- In this video, we show you a very easy method of perfectly levelling your garden pond by using concrete blocks.
Levelling a pond is one of the most important parts when it comes to pond building. We highly recommend the use of a laser level to ensure the perfect level for the entire pond edge.
Cement is 4:1 ratio, sharp sand mix with plastersiser. Ensure the mix is not runny or the blocks will just squeeze the cement out. Also, use a sharp sand mix for the joints.
Block levelling will help to reduce ground subsidence because of their size and spread weight. Larger stones may need more support inc building a wall.

Forgot our pond used to look like that. Great job guys. Was a pleasure having you round and the pond is looking amazing.
Cheers Steve will have a full video soon!
Thanks so much for this video. I've just followed all your steps and successfully re-done my pond with a lovely level edge and a decent plant shelf. I've even impressed myself with how good it came out when I filled the water right up to the top with no spill over all round.
Aaah nice to hear glad we can help it’s a really easy way to level edge especially if you do not need to support a heavy load cheers for the comment
I'm so glad I found this video! I've been stuck at this point in my pond build.
The edges look really good. What size are the concrete blocks? How do you prevent damage of the liner by the edges of the blocks? Thicker fleece?
Cheers for the comment. They are just standard high dense blocks from Travis. Underlay then the liner on top. Important when the pond fills you leave enough slack so the weight of the water doesn’t pull down on the liner to stretch it, that causes the most damage.
Thanks for video. Can you tell me what to do if the wall of my pond I’m building broke away with a big gap? When I’ve finished digging it I’ll cover it in sand so will sand even the sides out and any other bumps and gaps? Thanks
If there is a hole on the side of the pond, sand isn’t ideal, you can use a heavy cement / sharp sand mix (small gravel) so it’s sticky. You can trowel it in and smooth it off it should hold into place
what if you wanted to build a low retaining wall off it say 2 foot tall ?
It’s depends on the weight and type of ground tbh, it may need more foundations to be safe if the blocks are flat it may be ok aswell as the weight is spread better
U don't lay concrete blocks just on soil and what about your cement leaching into pond
I a bricklayer .not good advice . Cowboys
Lol it’s not for building a wall off it, physics and spread weight perhaps you should learn about it. Cement is treated
@@thep0ndman not the point should always have footings been doing my job 40 years . People take your advice .just like your bottom drain advice . You chat shit .
