Hi there I’ve just subscribed great videos, your jade video you say you can pop your stem cutting dipped in rooting powder then straight into soil but how soon after that should you water? Or should you water it straight away ? Cheers
@@user-ig3um1qe7k thanks. Water straight away. The soil needs to be moist
This is the first video on propagating jade cuttings that was so easy for me to understand!
I can trim my beloved jade without guilt! Lol
Great video’s! Ty!
Glad it was helpful!
My jade plant was left behind by a student don't know much about them it's growing tho it's long and only 2 steams but growing tall so glad I watched your video fingers crossed 🤞 I will give it ago and prune it
You’ve got this ✊
I am so glad you showed us about the feature on a phone to identify a plant, this is so useful and ready on demand. It is Fabolous for plant lovers thank you
Glad it helped 👌
I’ve been propagating 4 or 5 jade leaves for months now. They all have little “balls” of leaves on them. At first the main leaf started to shrivel up, but recently they all plumped up and are really healthy!
It takes ages doesn't it? Very satisfying when it starts to resemble a plant!
Mine is the same took months but now they growing quiet nice .Worth the wait and the main leaf is still not dead
How are you rooting the leaves ?!
@@BerylBerry me I just put it in compost let nature do the rest
@@SheffieldMadePlantsdo you know a free app we can use to identify plants?
Oh you are a lovely man, just been given some cuttings of a jade tree so this was so handy. Potted up and awaiting fruitful growth. ❤
Perfect!
I just got my answer to my last question. Thanks always. Love and Peace.
It's a pleasure to watch your videos
Thanks!
Thanks Richard. ❤
I have a jade plant I inherited from my Dad but it has gotten a bit leggy so was hoping to reinvigorate it and try to make some new plants. Thanks for this video, you have given me the confidence to do it with less fear of killing the orginial
My pleasure 👍
I’m doing the same, how are your cuttings doing?
I dont know whether I have a super healthy, mutant Jade, but I take cuttings and plop them into soil right away as is, and they do just fine. Also, I lay the leaves directly on top of the soil, and voila.. most of them start to root. I do NOT have a green thumb. Guess it just plain loves me haha 💚
I think it does 😁
@@SheffieldMadePlants Right? 😆💚🙌
My jade plant is the same. One leaf has just been sat on top of the soil. It's been months, but there's a tiny plant ball growing 😊
@@NushC777 Isn't it great? Our Jades must love us..🤭
Thank you so much!!
You bet!
طريقة ناجحة شكرا
My pleasure 😊
Super!! How unthinking am I. Use a tote box as a starting box!!
Thank you for this.
You bet!
Takes for ever with single leafs but worth the wait i think i have to many growing now ...stems grow very quick
Tell me about it!
I wish you'd show us how the plant looks 4 weeks later
💚
They are amazingly easy to propogate! All my jade plants are from small cuttings ive taken from the box store 12 inch jade pots 😂
Probably set me back 2 years than if i just bought the $5 4 inch jade plants, but im a cheap queen. The only jade in my collection that i actually paid for is my variegated ogre ear jade and ive got 8 varieties.
Definitely so easy to prop 👍
Nothing wrong with being thrifty!
So you are proud of your stealing plants. Yes!! It's called stealing. You should be ashamed.
I use honey & cinnamon as a rooting hormone it has worked for my pothos and snake plant
👍👍👍
Yes good for someone on a budget!
honey works amazingly for rooting
I loved the video! It was really helpful. Thank you so much for posting it I really appreciate your efforts !
My pleasure 😊
💜💜
I love those hot water heaters in Euro homes. I wish we had them in America instead of dirty dry forced air heat.
My problem is what to do with all of the cutting after pruning my jades. Everyone I know has all of the jades they want to have, thanks to me. Sadly, they may end up in the trash or composted.
👍👍👍
I really appreciate your videos. Do you pot this from your propagating box straight into the soil mix this plant (or others that you propagate) prefer as their final home or do you have an inbetween soil mix?
Thank you. I go straight into soil.
You answered my question about the propagation box using perlite. I’m assuming I will need to keep the perlite moist, correct?
Yes moist but not looking at the bottom
Should I let it callus over for 3 days? I keep seeing different answers and I scrolled down your video comments and didn’t see the answer! - TIA 😋 keep up the great work I binge your videos all day lol
No need for 3 days. A few hours to be safe but I never do
@@SheffieldMadePlants perfect thanks for the quick reply!!!
Hi! Just wondering what those other cuttings in your prop box are with the beautiful white variegation? 😍😍
Pothos njoy. Nice plant
Great video, thanks! I cut my Jade plant and only got 1 new shoot instead of 2. Did I do something wrong? What percentage of the time do 2 shoots develop instead of 1? Thanks!
You got unlucky I'd say. I've always had two
@@SheffieldMadePlants Thanks!
When you repot jade plants, can you bury them deep in a bigger pot, like tomato plants? Or do they have to be kept to the existing soil level?
Many thanks
Great video
Keep them at existing soil level to avoid rot of the stem
Thank you, most plants are this way I guess.
I need to repot my jade I suspect the soil I'm using is not suitable. Can you advise what soil mixture you make for your jade?
Hello. Something nice and airy. 3 parts potting soil or compost and 2 parts perlite would do the trick. That’s what I put my succulents in.
@@SheffieldMadePlants Sweet! Thanks mate.
I have a y shaped cutting with no leaves on the trunk or the lower part of the stems. Do I have to cut it into two pieces up to the point where the leaves start or can I plant it without taking off leaves and will it grow roots from the old nodes that have no leaves?
No need to cut I don’t think
Question ..your propagation tote..does it have air holes?? Do u keep it covered all the time??
As always appreciate your help.
Thank you .
Marilyn
No holes and I keep it covered. I’ll probably open it every couple of days to air and check on progress. The high humidity helps the cuttings
I have 2 cuttings and they seem to be growing well as new leaves on the top. I would like to encourage the trunk to grow nice and thick do you have a video on that? Regards from Canada
That comes from pruning regularly
Thanks will be cutting this weekend.@@SheffieldMadePlants
This is one plant I have struggled with. I find broken jade leaves that have broken off in my big box stores, I bring them home to allow them to calius over and put them in a glass vessel with water. I allow the leaves to grow roots which they typically do and grow to a length of 2-3" inches then pot them up in some catus mix. My last two leaves that rooted and I potted up ended up dying. The leaves shriveled up and the roots didn't take. IDK what I am doing wrong. I did find a few more leaves at another big box store we frequently shop at and those two are sitting in a glass vessel with water waiting to grow roots.
On a side note and worth mentioning, a trick or tip I recently learned is to take a jar and cover the top with clear saran wrap, poke a small hole in the top and push the leaves through the hole. Only the tip of the leaf where the roots come from are in the water.
Would love some advice or tips you can give so my rooted leaves survive in the soil and eventually grow sucecessfully into a new plant.
Hard to say what’s going wrong. Have you got a grow light? Might need nurturing a bit while it’s growing new leaves. The watering has to be right too
I have had this issue with water propagation too, the only thing that seemed to help was making sure the soil was wet when you put the leafs in and then water them more often than a normal jade plant until they get used to having less water. Just watch out for rot. Good luck!
Jade can form water roots, but the transition from water to soil is very intense for the plants. In all likelihood ALL of those water roots just died and rotted the second they were asked to take to soil.
Jade is so easy to propogate in soil already, I think the water stage just adds more difficulty to the process unlike what it does with a pothos or monstera.
Your jade will look dehydrated, but just water it when it is 100% dried out and eventually it'll plump up almost overnight.
I do that with foil instead of plastic wrap.
Hello from near Peterborough, Ontario, Canada...your video makes the most sense to me thus far in regards to propagating Jade plants, so I've subscribed to your channel :) May I ask what you named your Follow Up video for this video please?
Thanks for watching 😁. I've not actually made a follow up video yet 😅
How do you know when the propogated plant is strong enough to plant into soil?
A couple of inches of roots will do it
hi! is it 100% perlite? thanks
That’s right
will this also work with crassula arborescens?
Yep
I found it difficult to know how much water to add to the perlite, any tip on how to think?
Nice and moist but not pooling at the bottom is my target
Can you put them straight into soil when u put rooting powder on them
Yep they're very easy to root in all kinds
Are those perlite for propagating thanks
Yep
So … I tried making my own propagation box and sadly my leaves rotted after a little over a week, although they’re still firm. How often should I open the lid to let it breathe?
Maybe every 3 days
What medium do you use in your propagation box?
Perlite
I kept my Jade (crassula) cutting in my box, in a small pot, around 15 days back. I think, i should keep my box in indirect sunlight. Your views please
Yes out of direct light but still good light
When you rooted up, do you try to get the pearlite off of the roots?
Nope absolutely no need. Perlite is good in soil. If it was moss then yes you need to get that off
@@SheffieldMadePlants thank you! I absolutely love your channel.
Thank you 😁
Do you visit it within those weeks and water them?
Yes when the soil dries top up with water
Hi. Will they root down in water at all.
Yep
I repotted my jade plant do I need to wait to water it? I had it seven days without water and repotted it.
I'd give it a drink to moisten the soil when repotting and the water normally after that
Thank you
What are your cuttings being propagated in?
Perlite. Great for propagation in a propagation box
I tried having a leaf from my jade and put that in succulent soil and watered but it died. Can you help me how to propogate jade
What went wrong? Did it get lots of light and not too much water?
I have a jade plant which i have just looked at the roots of it. And it has all matted up together like a clay pot. Can i rske cuttings from the plant still if the whole olant has died
Yes very easy to propagate. You can even propagate the leaves nice and easy
@@SheffieldMadePlants has the main plant though died on me
@@lionofjudah4114 hard to day without seeing it. Try repotting it and nurturing it back to life
I took stem cuttings 17 days ago. After 3 days I put them in soil. I left more leaves than you and they are extremely soggy now. Should I remove more leaves now or is it too late? Should I water the soil? I dont want to lose them.
I let it callous for three days before planting. Was that wrong?
If it's just the leaves getting soggy i'd remove them
Sheffield United back to the premier league... congrats
😁
How long did it take to root the leaves?
Maybe 3 or 4 weeks
Okay I’m going to try it ! Thanks for the information 💚
I use cellophane over my plants like this.. especially some plants in the winter.. cellophane and/or glass / plastic jars 🫙:)
That’ll work 👍😁
Do we need to callus the cuttings before putting into soil
Yes that’s a safe bet but I don’t bother
Not me sitting thinking who needs that many Jade plants in their life...whilst remembering the prop box of all the same succulent leaves...there are 11 of them...
😂
I must have missed what you used for your probation box container.
Perlite!
Jade plants don't like that much moisture so could be better to not have it in a sealed tub
Works for me
HELP my jade plant is acting like a pothos
😂 how?
Careful I recently discovered those are toxic. I was interested in the jade because of how easy it would be to turn into a bonsai plant, but just be ware that they’re apparently highly toxic. I’m no expert on how easily it could affect you, but it makes me nervous seeing you use your bare hands.
@@artrosear like I said, I have no idea how the poison is transferred, but I consider anything that’s toxic and in liquid form as toxic as touching bleach.
What do you use in your propagation box?
Never mind I saw it is perlite in a previous post. Keep the videos coming I enjoy learning many of your techniques. Thank you for sharing your experiences.
