I watched JCB's pot hole Pro machine working today in Recreation road in Longford Coventry. It was absolutely fantastic quick and efficient and the complete road was finished in less than six hours. Very innovated engineering from JCB Bravo.

Looks like a very impressive machine but the main thing I learned from this video is that if all road gangs worked as professionally and as efficiently as this off camera then the pothole problem would be much less to begin with.

This is all very well but here in Nottinghamshire and neighbouring Leicestershire, contractors save a lot of time by not cutting out the loose edges of the pothole, not preparing the surface, not filling the hole properly and not compacting the finished repair. There's no way that machine can compete with that methodology.

Can we get a yearly update on the pothole? Thanks

  • @studebaker4217

That isn't a pothole, it's a substantial repair. Most damaging potholes are 1 sqft, and the human would cope, but even this JCB wouldn't.

If you read up on it...or watch other demo vids....the machine has attachments and can deal with the small pots too.
And faster, and with a longer lasting result.
I can only judge our areas quality of repairs they do by hand....they don't even bother cutting a clean edge...or rarely dig out anything.
They just pack a load of shite in...whacker plate it down....
And it's all washed out and broken...back to a lethal pothole again within a few weeks.
Then it gets reported again...then months goes by and they return to do the same bullshit repair.
      Total false economy.
Trouble is the council will use the cheapest contractors...and as all trades we know the saying....pay peanuts you'll get monkeys.
Might as well fill the holes with peanuts or monkey shit.
Probably last longer than the repairs around our area.
      Absolute JOKE

Having worked on the highways with my local council, and repairing pot holes I know first hand how labour intensive it can be and when news came of this I were interested in seeing it at work, having watched this lol I'll say that every council needs these :)

12 square feet isn't a job for manual labour. Get a small milling machine and a road sweeper instead. The JCB is a handy tool though!

exactly that's more a comparison, but having everything on one machine can make it quicker

Means that all these guys will loose their job???
If we have a look at this machine presentation video, this does not settle the pothole issues,???
The machine is faster, that's for sure, but both resolves the pothole , so what is the questioning of this test, .

Sucks that we won't have workers breaking their backs using jackhammers 40 hrs a week? Seems like the type of job we'd want to eliminate. Plus construction is booming, another job won't be hard to find.
