In this video, different distance and range sensing technologies are
discussed including inductive, capacitive, ultrasound, and mmWave. This
will be followed by a deep dive into optical time-of-flight technology. The
    deep dive will go over:
    * key benifits when using the technology
    * the flexibility that comes with optical time-of-flight technology
    * prime applications for using optical ToF

could you please give me a link in which I can get a more detail description of direct and indirect ToF? It is required for my project work.

How to assure that light from transmitter will be received by the receiver??? How to assure the fired light will back to receiver?

Most surfaces tend to be diffuse or pseudo-Lambertian scattering reflectors, so there will always be some percentage of light that comes directly back to the sensor. Things that fail are shiny smooth surfaces or mirror reflectors that will bounce the light pulses away, and yes, you'll get holes in the depth reconstruction on those surfaces.

For optical time of flight, how is a timing clock generated and such a high frequency to be able to detect a phase shift that might be billionths or trillionths of a second or less?

Excellent question, my friend. No one has ever been able to answer it correctly for me.

What would be its maximum range ? will it able to sense the trees and mountains ?
