Wow, where can one start to comment. I am humbled just to view the chapel, let alone stand in the same place. It is forebears such as Bede, who lived lives full of efforts and labours, for his people in his time, and for us, we who followed; efforts of faith, of script, without vanity or self glory, simply to serve, God and man. Such people call me, us, to do likewise with our lives. Our Late Queen Elizabeth lived a life of service, until the very end, and in so doing set us a similar example. My parents were such an example to me, and many others I have come across also. How can we enjoy the fruits of others past works with a clear conscience and peace of mind, unless we serve from our capacity in like manner from where we stand today ? Thank you Alice, truly humbling, and lovely to see you dressed like a lady in a sacred space. Bless you.
Not to seem irreverent or disrespectful of Bede but the light, illuminating your face is unmatchable. Alice - if we ever meet - there's a question that would go an' ask you !
Many thanks for this sublime and inspiring video. Tragically, the Venerable Bede's adjoining monastery at Jarrow was destroyed together with 900 other British monasteries between 1536 -1541 A. D. on orders of Henry 8th and supervised by Thomas Cromwell (great great grand uncle of Oliver Cromwell, and likewise dynastic mercenary hired for the ongoing mission of subverting Christendom). Furthermore, subsequent legislation made it illegal for the monasteries to be repaired, and that they should remain in a permanent state of decrepitude, as a visible testimony of corporate and state power over the church that continues to this day The scale of the devastation can be seen via drone footage of Britain's abbeys, that is easily available on You Tube. However, Henry actions assisted laying the way for the English Protestant reformation, which was so necessary a step for mankind's progression. The Catholic Church was in many places, particularly Rome, a bloated, fetid, pustulant boil on humanity. What you see today as the Catholic Church was not was it was then. The Protestant reformation acted upon the Catholic Church to clean it up to some degree. Imagine us living today under the superstition, oppressive dictates, corruption, graft and bribery that it was then. So it had to go. Sadly, the architecture was collateral but necessary damage.
The Protestant Reformation was the logical outcome of Papism, because the Pope was in fact the first Protestant, since he protested against the divinely instituted authority of the Church Councils as practised & handed down by the Holy Apostles, to be preserved ever since in Orthodox Christianity, the Universal Faith of undivided Christendom during the First Millenium. The Pope of Rome was the first to protest against this Faith in 1054, and the rest of the West followed suit approximately 500 years later. So what you have now in Protestantism, is as many 'infallible' Popes as there are Protestants, each one interpreting Scripture according to their own individualistic secular agendas. Furthermore, the destruction of the 800 British monasteries was not the only collateral damage of the so called Reformation. The real target was the holiness enshrined in the relics of the thousands of British saints that were housed in these monasteries, that presented a real spiritual obstacle for Henry's financiers - the Luciferian bankers of Antwerp - who wanted to extend their occult base of operations to Britain and thereafter to the rest of the world. Which rather than making Henry VIII a contributor to "progress of humanity", actually makes him one of secret history's most useful idiots. As well as "a 'bloated, fetid and pustulent boil" in his own right, in what was once one of the most holiest nations in Christendom. So all you Brits out there seek out and reclaim this REAL heritage of yours, because evil - including the so called 'necessary' variety exemplified by the actions of losers like Henry VIII - has no objective ontological existence of its own, but is in fact, a parasite feeding off everything that is beautiful, true and divine.

Bede was the star of the early medieval period.

I would rather have my eyes pecked out by birds, then get completely ripped off by the undertaker. That seems much more of a violation of my corpse.
Make sense pls🤣🇺🇸
Its almost like God was cleaning house. Took away old habits, beliefs, cleared the decks allowing new thought to spring up and take root.
