Twice my Dad took my sister and I to the city dump in Nairobi, Kenya and pretended to throw us away after I had almost burned down the house and my sister (my ride or die till today) assisted me in putting out the fire and trying as best we could to cover it up. I am 36 now and I recently asked my Dad why he'd traumatize us like that and he looked at me all calm and asked "did you ever misbehave again?" We never did to those levels again! Level of parenting: 1 million

Great interview. Love Kumail and the movie "The big sick". It was so funny and captivating. It also gave me some insight into how there is discrimination in all cultures. His family doesn`t want him to marry a white non-muslim girl for example, even though they are living in the US.

A comedian in the US writes a routine and then repeats it for an entire year performing in every US city while pretending that he's not sick of his life. It's actually a very boring job. We laugh. They don't.

Jinns are considered a different species that remain invisible for the most part, they can be good or bad and even be of different religions. Ifrit is the word used for bad jinns, who harm humans and/or have sided with devil. So muslim kids grow up believing in jinns and still do even as adults. We are not told of jinns as story but as a fact. In islam, devil(shaitan) is of jinn specie but that does not make other jinns devils as well. FYI that's why he refused to bow to adam , he thought he was superior because he was made of fire... He believed angels made of light and humans made of clay were beneath him and if God made him leader of angels while being a jin then why should he bow to a clay made person.

Bollywood is indeed a disgrace, almost all their movies are plaigrised, as is the music and they're really bad at copying too. There's some good artists like Rajkumar Hirani, Aamir khan, AR Rahman etc. but the vast majority are complete hacks.

"Disgrace" is too strong of a world, but it's indeed frustrating that Bollywood has hindered the growth of a genuine "artistic" Indian cinema (the New Wave showed promises, and ideally should have left such a legacy that would have given the likes of Om Puri - RIP - and Shah "quality roles", but it was suffocated by the "masala").
Of course all Indian cinema is not Bollywood (thankfully), but it's Bollywood which happens to be the "face" of Indian cinema in the world, sadly.
