    Thanks to you I recently bought Castles of Burgundy (the colourful revised edition). We've been playing it 4 days in a row since. It' so addictive! It's so enjoyable and rewarding to get to know the mechanisms and to discover the strategies!
    Also by Stefan Feld: in Bruges (where I'm planning to move to), of which I just ordered the very last copy there was to be found.
    And in winter sales I came across Ethnos (minus €12!), which I also ordered with your comments in mind.
    Your channel is very helpful to me indeed! Thanks again!

      Thanks Braiden! Now we just need a better pandemic setup (ie. Source monitor) so I don't have to do tons of test shots each time to make sure I'm in focus before I shoot the real thing. Haha 😅

    Not only is this video super helpful in deciding which one of these is more for me (I might like both, but I don't think I have the money and space to buy and own both), it also comes with wisdom gained from a different media industry (video games) that is COMPLETELY relevant, AND it finishes off with a wrestling reference in the best possible way to answer the question posed by the video title. Absolutely marvelous.

    I’ve only just seen this video now, but have to add that I love it!! ❤️ I have been enjoying COB on BGA and I really want to buy it, and after seeing this comparison I can definitely say that I am the type of person that Castles of Tuscany is made for, so I want that one too! Also I really enjoyed your analogies 😂 thank you for that…love your humour.

    My husband and I just started playing Castles of Burgundy and as an amateur board gamer, I found it easy to catch onto and LOVE IT. The more new games I learn, the easier and funner learning gets :)

      That's great to hear! Burgundy is sooooo good. And that means the more new games you learn, the closer you are to being ready for Carlo to teach you Cloudspire. ;)

    I loved this analysis having never played either game. I subscribed thinking it's nice to have this detailed review that isn't too worried about humor...
    .. then at 14:45 I don't think I've laughed harder at a game review!

    Saw this video mentioned on Reddit! I'm just getting into board games and there's just so much stuff to choose from O_O Definitely getting Castles of Burgundy after this review, rolling dice and that random factor just gets me so hyped!

    Just got burgundy and have only played two games VS my mom 😅. Anyway only after two games played I think castles of burgundy is epic. It was little daunting while taking apart all the components and reading what tiles where expansions and separating black tiles, reading the slightly confusing instructions but after you play 1 or two rounds of the first phase you learn real fast. The game is epic with paths to take for scoring and blocking peoples dice. It’s just a great game.

    Great video! Thank you for going over the similarities and differences between these 2 games - and actually moderating neutrally. This is the best video of its kind! I never really thought about how the games were connected before!

    I have both, and picked up Tuscany as a warm up for my wife before I introduce her to Burgundy.

    • @AllYouCanBoard

      That's great, that's a formula for success, I'd say. It will be a lot easier to learn Burgundy if you already know the mechanics from Tuscany. Not that either one is necessarily overly hard to learn, but that should definitely help. Thanks for watching!

    I recently designed a 3D-printable insert and dice tower for the original printing of The Castles of Burgundy.
    Increase fun and reduce setup and teardown time :D
    models can be found on printables (for free of course)

    10:33 Maybe if you don’t have as much time?! I assume Tuscany plays quicker than Burgundy, without the board, correct?

  • @JJ_TheGreat
    @JJ_TheGreat Год назад

    10:33 Also, personally, I don’t know when you would ever want to play CoB: The Card Game. If I want a different experience - or if I don’t have time for the main Castles of Burgundy game, then I would play CoB: The Dice Game or Castles of Tuscany. CoB: The Card Game doesn’t do anything which would make me want to play it over the Burgundy Board Game (even though the dice on the cards is kind of cool, in theory - because once you get to “know” the cards, you will know which die and number value is on which card. Also, the Card Game even takes up as much space as the board game, so there is no benefit there. Again, I would rather play Tuscany than Burgundy: The Card Game, almost every time.

    Burgundy is a truly brilliant game but after buying Tuscany and playing it a bunch, I ended up selling Burgundy because for me, Tuscany ticks every box Burgundy does but in half the time so it just makes it feel more conventient and smoother to play.
    Also, FFVII is my favourite game and am currently playing it through again for the umpteenth time (at the point of catching my first Chocobo to avoid the Midgar Zolem).

    • @AllYouCanBoard
      @AllYouCanBoard  3 года назад

      That's super interesting! While I still personally prefer Burgundy and if I had to get rid of one of them, would probably get rid of Tuscany at this point, I can 100% see why someone may feel the other way and keep Tuscany. It's quicker and still scratches that itch!
      Also, Final Fantasy VII is basically my entire childhood. I could talk about it for days, haha. It's ever-so-slightly eclipsed by Final Fantasy IX for me still, but man is it still good. I played through it all again about a month or two ago actually. Make sure you come back and kill the Midgar Zolom when you're strong enough for sweet, sweet revenge. (And the Beta Enemy Skill!)

    Castles of Tuscany is simpler. It has a lesser weight, therefore, easier for newer gamers or younger kids to play. Tuscany is a family weight game.

    I don't really agree with your conclusion about getting burgundy before Tuscany or that people who don't like burgundy won't like Tuscany. On modern gaming there is a growing trend towards valuing playability. Game length and complexity are key factors in that regard along with player count flexibility. Tuscany is achieving on all three fronts, and in my opinion should be compared to other light euros like Carcassonne, Azul, Ticket to Ride, and Splendor before it is compared to something like Burgundy. It's s noteworthy comparison but not an entirely constructive one for the basis of a review.
