@Livinia1 Not unfair to poor people, it’s unfair to SMART people. Those who can do well on the test and add that as an advantage to their portfolio. Poor people are more likely to apply and get in because of the costs of the test

It’s the only part of the admissions process where you can’t commit fraud (or is very very hard to) and isn’t unfair to low income students. Extracurriculars take money. You don’t know who really wrote the essays, whether it was a college counselor. And how is a public school counselor who is responsible for 500 students going to write a personal recommendation vs. a counselor from a small private school? The application process favors the wealthy. The SAT/ACT tests help point out gifted low income students. Every school should bring back the requirement.

Another failed progressive-left policy. Stanford is admitting by its action that adequate academic preparation for college is necessary and that such tests are an effective tool for gauging that preparation. In other words, the traditional way is the best way.

actually studies prove grades are a better indicator of success nd that test scores are an indicator of wealth since wealthy students just get tutors and have the ability to see doctors to get extra time notes lol so you are wrong!

I applied to Stanford as a transfer student in 2022. Thought it was fantastic that they didn’t require testing, but they *required* a letter from my last commanding officer, someone I haven’t spoken to in years. After jumping through hurdles, I apply and find out that Stanford would not accept any of my regional college credit because the courses were taken online.
