Kath has developed quite the boat handling skill. Dang, that 'narrows' part _definitely_ earned that name! I'm split between saying _someone else_ can drive the boat through there & thinking how much my ego would enjoy it if I did it myself successfully. :D
It’s amazing that even a little drizzle on a cold wet day can’t dampen the spirits of the glorious wonderful rays of sunshine that you emit through your videos. Another wonderful blog and it’s been such a beautiful journey 😍
It's time you turned the boat round, Ladies! But what makes Llangollen beautiful is its World Heritage Site and its hilly Welsh countryside! I went to Llangollen Basin last summer on my narrowboat with my family, and I used to go walking up Castell Dinas Bran from there and it was a good walk. Thanks for your video, I really loved it.
That was absolutely lovely. I’ve loved seeing your journey on the Llangollen. I had no idea it would be so gorgeous. I love the music you choose for your vlogs. You really do make wonderful vlogs - so beautifully filmed and edited. Thank you for sharing this with us x
Great vlog, fond memories of that place. The Narrows are fun. The corn mill is a great place too. So glad you went along that canal to it’s end. Llangollen is a great town in the summer as well. A busy town with lots going on, then back to the boat for some peace and quiet. Well done my favourite narrowboat girls.👍
Lovely video... I took a hire boat up there a couple of years ago in the height of the season. The narrows are not much fun, I also found reversing into the pontoon moorings very difficult even after a week of getting to know the boat. Still, I am sure that like me you found the scenery and sense of achievement made it all worthwhile.
Lovely video ladies. A fabulous place. If you look at the rocks alongside the narrows, they were all cut out by hand. You will love the Horseshoe Falls.
Well this evening I have viewed the two aqueducts and now the Llangollen. I have walked there and seen the horse drawn boat and stayed at The Berywyn Hotel and travelled on the preserved railway, Magic moments. The water on one visit was so clear you could see leaves settled on the slate/ rock bottom of canal. Many thanks again for the memory
Your trip has brought back some beautiful memories of family holidays and the first holiday my wife and I took together (52 years ago) Thank you both not forgetting the cat's.
Beautiful just beautiful! We've officially started our Narrow boat savings fund now! Woohoo. Your both a big inspiration, thank you for sharing your journey with us!
That looked lovely. What a great set up for mooring, I’ve never seen anything like that on the canal before. Those narrows look like a challenge. I’d probably set off to cruise through them at 5am! Thanks as always for sharing your adventure.
Yes, I'm like you I'd prefer to do them really early. There's also an aqueduct tour boat to avoid, but they keep to a schedule. In Autumn we encountered no-one- but the canal was also shutting for lock work- so it might have been quieter than usual.
thank you both as came in to the basin that small ilset sticking out with the end of navigation on the left I was turning round and the wind blew me mid ships it took ages to get off it-s very shallow on the left you are right it is beautiful in summer and the horse drawn day boat magick KORF
I loved that - walked along there long ago. The narrows seeed to go on for miles - think I would've been nervous despite having a scout gone on ahead! I think Anna has now come under Wales' spell - you love it rain or shine - have just been out for a walk up the mountain in the wind and rain and come back happy and refreshed!
@@TheNarrowboatExperience haha! Yes - you love her whatever! - it was when you said it would've been nice to go out on the boats even today (and not just in the summer - when it's just as likely to be raining anyway!)
I have just had a look at the same route on Google Streetview. Someone cycled along the towpath filming it all in 360 degrees (you can see him when he had to lower the camera to pass under the low bridges). It looks stunning on Google (filmed in summer), but looked equally stunning in winter in your video. I have always had a fascination for the canals of the UK (as a 15 year-old back in the mid 70's I spent a week in summer helping to restore the Caen Hill flight of locks on the Kennet & Avon, & in '77 a camping/sailing/rowing/being towed holiday down the Thames in a Mirror 10 dinghy , but never managed a cruise in a narrowboat. Watching your narrowboat experience has rekindled the idea that maybe next time I am in the UK a long trip exploring the canals is in order. In the meantime your videos are something to look forward to and enjoy (when you are enjoying it) or commiserate (when you are not). Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
I always lose a bit of blacking on the narrows approaching Llangollen. Hope you had a good time there. It’s beautiful but hard work against the current. Better to do it off season like you did than in the middle of summer when it’s rammed. Thanks for another wonderful video x
It's changed quite a lot since I was last there 20 years ago. I'll be heading that way again at some point. You must visit Castle Dinas Bran. The views are stunning.
The boats you mentioned are the ones towed by the horses and the canal from the bason to the falls is too shallow for narrowboats only the towed ones can go up, there is a little car museum up there as well
Sunday is the new Vixenday. With a cup of tea and a slice of toast, I'm ready for the Vixencast. Never disappointed. Lovely little trip up the "squeaky bottom" narrows. Not somewhere you want to be in summer, pandemonium. Very beautiful thou. Yes, those carriages are horse drawn. Took my kids on them a few times. Not so sure they were taking in the view me and their mother were, more interested in the "produce" and noise at the rear of the horse. Hey ho!! Still, there was always an ice cream to look forward to on the return journey, kids, easily pleased and placated. Keep warm, keep smiling keep vlogging. Hope your both well. xx
Hi girls glad your back . I look forward to your videos. Also your interaction with each other as you travel the waterways. But more importantly for me my homesickness. You don't know what you have until you leave. Anyway thanks again and be safe.

Hi you two, and the cats, an excellent vlog as usual. The narrows are very narrow, wise move to send a member of your team ahead to ensure nothing is coming!! You could always reverse and leave her stranded!! Excellent reversing into the mooring and great to see the cats out and stretching their legs. So where to next? See you next Sunday 💁💁🐈🐈🎉
I walked down there just the other day. I have family in Llangollen they have a house on the horseshoe pass. I would recommend the Dee Side Bistro for lunch it’s just a short walk down from where you are. Loving the videos.

Very lovely - but I would hate to be outside in the cold rain. (I used to be a mailman and that was always the worst days to be walking my route). Since you have the option, why not just wait for sunny days?
Yes, we do wait for sunny days and non windy days. However, we were on a time frame as the canal was shutting down and selfishly wanted some electricity.
Very nice video ladies. (I need a kneeling/bowing emoji. lol ) I have a question, it may just be the difference in our languages but I have noticed that you pronounce Llangollen like it has a c or k in it... the Llan glock len? So am I misunderstanding the way you pronounce it? No matter, it was a great adventure and I for one am glad you took us along for the trip. 🎉 👍
Sadly, as an American I can only walk along side the few canal paths we have over here. No long boats as far as I know. Silly question time: How come narrow boats do not have bow thrusters? I understand that a certain ships pattern is adhered to, but bow thrusters are below the waterline and unseen, and do come in handy to swing a vessel around.
Hi Gene, many of the longer narrowboats do have bowthrusters, usually if they are ove 60 foot then bowthrusters are either retro fitted or fitted as standard, and as you say, they can be a godsend, especially in windy conditions as with a low draft, narrowboats tend to get blown sideways by a slight breeze which makes maneuvering interesting!
We visited the Llangollen canal in 2009 and it was amazing we went on the horse drawn boats and went over the aqueduct. Great video
Thank you
I came here from CruisingTheCut. The Music in your Videos is great. It really adds to the video. This is becoming one of my favorite channels.

I have been to Llangollen at least a dozen times but I'd never heard of the narrows before! Fascinating!
They are indeed 'narrow'.
The Llangollen is stunning. Thank you for sharing. Loved it when Alice exited the boat by the fender!

Lots of very very noisy ducks in the basin, but I didn't see the one you are referring to.
@@TheNarrowboatExperience I think we were very lucky. I think the acoustics in the "basin" magnify the sound of the ducks conversing 😀

Yes, in Welsh the double L is pronounced c or k- so phonetically clangoclan- but the 'c' is more in line with a German sound.
Why is the canal beyond the basin no entry? It shows on the CRT map as being navigable and I'm sure CHG went as far as the motor museum.
That would be a long way to reverse.
I want to see England on a narrowboat with cats!
