So to anyone willing to try this, I figured out a few tips that might help: -doesn't work on nylon strings -you can use a regular plastic pen, and rub it till the plastic gets rough (else it will sound very quiet) -i dunno if this applies to violin, but if you go high pitch you have to press gently, and lower you have to do it harder -try not to hit your guitar by going too far in (that sounds weird)
I feel like people don't treasure this man enough. His playing is insanely intricate, creative, and innovative. Guitarists of the future will be looking to him for inspiration.

U even need to modify your guitar pegs to out-tune it.. I tried everything to banjo tuners to Bass tuners and even made my guitar look like a robot ffs.. and also tabs aren't available.. so I just listen it by ear..
Probably late to reply, but it's a combinations of two factors: high shutter speed of the camera (1/500 - 1/1000s, probably) and rolling shutter effect, when frame is scanned from top to bottom,.

Sorry it's not a trick that's just how the camera shows it at 30fps unless the string's frequency was a multiple of 30HZ the frame rate will be out of sync and show visible oscillation. Don't know why you brought that up though he was clearly talking about playing a guitar with a stick.

Step1:-Open that camera app and make a shutter speed as low as you can between 1/8000 to 1/16000 Step2:-you will need a strong lights yeah a very strong lights otherwise get outdoor in sunlight Step3:-"YOU SHOULD HOLD A MOBILE IN PORTRAIT position" Thats all Or simply you should test your default camera app see how:- simply go outside in sunny day and try shooting video in portrait position Note-You should make a 90° angle between camera shutter and strings👍🏻

Ariel Barraza - The video is shot most likely at 24 frames (photos) per second and the b string vibrates at about 247 hz (vibrations per second). This means the string is vibrating just a over 10 times the frame rate of the video, this means the string will appear to only vibrate less then once per second.

Nah fr that's me rn, I have a guitar my neighbor gave me but the strings are so old so it sounds awful if u play it like a guitar but it IS in tune, and I want to do a thing like. Tagelharpa but obviously I can't spend money on that. I was thinking of trying to use it with my lyre at first since it's similar but then I remembered the guitar I have. I hate playing most of the instruments my mom has collected for me lmfao but I love making music so I might as well play it a way that I'll enjoy instead of letting them get dusty XD
@@jppd0657 Sound travels in waves, and when a camera captures the string's movement, the resulting video produces a much lower frame per second count than your eyes can capture. Think- slow motion. Due to the speed of the vibrations, your eye typically won't catch the movement at a casual glance. In other words, the wavelength of the note being played on the vibrating string manifests itself in a visual manner when recorded on camera. If you're lucky, you can see this same effect with your own eyes while playing on occasion.

@@Listen_bros it's the same thing as helicopters having no rotation on video, it's because it lined up somewhat with the frame rate of the video in reality the movement of the string is so much faster than what the camera can pick up so it now looks like a wave motion. Though I'm not 100% sure.
The most impressive was 1) his fingerstyle combined with using the body as a drum. 2) seeing him change the pitch by tuning the guitar mid-song. Smart asf.

Flint Kts an effect that the camera gives the string. The tuning probably has the string a bit loose since this doesn’t sound entirely standard. So yeah, watch some of Acoustic Trenches, the lowest string will shake like the San Andreas fault gave way
@@meowif2572 assuming it's not a CG effect in this case, that means that the frequency that the string is vibrating at is precisely out of synch with the frame-rate of the camera... I assume that different lengths of strings and different tuning tensions will make a difference since it's not the note that's playing but the speed the string moves that creates the effect. Do you know if there is a way to guarantee that visual effect? I'm sure that there is an equation that we can enter the string length and tuning and get an ideal frame-rate or vice-versa but I'm not good enough at math to do the footwork... Has someone else done it already?
@@SeekerGoldstone literally it's just frequencies. Its called the shutter illusion, and can also be seen with things like airplane props when filmed or photographed. You just need to have the shutter speed or the frequency of your camera set close to or at a similar frequency, or at an exact fraction such as half of the frequency of the vibrating object

When a guitar string is recorded while be struck it makes that wiggle effect, the same for propellers on a plane, it has a weird effect
I felt the same, It is freaking magical why can I see the vibration wave of thar string, I do believe is FX an string that wave like this doesn’t sound like that, I will try to use the stick😇
Ariel Barraza - The video is shot most likely at 24 frames (photos) per second and the b string vibrates at about 247 hz (vibrations per second). This means the string is vibrating just a over 10 times the frame rate of the video, this means the string will appear to only vibrate less then once per second.

Nah fr that's me rn, I have a guitar my neighbor gave me but the strings are so old so it sounds awful if u play it like a guitar but it IS in tune, and I want to do a thing like. Tagelharpa but obviously I can't spend money on that. I was thinking of trying to use it with my lyre at first since it's similar but then I remembered the guitar I have. I hate playing most of the instruments my mom has collected for me lmfao but I love making music so I might as well play it a way that I'll enjoy instead of letting them get dusty XD

@@jppd0657 Sound travels in waves, and when a camera captures the string's movement, the resulting video produces a much lower frame per second count than your eyes can capture. Think- slow motion. Due to the speed of the vibrations, your eye typically won't catch the movement at a casual glance. In other words, the wavelength of the note being played on the vibrating string manifests itself in a visual manner when recorded on camera. If you're lucky, you can see this same effect with your own eyes while playing on occasion.

@@Listen_bros it's the same thing as helicopters having no rotation on video, it's because it lined up somewhat with the frame rate of the video in reality the movement of the string is so much faster than what the camera can pick up so it now looks like a wave motion. Though I'm not 100% sure.

Flint Kts an effect that the camera gives the string. The tuning probably has the string a bit loose since this doesn’t sound entirely standard. So yeah, watch some of Acoustic Trenches, the lowest string will shake like the San Andreas fault gave way
@@meowif2572 assuming it's not a CG effect in this case, that means that the frequency that the string is vibrating at is precisely out of synch with the frame-rate of the camera...
I assume that different lengths of strings and different tuning tensions will make a difference since it's not the note that's playing but the speed the string moves that creates the effect.
Do you know if there is a way to guarantee that visual effect? I'm sure that there is an equation that we can enter the string length and tuning and get an ideal frame-rate or vice-versa but I'm not good enough at math to do the footwork... Has someone else done it already?

@@SeekerGoldstone literally it's just frequencies. Its called the shutter illusion, and can also be seen with things like airplane props when filmed or photographed. You just need to have the shutter speed or the frequency of your camera set close to or at a similar frequency, or at an exact fraction such as half of the frequency of the vibrating object
