One thing you missed with link. In soul calibur 2, there was a weapon system where you could unlock different weapons for each character. Many of link's most famous swords were represented along with the shields. Master, razor, helix, etc
Cloud for the Smash entry works even more as a special guest because Nintendo (as of this video) has never had FFVII on their system where as we got Twin Snakes back in 2004. Cheers if you are watching this video in 2019
I loved that Link was in Soul Calibur because he had the Master, sword of evil's bane. A good substitute for Soul Calibur against Soul Edge or could atleast hold back its influence.

I had also never heard Soul Caliber/Blade/Edge until 2 was announced, and I actually chose the gamecube version to get as a kid specifically because Link was in it lol
I had Soul Blade on PS1 (great game) Soul Calibur on Dreamcast (the arcade hardware was basically a dreamcast so its a perfect port) and Soul Calibur 2 on Xbox. Spawn was a great character that really fit in with this dysfunctional assortment of misfits. Because his weapon was a 1 handed battle axe he didn't really play like any other character. Link could easily use an existing character like Sophitia as a base and then add a few signature moves to set him apart. There really wasn't anyone that fought like Spawn. Even Heihachi could easily be compared to Voldo without the claws or the insanity. I just feel that of the 3 bonus characters Spawn added the most to his respective game.
same here. never heard of the series till Soul Calibur 2 came out. my friends would not stop talking about the game. I ended up with the PS2 version. I miss that game. :(
I'd heard of Soul Calibur because I'd encountered the arcade version Soul Edge. I was lucky enough that I had the Gamecube version, too, as I personally think that Link was the best available character for a weapons-based fighting game. Spawn was alright, but Heihachi was a stupid choice, IMO. Cloud would've been a far better choice for PlayStation.
Since Nintendo has promoted Fire Emblem as one of their tent pole franchises, maybe in the next Soulcalibur game Bandai Namco could have a Nintendo exclusive character from FE.
That would be sick, it would most likely be Marth. If not, or maybe if they decide to put in 2 FE characters, someone like Ike, Roy, Chrom would be in since they are amongst the most popular in FE.
+Milo Lopez Same, having Ike would be awesome, but at the same time, I feel like some different FE characters should get the spot, what I mean by that is not have characters that are already in Smash. Someone like Chrom would be cool, he would finally get his chance lol. Still, I would still love if we get any FE characters in general. Hell, Nintendo should team with Namco to make their own Soul Caliber styled FE game, I mean, there's many different classes in FE that making an FE fighting game with characters from all the games could definitely work. Heck it could even have a story mode, a story mode that portrays to each characters backgrounds and the events they went through.
Penguin Village (Where Arale lives) is indeed part of the Dragon Ball universe, my guy. All of Toriyama's series share the same universe. They may take place at differing points in time, but they are indeed part of the same timeline.
I've played lots of sc2 recently, and can say without a doubt that link, nightmare and yoshimitsu all have that same voice actor haha. To the point where when nightmare/ yoshimitsu gets hit I actually laugh
Rash fits perfectly. Rash may be a frog but he's one badass brawler that'll make his foes crumble to pieces with his iron fist. I wish and hope that he makes it to SSB games.
Lars Alexandersson in Naruto Shippuden Ultimate Ninja Storm 2 :D He appear in the game in his alternate costume from Tekken 6 that was created by Masashi Kishimoto himself. So, it fits as well. Not to mention, he was the protagonist in Tekken 6. Man, he was so f*cking badass in the game. People love him, that he was always modded to the newer game
"To be clear, Superman doesn't technically have a specific magic vulnerability. He is not MORE vulnerable to magic than other people. It's just that he has no special defenses against magic, and thus, something that would magically affect a typical person would also affect Superman. Sometimes, writers (especially Justice League of America writers) so desperate for something to slow Superman down would often act as if magic was a special problem for Superman. It is not."
I still don't see why Cloud is in Smash Bros. Every other character has had a game they were in on a Nintendo console. Megaman, Sonic, Pac-Man, Ryu, and even Bayonata and Snake have had games on Nintendo systems (Snake even had games on the NES. Thier not canon, but still). The only game that Cloud was in before this (to my knowledge) was Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories, where he had a bit part and a playing card. I get why he's here (new remake coming up and Final Fantasy was once Nintendo owned) but I don't get WHY he's here. Why not have Firion or Terra or someone who was on a Nintnedo system like the GBA or DS.
Because unlike Firion and Terra, Cloud is an absurdly iconic character. Anybody who's even somewhat interested in video games knows who he is, so to choose any other character from Final Fantasy could have potentially caused huge upsets.
I guess that's a good point. Still, don't think having a Playstation character represent the early days of Nintendo is such a good idea. Just my opinion.
WRFM PaRaDoX I assume that you mean Theatrhyhm. To be fair, I did forget about that game. Really I don't know many people that have played the game let alone remember it. In my opinion if Square Enix really wanted a character to put in Smash, I would pick a Dragon Quest character, since unless Final Fantasy VII is being made for WiiU, you would have to buy two different systems to play Smash and the game that's being advertised. Dragon Quest VII and VIII are being remade for 3DS. If one or both happen to be Japan only games, it would be the same thing they did with Mother 3 and Lucas.
And now Soul Calibur hosted Geralt of Rivia who probably fit the most (tho even at the time, Kratos was a ting in Soul Calibur games and having his magical giant and canonically powerful blade, two other magical swords with chains thanks to the blades of chaos, magical powers and abilities and the greek influence like Sophitia I’d say he fit the most in a Soul calibur game)
I feel Ezio in Soul Calibur V was more fitting than Link. Link fit as well but Ezio blended perfectly with the characters and settings to the point that someone unfamiliar with Assassin's Creed could mistake him for just another Soul Calibur character.
So true, to me the only thing I remember link for is his sad combos, and his move set allowed u to follow up if you dropped a combo with his extra weapons making him irritating as a boss character.
Eric Hardeman You are correct I never played an Assassin's Creed game back then so I thought he was apart of the roster because there are two characters with hidden blades and I thought the mustache dude was a pseudo clone of Ezio like Siegfried to Nightmare.
I'm willing to bet if Mr.TopTenList does a remake of this video, the number 1 fitting guest character would be Sora from Kingdom Hearts in Smash Ultimate.
How about these guest characters? Aino Heart from Arcana Heart in Nitro+ Blasterz Heroines Infinite Duel Selvaria Bles (and also Alicia Melchiott) from Senjou no Valkyria (Valkyria Chronicles) in Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax
What about this: RWBY in Blazblue Cross Tag, Es from X-blaze in Blazblue Central Fiction, Sion Eltnum in Under Night in Birth, 2B from Nier in Soul Calibur 6, Negan from AMC's the walking dead in Tekken 7, Ryougi Shiki from Kara no Kyuokai in Melty Blood: Actress Again.
Saki Tsuzura What about Neptune from Neptunia in Senran Kagura? Or Iori Yagami from KOF in million arthur arcana blood? Neptunia for Blazblue Cross Tag Anyone?
What I really wish to happen is for Aoi Umenokouji to be in DOA5 Last Round (hopefully the last gen versions, to fill in the missing spot that Mai Shiranui didn't appear in the last gen versions).
Link in soul calibur 2 felt the most right as far as guest characters in a fighting game. When it comes to "weapon based fighting", link defines "weapons" better than almost any other character. Sword, bow and arrow, shield, bombs, boomerang, perfect fit for soul calibur
I say at the end of the segment Akira is the choice of bunch going by importance, and Sarah would be the sole choice if I was going by pure favorites. That being said, I meant to say 1 franchise cameoing per series, so the all characters from Virtua Fighter in Number 10 would have been fine if I articulated that point better. That rule was meant to prevent games that had guests from multiple franchises from crowding the list.
+MrTopTenList funny scorpion fit in injustice but kratos is not in mk. it's like saying scorpion is stronger than kratos because he can stab and beat superman. also, scorpion didn't take a super pill because he isn't canon.
Jodel Dominguez Well that part of the Kratos section was mostly a joke. I think Kratos fits in MK considering how well his moves were integrated, his appearance, and his violent tone. I generally overanalyze for the sake of a joke in my videos. The only serious reason I found Kratos strange at first is how much they had to downgrade his power compared to other MK guests since MK likes to explain how these characters fight evenly (a game like Smash Bros doesn't, so I would not apply that logic there, for example), but it doesn't bother me since he needs to be balanced for fun and I got used to it very fast. The Scorpion/pill reasoning was more a joke about how weak of a plot device I thought the "Kryptonian Nanotech" was. Overall, while I do have explanations, if it's overanalytical in any video, it's generally a joke. I made a list "analyzing" beards on characters in MKX, for example. Still, I understand why you took all of my Kratos section seriously in the other guest character video. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed the rest of the videos!
Why does everyone keep forgetting that Injustice Gods Among Us was a carry over from Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe? "It just fit"... they were literally JUST in a game together a year earlier... I wouldn't be surprised if the entire MK roster is still buried in the Injustice game data somewhere.
Aaahhh Link. He definitely MADE the SC franchise with his inclusion in II. I'll be honest, though. Of the three SCII guests, Spawn was my favorite (even though they were both BROKEN). As others have said, Ezio in V should've edged out Link as the better guest. He fit in PERFECTLY. Also...we can't have more than one character per franchise on the list...but we can have the same character 3 times? (Cyber-Akuma was only mentioned, but still). I think maybe the Akuma appearances should've all tied in one spot. All that aside, this was a great list and I'm really enjoying the channel. I would love to see a list of guest appearances gamers wish would happen, as well as maybe a best guest character appearances in all of gaming list.
I agree with #1 because at the time I had a ps2 but when SC2 came out I knew ps2 sucked only having Hihachi when GC had link. I bought the gamecube for that game. Lucky it had a better version of RE4 and Twilight Princess was awesome.
I knew about and played Soul Blade and Soul Caliber before Link in SC2 (Still own Soul Caliber on Dreamcast). Actually played SC2 on PS2 way before I took on the Game Cubes unpredictable step above sales against it's counterparts. I've always been curious as to who actually played as Spawn on the X....
In minute 12:33 you say "other original characers in rival schools" but the characters depicted are NOT from Rival Schools, the character is "JUN" from "Star Gladiator" Also from Capcom
Yeah, that was a mistake on my end. Basically, I forget Hayato was in Star Gladiators and think he was in Rival Schools on occasion since both games have become somewhat obscure and were early Capcom 3D fighters, which makes me think anything from that game is Rival Schools if I don't take a second to think. I've made sure to separate the screenshots I have of those two games to avoid an error like that in the future.
It could be that game cube was a new take on a console, And although it's discontinued it's one of the greatest consoles of time, And it had game boy iteration.
I have Rival Schools! I would use Sakura all the time. The physics are similar to the Marvel games. Sakura can do both normal and anti air fireballs. The simple team move has Sakura coming in and doing her Shun Goku Satsu! The game's 2nd disc has 2 different anime endings and one of them does have a scene in the green room and Sakura has a strange look on her face as her in game costars begin fighting like they're real amateur at being in a gamr.
Tekken and Street Fighter should just BE a single franchise. Seriously, they're awesome by themselves, but put them together and you've got something that could dominate the fighting genre.
I disagree, I think SF is a lot cartoonier and goofier, while Tekken goes for a (just barely) more grounded feel. SF feels like a saturday morning cartoon while Tekken feels like a Seinen battle anime.
As always, nice top. Can I suggest a personal top by you about which guest characters would you like to see in fighting games? If you want to make it as a crossover, tell me.
I currently do not have plans to make the video, so I can't say whether I'll make the video or not. If you want to send them, feel free to, but currently the suggestion on my list of many ideas from commenters, so if you want to hold off, that's fine, too.
Akuma in Tekken 7 is perfect, seeing how his Raging Demon powers fit perfectly into Tekken's magic based attack roster, and him being Japanese and a martial artist didn't reduce any advantages of adding him. And the Satsui No Hado is a really good rage art.
+MrTopTenList I was hoping u would put Bayonetta in Smash Bros on the list since she has appeared in 2 crossovers with Anarachy reigns being the first back in 2013
Justin Gochioco I actually forgot about Anarchy Reigns. We decided to give her a shoutout in the Smash Bros section since I wasn't sure if she's entirely guest character now that she's Nintendo exclusive based. AT thought she'd count, so I felt like giving her a partial spot with number 6.
I think Capcom should put Hinata from Rival School as a Season 5 Character in Street Fighter V, as a Favor for Sakura Guest Starring in Rival Schools 2 decades before.
The Link you showed while you were talking about different console versions of Soul Calibur 2 was from Twilight Princess, and therefore didn't exist when the game was made.
King of Tekken Guest Characters DLC Soul Calibur II: Heihachi Mishima Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2: Lars Alexandersson Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Kazuya Mishima Marvel vs Capcom 4: Jin Kazama
Sakura Ryu Ken Akuma Sean Being in any fighting game that is good will tell me GO GET THAT GAME IT HAS A STREET FIGHTER CHARACTER I MUST SEE REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING AS WELL!
I forgot that international ratings have different age ranges. E10+ games would have likely been T before that rating was created, which is probably why Sm4sh received the lighter rating compared to its predecessors (even though E10+ existed in 2008). Still, it doesn't change your point that shirtless Shulk is the hype sex appeal of Sm4sh.
MrTopTenList To be fair even Zero suit samus back in brawl didn't shy away from not so subtle butt shots in the story mode. Although I heard the real reason Brawl was rated T was Warios farts.
Didn't you say you were going to pick one character in a bunch and the first game you talk about, you go over the 3 virtual fighter characters in DOA... did I misunderstand you?
At the end of the segment, I say "if I had to pick just 1, Akira" to keep with the criteria. I just felt the characters were all on the same playing field, so discussing them all made more sense.
I think sonic was the best edition to a fighting game ever. think about this for a second. everyone always said Mario and sonic would be great to see in a fist fight. but no one expected it. Then it finally happend. and the end result was fantastic
I think they all fit to an extent since they either have origins in comics or feel like Netherealm characters (the MK characters). I think Raiden was one too many MK characters, so he's my least favorite of them, but at least they gave him a Black Thunder skin. The Turtles are a bit out of place design-wise, but they don't clash with the other character designs to a point where they look like they should be in another game. They're kind of like Rash in KI, which was a weird-looking choice, but fits in basically every aspect of the game.
Man, I played the shit out of Rival Schools back in the day. There's actually an indie band called Rival Schools who named their first album United by Fate, clearly a nod to the first game. I miss that game.
I mention at the end of that segment that Akira is the "official" Number 10 and Sarah would be Number 10 if I just went by favorites. The one per franchise rule more applied to guests in games from different series, like how MKX had various guest characters from different horror franchises. The Virtua Fighter characters are basically hte same in how well they fit. Still, I could have clarified that better.
Link's backstory in soul calibur 2 made no sense though, allegedly having been mentored by Raphael, a fencer. his primary fighting style fit more with cassandra and sophitia
lets face it, Akuma fits perfect in any fighting game
even on Tekken lol
Akuma IS fighting game himself.
He is perfect for mortal kombat! i guess vega and bison fits too but i would love to see akumas fatality!

I totally thought Ryu would've gotten that SM4SH spot, especially since he is an actual fighter who can somehow shoot blue fireballs.
I agree with predator fitting in Mortal Kombat
It also helps that Link's Voice Actor also voices Siegfried in later Soul Calibur games
it was always the same voice actor
true, but Siegfried was not playable until SC 3

I'm a server split between Link and Spawn in Soul Calibur. But I'm upset that Nintendo didn't let Link in Soul Calibur 2 HD online.
No that's not why. First Scorpion is a demon human with magic. One of Superman's weakness is MAGIC!
Scorpion isn't human wraiths don't have souls scorpion is basically a vengeful spirit
Superman isn't really weak to magic, he's just not resistant to it

I forgot how epic the children of the atom cover is.
Thank goodness I STILL have Soul Calibur 2 for GameCube!
Jason is also most fitting too
I really like this video
Glad to hear it!
The picture at 1:35 is Jahn Lee, not Akira.
Between the Zelda franchise and Fire Emblem...
*Cries in Meta Knight*
link in sc2 was a cop out as this character was only in the nintendo version with sony having heihachi and microsoft having spawn (lucky)
that Akuma crossover prediction was uncanny! badumptss .......
Akuma twice thooo lol
Sweet Tooth was in PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal, I dunno if that's considered a Guess Star, but that is deffinately a weird one, oO
15:55 I can agree but Jason is none to full on fight his opponents more times than not.
Twilight princess was also one of the best console generation spanning games too, being for both the gamecube and wii.
The gamecube version of SC2 was my favorite of the franchise for THIS reason alone lol all i ever used was Link
Ezio. He was Soul Calibur V's saving grace
you forgot to mention Jacky being in DoA5
Technically, Cloud and Snake work well, the first Metal Gear was on the NES and Cloud is the face of Final Fantasy which started on the NES
Thanks! If I decide to look back into guest characters, that could be a good topic for me to look into.
Can I send you my ideas in private?
I currently do not have plans to make the video, so I can't say whether I'll make the video or not. If you want to send them, feel free to, but currently the suggestion on my list of many ideas from commenters, so if you want to hold off, that's fine, too.
Killer Instinct looks like a cool fighting game
Akuma in Tekken 7 is perfect, seeing how his Raging Demon powers fit perfectly into Tekken's magic based attack roster, and him being Japanese and a martial artist didn't reduce any advantages of adding him. And the Satsui No Hado is a really good rage art.
Shun Goku Satsu(Raging Demon) is the name of his Finisher.
Bo Rai Cho, Triborg, Tremor, Tanya, even though they aren't on the list they aren't guest characters but I'm pretty sure you already knew that
Nice list!
Thanks!
She was made by Platnuim Games who used to be Clover Studios from Capcom.
Why didn't link return in later soul calibur games
I think Capcom should put Hinata from Rival School as a Season 5 Character in Street Fighter V, as a Favor for Sakura Guest Starring in Rival Schools 2 decades before.
so fun seeing how Namco/Bandai would later on help with Smash bros 4 :)
The Link you showed while you were talking about different console versions of Soul Calibur 2 was from Twilight Princess, and therefore didn't exist when the game was made.
King of Tekken Guest Characters DLC
Soul Calibur II: Heihachi Mishima
Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm 2: Lars Alexandersson
Super Smash Bros Ultimate: Kazuya Mishima
Marvel vs Capcom 4: Jin Kazama
Never played sc2 but I remember hearing link broke it with his projectiles
another guest that you forgot was lars from tekken 6 in naruto ninja storm 2
Kratos in a Soulcalibur would be awesome!
Kratos is in a Soul Calibur game for the PSP.
Cool. I didnt know that. Thanks man
you are on the 💰 with predator and link awesome.!
top ten archtype or tropes or cliches in fighting games
link is definitely #1
Sakura Ryu Ken Akuma Sean Being in any fighting game that is good will tell me GO GET THAT GAME IT HAS A STREET FIGHTER CHARACTER I MUST SEE REVIEWS BEFORE BUYING AS WELL!
Project x Zone has Rival School and others
Geese Howard in Tekken 7 seems like an even better fit than Akuma (at least, to me).
this video is older :(
(Street Fighter) Akuma/Gouki - Tekken 7
(Fatal Fury) Geese howard - Tekken 7
(Final Fantasy 13) Noctis Caelum - Tekken 7
(Walking Dead) Negan - Tekken 7
(Batman) Joker - Mortal Kombat 11
Negan is from The Walking Dead.
Akuma made the list twice
Should have had a different choice for 1 of them
Smash is rated 12+ in the PAL version Bayonetta is nothing compared to shirtless Shulk.
***** ok ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
MrTopTenList
To be fair even Zero suit samus back in brawl didn't shy away from not so subtle butt shots in the story mode. Although I heard the real reason Brawl was rated T was Warios farts.
But Arale is part of the DBZ universe because she is canon in dragonball so she doesn't count as a guest
Watching this video after Akira Kazama from Rival Schools joined the Street Fighter roster
MrTopTenList I see. I like Pai and Jacky
I think sonic was the best edition to a fighting game ever. think about this for a second. everyone always said Mario and sonic would be great to see in a fist fight. but no one expected it. Then it finally happend. and the end result was fantastic
hey mrtoptenlist injustice 2 has hellboy, raiden, sub zero, and the turtles in the game what do you think about those guest characters
The Virtual Fighter Look like a the guy from Yakuza
What about Karin from *Sakura Ganburu!* in Street Fighter 5 & the Alpha series?
+The JK4 Network sakura ganburu is still in street fighter universe
True.
yeah thats why Sakura, and Karin appeared in street fighter alpha 3 (Yes I know Sakura appeared in alpha 2 first but Karin appeared in alpha 3)
You forgot Jacky Bryant the DOA segment there. He's Sarah's brother. lol
Man, I played the shit out of Rival Schools back in the day. There's actually an indie band called Rival Schools who named their first album United by Fate, clearly a nod to the first game. I miss that game.
It's funny how he says only one guest character will be chosen out of the bunch and the very first entry has 3 guest characters
Still, I could have clarified that better.
cool list. I'd like to suggest: top 10 fighters with natural elemental abilites (fire, water, wind, earth, etc)
Also I honestly find it cheap that you added akuma twice.
I really hope I didn't offend you with my comment.
Sounds like a fun idea. And no worries, dude!
Top 10 Guest Characters in Fighting Games:
1. Akira Yuki (Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax)
2. Darth Vader (Soul Calibur 4)
3. Homura (Nitroplus Blasterz)
4. Noctis Lucis Caelum (Tekken 7)
5. Kasugano Sakura (Rival Schools)
6. Hornet (Fighters Megamix)
7. Solid Snake (Super Smash Brothers Brawl)
8. Convoy/Optimus Prime (DREAMMIX TV WORLD FIGHTERS)
9. Eltnam (UNDER NIGHT IN-BIRTH)
10. Z-Gouki (Cyberbots Full Metal Madness)
That is all.
Havent heard of Melty Blood but since I loved Under Night Eltnum was a surprise
Link's backstory in soul calibur 2 made no sense though, allegedly having been mentored by Raphael, a fencer. his primary fighting style fit more with cassandra and sophitia
