leaves some stripes, well one can see it's painted and I wanna avoid this)
This explains so much about American culture, way past video games. Great video, and I will definitely be reading that book. Actually I expected the link to take me to Amazon or an info page, not straight up download it right away, thank you.
Paul, can the clay be saved? I bought some and stored several un opened packages and now they are hard as a rock. Do I just take a loss and go buy new ones? Seems that could be very costly...
You can work to condition them in small bits at a time, and you could also try adding a very small amount of either Sculpey Oven Bake Clay Softener (www.sculpey.com/products/oven-bake-clay-softener-2-oz) or Sculpey Clay Softener and Thinner and work it in until the clay is the consistency you like. (Be sure to work with very small amounts at first until you have a feel for it!)
Hi! I'm new to polymer clay sculpting and I'm a bit confused. I want to create a very, very detailed sculpture so I thought I should go with the firm clay. But then you said not to use it for the entire sculpture. So should I do the sculpture with regular super Sculpey and then add the firm clay as a top layer? Will it adhere well to the regular clay under it? Also in my country there is not the option for the regular gray super sculpey, so I would have to go with the beige one. Will it work? Thanks a lot for your help and for this video. It's greatly appreciated.
How well does Sculpey adhere to other mediums such as glass, plastics (dolls) or porcelain? I have several of these but bought air dry to try & add features to some face up dolls.
I think my original sculpy was messed up I opened one and it was firm but soft to get great blends. Then I got another pack of the exact same package and it is so hard and crumbly
Heating up the clay would make it harder as the curing process would start. We have clay softener that can help make the clay softer www.sculpey.com/products/sculpey-liquid-clay-softener
Hi, I just subscribed loved your information. I have a question I you tube how to make homemade polymer clay? I came across an older man that is a educated chemical knowledge man. Anyway, he did state the lease expensive way is to buy silk screen ink and add Kaylen clay and you have your polymer clay. What do you think have you tried this? Kathy from Cali😎

Does anyone else think that super sculpey doll version smells like actually plastic dolls 😅🤷🏻♀️.. I didn’t expect that at all, I have worked around with lots of different polymer clay.
I think skin color mentioning clay is more about the translucent property of the clay than the color itself. Stop with the race/color of your skin. And if you don't like this product, go buy something else. STOP with the complains and put the effort like everybody else that we are striving to survive this life.

Agreed. It doesn't crack as easily. And yes, it's great to paint on.
4:09 that was the unmistakable sound of the well known important tiny metal thing falling which we all know youre never going to find again lol
Thank you Sir! I had no idea that there were so many varieties and they have purpose.
Thanks for sharing! It would be so helpful if you guys could reply to the questions in the comments please! ❤️
As I was reading the comments while listening to the video, I was rather surprised that no questions about the products were answered.
I've been looking for this information for over a year. Thanks!
I love super sculpey beige. I haven't tried the living doll clay yet. I love all sculpey products.
I love living doll. I got a bunch of Firm, but I think I'd go back to living doll after that.
This was such a great video, especially for a beginner like myself. Thank you!!
Ahhhh, this is great info! Thank you! Also, I am now craving starburst candy SO BAD!

Is there a tip to help poly foam molds to release without breaking your project?
Grey medium and or firm!
What would you suggest to use for something like nature sculpting (tree's, creeks) things like that?
Can I add acrylics in order to change the color before shaping? (painting afterwards often leaves some stripes, well one can see it's painted and I wanna avoid this)

Perfect clay. Can you please tell me difference between living doll and fimo clay?
Can you bond the firm clay to the regular super suclpey?
When you bake then bake again…do you go the whole length of time on the first bake as in the final?
Thank you for this great video! I want to buy a polymore clay but i was confused what to get
I just bought the Super Sculpey firm. Hope it'll be fine.

Which clay do you use to make Christmas tree 🎄 decorations and gift tags? 🎁 Thank you. Valerie.

How do i fix my super sculpey grey getting hard, its too hard now
Great video. Thank you. I’m wanting to do a chess set in the theme of Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Any tips?
super helpful. I was so unsure which to get before watching this.
I have weak hands, whats the softest one?
I think my original sculpy was messed up I opened one and it was firm but soft to get great blends. Then I got another pack of the exact same package and it is so hard and crumbly
Mine too came dry and crumbled
Can I ask where you got that rake? That's exactly the one I'm looking for.
Thank you
P.
I have fingerprints deep as the Grand Canyon 😅 would the medium or firm make them less apparent?
alcohol or baby oil. brush it on and it will remove fingerprints and smooth the surface.
Can you help me, I have one But it’s dry now ,how can I fix it to become soft ??
Get sculpey clay softener
Do you heat up the polymer clay to make it malleable. I purchased a pound of Super Sculpey from amazon, it's hard as a rock.
Heating up the clay would make it harder as the curing process would start. We have clay softener that can help make the clay softer www.sculpey.com/products/sculpey-liquid-clay-softener
Mine came hard is that mean it’s bad or do I have to work if
what about original sculpey? I just bought some at Michael's. does anyone know which it is?
Thank you for this...
I will go for Firm Sculpey.. 🙌🙌

Great info. Which one is the strongest and less likely to break?
He said the soft ones are less likely to break
I might need this (the gray one) for sculpting custom figures and such (inspired by Wakeangel2001)
Price of this clay
How does the strength of these all compare after baking?
softer clays bake stronger then the harder clays
Why still no available in Philippines

Great info, thanks!
do you bake the firm sculpey gray clay after making a piece?
He said something about baking it in the video
yes. Unless the clay specifically says air dry on the package, you'll be baking it.
9:55 *literally baby*
Thank you

Ridiculous comment
