Good, nice and cheap. We review the most economical automatic diver watch on the market, with a quality that surprises for its price. If you forgive that design that emulates the Submariner, the rest is but very well.

I purchased my Invicta Men's 8926 Pro Diver back in 2018 for $48.00. I can relax while wearing it because it's low cost. I smashed the crystal once and replaced it myself for $7. I weld and process firewood with it on. It still keeps excellent time though it's now scratched up. I'm 75 years old and it's the best watch I've ever owned.

I have been a fan of Invicta for many years. They are, by far, the best bang for your buck in the watch world. Most watches, even the very high end don’t cost a lot to produce. A $12,000 Rolex costs about $350 to produce and this Invicta sells for about $90 and costs roughly $45 to produce. Thank you for your honesty I really enjoyed this video!

Spot on, so rather than making some brands 'splain their affordability, instead the question we really should be asking is... how do the so-called 'Premium' brands *_justify_* their outrageous expense? And does a watch costing literally _hundreds_ of times the price of an Invicta, also _deliver_ 'hundreds of times' more Value?

My first automatic wrist watch was an Invicta 8926OB with a Miyota movement in 2008 after I graduated from college. It's still ticking +10spd 13 years later. I bought my second 8926OB in 2016 with the NH35A movement, which I've regulated down to about +5spd and popped on a green sub bezel insert to look similar to a Lunnette Verde Sub. I also completely brushed the bracelet to make it more of a tool watch. Very sharp watch. I still wear my Invictas in place of my Omegas and Rolexes in many occasions, such as work, shopping, swimming, cruise ship or away vacation.

I prefer Grand Divers, no Rollie copy, better crystal, larger case and 300m WR, solid end links, better bracelet and, unlike Seiko, no misalignment issues, not to mention the great price.
AliEx brands (Pagani, et al) are probably most competitive, same movement but usually sapphire and ceramic used, but they've been very hit and mostly miss, for me. Bracelets are often abysmal.
I still don't understand why people can't handle the case side engraving, lol. Invicta isn't the only brand to do so, and unless one is ashamed of what they bought, the dislike is bizarre.
It's the brand that kicked off my hobby, nearly 20 years ago. My first diver from them, with a Miyota movement, still runs perfectly, two decades on. I've expanded into well over 50 other brands, from affordable to pricey, but Invicta is still the brand that makes me smile.
Glad to see some new opinion makers lately, recognizing the value they offer. 👍

Grand diver is too damned large for a lot of us.

    • @135ipocketrocket2
      @135ipocketrocket2 Год назад +1

@@robc8468 While I can appreciate passing up on a watch that just doesn't fit properly, it's a shame about size perception in many cases, and what some just "think" is too large. My first watch was a 39.5mm, but once I tried on a 47mm, I was sold on larger watches, and anything under 42mm is like wearing a child's watch, and, although I've made some exceptions in rare instances, I won't go under 40mm. I've passed on the Tudor BB simply because it's too small at 39mm, in how it fits my 7.25 inch wrist.
It's just weird, I'll see YT watch reviewers actually try on a supposedly large watch that looks perfect, yet they'll say they won't wear it because it's "too big," lol. Meanwhile they will showcase a sub-40mm piece as ideal, while it looks comically small on them. Considering average male wrist size is 7.5 inches, a Grand Diver is more than suitable for many who just overlook it based on some nonsense (not saying that applies to you at all, I'm just speaking in general). I have even seen women wearing it, who just like the look of a bigger piece.
The new 50mm Rolex is abhorred by some for no other reason than case size, but it's great to see it resulting in some enthusiasts actually admitting they like a bigger watch. An extreme example, sure, but clearly there's no law on case size, is my point.
Even small wristed men can wear larger watches. If the case overhangs the wrist edges, lug to lug, it's less appropriate, and perhaps better avoided, but brands can excel at making form fitting 45mm plus case designs. Invicta actually makes some much bigger watches that still fit perfectly thanks to downturned lug design. I was shocked that one of their Akula models is a crazy seeming 58mm, yet is as wrist hugging as a 43mm (a size itself that some decry as huge, wth?!). Many high end brands continue to make what are thought to be big watches, even despite the smaller trend of late.
If someone has a much tinier than average wrist, I get it, sure, but a lot of it seems a bizarre bias of just thinking something is too big when it's not (the odd "dinner plate" criticism), and that's unfortunate. I really prefer wrist presence, despite not having a bigger than average perch for my watches, although 45mm to 48mm is probably my favorite range.
But saying it's too "dammed large" makes it sound like a 70mm, LOL. I doubt it's too large in reality, in most cases, other than one's own bias from a non-existent rule about what constitutes "too" big.

I think that the Invicta is fantastic value for money, and whilst I too was a little put off by the logo engraved on the case, it is scarcely visible when worn, and I think it's a very honest way of exclaiming 'I may look like a Submariner, but I'm not. This logo and the very distinctive wings on the dial say so.' I now really like these features! In other words, what I admire about this watch is that it's not a meticulously executed Rolex copy (which I wouldn't buy) but a well made homage to a fantastic design, and one that's proud to distinguish itself very openly. And if it packs up, then I'll buy another one. As I said, I love it, and I concur with your excellent assessment. Thank you! 😊

Understanding how these brands, Invicta, Pagani Design, etc, are able to offer these watches at rock bottom prices is key. Accepting the minor QC issues, and not minding the blatant copying these companies do, and most people don't care, it is next to impossible to compete. The world of homages has exploded and it is expanding at an exponential rate. I myself own a few of these homages and all, with 1 exception, have been terrific. At the end of the day, these are terrific watches for the money. These watches also help bring many more people into our horology world, and that's a good thing.

I have been wearing Invicta's Grand Divers since about 2008, and I love them! I am a really big guy, at 6'6", and 340 lbs. I played American football from my middle school days until I was a pretty nasty injury to my left leg ended my playing days. I have a 23 cm wrist ( 9 inches ) and unless I am going out to a very nice restaurant or to a large corporate event, I wear one of my Grand Divers...or one of my other larger watches.
I know some of the guys and ladies, that do watch reviews, think that watch sizes should stop at 42 mm...but they don't understand that smaller watches look way too small, more like a childs watch, if you have a much larger wrist. They have called larger watches a "fad"... but...larger watches have been around for at least 20 years...which means they aren't a fad. The " Pet Rock" was a fad in the 1970's...it was a popular when I was in high school...and after that Christmas it disappeared. That's a fad.

I recently sold my old pro diver 8926 which had Miyota movement. I had it for 10 years and took it into the ocean, the desert and everything my backyard would throw at it, all without so much as a hiccup. It's a fantastic tool watch, beater, daily wear, whatever you need it for. For the price it cannot be beat, but I do have the same grievance with the logo engraving. ;)

Well done and fair review. I have always liked the Invicta 42mm Prodiver 21978 automatic, however, I would much prefere that the crystal be upgraded to sapphire. I would gladly pay more for this upgraded on the crystal. In any case, this watch is hard to beat, especially when you can pick it up for less than $70.00 US. Its a very well built watch with a high quality and workhorse Seiko NH35A automatic movement. I even can appreciate the Invicta logo ethced into the side of the case which is a very sore point for some collectors. This, in my opinion, is an Invicta idiosyncracy that offers it's own special charm . . . either you like it or you don't! 😎

For me the 8926OB is so cheap that it makes a cost effective parts source for custom builds. The bezels (if you get the correct version, it can be laborious to get that right) are some of the best feeling and working available and many standard parts fit them. The cases (with various etchings removed) are better than every case I've bought separately to evaluate. They are also rated at 200M while most others are 100M.
I like building in the vintage military style, and these parts work great for that. A Seiko movement that can be adjusted and regulated to chronometer specification is just icing on the cake.
I almost always set them up with a nato strap of various royal regiment colors. They can even pull off the Seamaster vibe with a little machining to the case.

    • @jameshisself9324
      @jameshisself9324 Год назад

@@trappingthetime Yes, 'mods' is an understatement though since I'm fully rebuilding the movements, adjusting jewels, pivots and anything else to specification, regulating them for accuracy, machining the cases and using dials that make them unrecognizable. I've found a few global sources for bezel inserts and dials that positively transform these. Unfortunately Invicta's brand reputation is what it is (great value but very inexpensive) so I can't help but remove all of that. Firstly for my own edification, and then for resale value once I move them on down the road to make room for more builds.
I definitely agree, you get far more than you pay for with these.

I make custom knives as a hobby so i have an excellent 72" belt grinder which i used to remove the logo off the side of the watch and then re-brushed EVERYTHING so it's nice and uniform and quite frankly, much closer to the finish found on a rolex.

The only diver that rivals this one price-wise is the Orient Ray 2 on a rubber strap, but only when it's on sale.
On Black Friday it was just about under 100 EUROs in my country (ROmania). But it's on a rubber strap, which is already a disadvantage for the Orient. Not to mention it doesn't have a display back or a cyclops.
So the Invicta is truly the most watch you get for the money.
If you go slightly higher in price, Invicta even has some open-heart divers and even some skeletonized "specialty" divers.

But the Pro Diver got me into watches and I’m a big fan, owning 6, only the two tone has the original band, and I’m on my second one. The first being worn hard and almost exclusively until the clasp failed on a cliff jump. And even now, owning several much more expensive watches, the Pro Divers stay in my rotation. My favorite being the 1953 Batman Bezel. It’s got a cleaner look and the build quality is noticeably better.

I’ve got a Batman bezel Wave Master, which I think is still under the Pro Diver family, if not, than back to just 6, lol. My only complaint on that is, the crown doesn’t screw down. Well, for something more well made, I have heard very good things about Steeldive, the Addiesdive (Watch Dives) brand most famous for producing a Seiko 6105-8110 homage, their SD1970. They also prefer the NH35A movement, but they have a good reputation for case finishing, if not quite to the standard of a Seiko Prospex original or modern variant of the "Captain Willard" shape. Regardless, they do make a Submariner homage that I have been curious about and if you want something competitive with this Invicta, it may be worth consideration.

We already have the SteelDive 1970, one of the best watches I have (untill I accidentally dropped it on the floor) It was 1 sec delay per day, no one of my watches, even those 20 times expensier, achieved that fantastic delay. Now, we all know about the quality control of chinese pieces, so... when are you buying a bad one? never know. Some people say they put it into the water and it died. But you know... for the price, I think you can take that risk of having a Cap Willard homage. Thank you for the comment. Cheers!!

I have the 9937ob, swiss sellita sw200-1 auto +3 seconds a day, thinner depth case 12mm, chunkier solid bracelet with milled clasp and solid end links, flame fusion crystal (thin layer of sapphire on top of mineral) and smaller engraving.. $170 on Jomashop.. I love this watch!.

You have the 1953 with no engraving on the case. Hope you enjoy that 9937. I think 170$ for a watch like that is an amazing price.

@@trappingthetime thanks, and if you ever fancy having a look for yourself, then Joma have them still.. they always have a sale on too lol.. think the 9937 was $165 last time I was there.. I'm goint to mod it a little with a "Batman" ceramic insert and proper ceramic too asap.. got the parts.. but no tools! grrr :(

Interesting review. I recently bought a quartz pro diver from Amazon for the princely sum of £44, blue dial and bezel, and I have to say I was impressed with the quality. First time I wore it outside someone asked if it was a ‘knock-off’ Rolex. That for me is the eternal problem with these ‘homage’ watches and why I always try to wear more original designs, or at least something not trying to hard to copy another watch.

The average person can't afford a Rolex so I wouldn't be ashamed to say "yes it's a replica!"

Great review. It's nice to see an honest review of Invicta instead of the usual watch snobbery trashing it just because it has that name badge. The truth is that Invicta is one of the largest watch sellers on the planet and can't be beaten for the money. They have thousands of styles that range form the absurdly ugly to watches that rival Rolex, Omega and Breitling in appearance. I own ten of these in different colors and case sizes and they have been taken in the ocean, hiking... and are perfect. Invicta's business model is high volume/low margin whereas luxury brands are the opposite. They also avoid the middleman for the most part in their distribution model. That alone cuts out a normally sizeable markup. A $10,000 watch is not necessarily "better", but rather different and costs more. Bottom line is that they both tell time. When ego and status are removed from the equation, it actually makes more sense to buy something reasonably priced (not cheap) and use the money elsewhere. If Rolex, Omega, Tag removed their name badges and all identifying branding, no one would buy them. At the end of the day, it's really about personal style and choice regardless of price.

I bought this watch and I hated the band but the overall look of the watch I loved very beautiful, I gifted it to my brother he loves it , I'm still looking for the exact sprite bezel but in the grand diver which has solid end links and a very comfortable high quality ss strap, say what you want about invicta their builds are great value, and they got something for every quirky situation 😂 I got 10 of em love them all worry free wearable watches that's the thing , not looking at it in a case worried to take it out lol

I'd put it on a black seatbelt style nato, functional, it'll suit the watch and you won't get those gaps where the end links go.

I don't get the Invicta haters. The company is brilliant in offering watches for an enormous range of tastes. Sure, I wince when I see a watch that is huge and ostentatious but who really cares? Some people love them. I bought my son an Invicta resembling an Omega Seamaster for his first watch. It's stunning. I bought the Invicta 1953 for myself. The restraint in execution on my watch is commendable and the watch is beautiful and elegant. Accuracy, superb. I have some very expensive watches. I just sold my Omega Speedmaster I've had since 1969 for $8000. The bracelet was crap compared to the Invictas. Invicta has a huge challenge beating on their door with watches from Pagani, San Martin etc. Let's see what they do next...

Wow, what a curious story man! Lets see what Invicta is gonna do against those monsters... Do you think if you buy a new Speedmaster you will find the band a crap? Thank you for comment such an interesting story. Enjoy your watches!! Cheers!
