He dedicated this song to his father who died when he was 12 years old due to cancer. His dad taught him that the world has no bounderies. His mother died a year later when he was 13, due to a cardiac arrest. Before his dad passed, Joost was already writing all kinds of stuff and promised one day he was going to go to the Eurovision and he did 🥹

This contest turned into a total shitshow today. Italy leaked voting numbers and Joost Klein wasn't allowed to perform for the judges today. And for once I'm on the side of the conspiracy theories. The makers of the show want Israel to win. It's so obvious. They're sponsored by a company from Israel. During a press conference Joost Klein pulled the Dutch flag over his head when the press was asking the Israeli candidate questions. They asked her if she thought she was bringing other people at the contest in danger being from Israel and all. Someone from Eurovision said she didn't have to answer the question if she didn't want to. Joost Klein said from under the flag: Why not? And now all of a sudden there's a wild story that Joost hit a (Israeli) photographer that supposedly said something about Joost's dad. Joost was getting too popular. Seems a bit too convenient there is now a 'Joost incident'.

You guys haven't missed Eurovision lol. Eurovision starts with two semi-finals, one on Tuesday and another on Thursday, and then has the finals on Saturday, where the winners from the semi-finals, the five most paying countries (the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy) and the previous year's winner (Sweden) compete for the win. There are no rounds prior to the semi-finals.

I think the reason why you find so many european songs weird is because of how differently music evolved in both continents so it’s totally normal for you both to find it weird.
Like my mother used to listen to death metal and techno while living in the USSR, most were fine with that as everyone had bigger concerns with the shit going on. And meanwhile, in the USA i believe that the culture of the self and how you appear to others must have heavily stopped those style of musics from getting popular, being more experimental with the ways to express yourself was probably seen as very weird and therefor prevented from getting developped
another exemple would be how most of the non europeans or asians i know listen to more "normal" styles meanwhile most of the europeans and asians i know all listen to some types of experimental musics

I usually love watching your guys's reactions but this was a bit rude (then again I'm just rly upset about the whole eurovision debacle). I am from the US, but thankfully moved to the Netherlands when I was 8, you really should do a bit of research and you'd see that the Netherlands is a great country with plenty of things to offer, regardless I'm also a big fan of Eurovision, but this year with all the Israeli shit and Joost Klein conveniently getting wrongfully disqualified, it was just shit, I didn't even bother to watch it.

Coming from Americans who have zero clue about the world or have zero interest in other languages apart from English. There are windmills here yes and some do smoke a lot but it's not typical Dutch. Look at the MV with lyrics maybe you will get some of the song then. Either way it's supposed to be a ironic fun song with a deeper meaning intertwined
