- Today we meet John, Pam, and a beautiful 1954 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop that John was given by his dad years ago - a guitar he grew up watching his dad play. A couple of weeks ago John and Pam had a fire on their property causing tremendous damage, with both of them thankfully unharmed. Though the guitar was safe in the main house, it was a close enough call that they decided it was time to find a new home for it, and contacted Emerald City Guitars to help find that new home.

This channel is better than Netflix.
Video quality and editing is superb.
Happy these kind people were not hurt, sad to have to part ways with this beautiful guitar. I sincerely hope they do well and all the best of luck.
Amen.
Best of luck to John and Pam!
Beautiful story, beautiful family and a beautiful guitar.
Great People on all sides of this transaction!!!!!!! so nice and positive....inspiring!!!! cheers!!!
That was special. Love the stories behind guitars that have been loved and cared for by families through generations. I'm so sorry for their fire but at least they were not hurt
I love these story videos so much!❤❤❤
I love that she name-checked Bonnie Raitt…(and SRV of course.). Saw Bonnie live a few nights ago and her guitar playing and voice are still incredible at age 73. Absolute legend…
Stunningly beautiful Gold Top. I absolutely love it, and love these stories. Still surprises me how many gems are still out there.
A good clean-up, electrical contact cleaner and maybe scrape/bend the jack socket on the Guitar and a new cable . The sound is just incredible , that amp was made to go with a P90 Les Paul. Top marks to the Mrs for teaching Hubby to play!!
DeoxIT D5 will clean it up.
Emerald was very gracious in the way they handled this.
Such a beautiful guitar and story along with it. Thank you for telling these peoples’ story. Always loved the 54 les paul because the one and only Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson :)
Thanks for bring that to mind.I am a Canned Heat fan from way back and hopefully people reading this will go and discover the band and the brilliance of Alan Wilson,The Bear,Mole,Sunflower and Fito.
Triscuits and vintage guitars. 🙌🙌🙌
Such a pristine looking guitar and amp. Amazing
The lancer was introduced into the catalog in 1959
Looks like a 59' or 60', so Dad must have bought it 5 years after the Goldtop.
What a great history that guitar has. The new owner will be lucky to own it.
i am going yo own it 1 day
This reminds me of my journey to Eddie's house. We were near each other at a bar drinking draught beer and tomato juice. We started chatting and music came up. He said he had a guitar he might want to sell. We finished our beers and went to Eddie's house. From under the bed, he slid the tweed case. Blonde 1959 Fender telecaster with slab rosewood fingerboard and clay dots. Original strap, cord and his sales slip from January 1960. Then he went to the closet and pulled out a Fender Vibrolux with the original slipcover. This was in the mid 1980s. I returned the following day and bought the pair.
Who is Eddie?
@@Factory_Muff Eddie was an old man sitting in a bar.

Wow you all did such a fantastic job of representing this guitar and telling it and the owner's stories!! 👍 Bravo! Great presentation!!
Hey I’m That Guy! The one who’s been searching for that guitar! Only problem is as soon as I saw it my eyes burnt down
I plead to the universe on a daily basis for me to find the Fortune and blessing to be able to obtain a 1950s Les Paul to create with as a extension of myself and let my soul and emotion shine through the instrument amazing video Thank you for sharing... and the dream will never die ..✌️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Thanks for sharing the story/journey
Awesome story!! Great looking and sounding Goldtop!
I absolutely love this! All too often the stories about the people are lost and that's what makes these instruments truly special is learning about where they've been and appreciating their history.... then when you pick it up you realize how insignificant you are... how brief life can be... and that one day someone else might be playing that guitar, thinking about you after your long gone... I dunno what that experience is exactly, but I'm brazen enough to say what whatever that is..... I think that's the whole point.
Great story on the guitar, but very sad for what happened to these wonderful folks.
Thanks ECG crew for this video! It’s nice to see a father and son going on a guitar safari doing what they do best! Cheers! 😀
Much respect to you Guys !!!
We love Goldtops! So happy I found your guys channel. Such great story telling with an amazing family dynamic! Cheers boys!
Love the story! Love the guitar! Thanks.
Thank you so much for sharing these stories...
Wow, such a great family.
What a great story! Very good camera work, it was clear, steady, and precisely edited. Too many people move the camera erratically, its like watching blair witch. So glad that amazing guitar was not lost in that fire. One thing is certain that Gold Top will find a loving home. Emerald City has a good vibe, it was a good choice going with them, it seemed meant to be.
What a lovely Les Paul and amp combo really nice.
Sometimes bad things happen to good people. But the bright side is we all got to hear this story from interesting people.
Thanks for sharing, sad and sweet story. If you guys are up for a road trip, The Indiana Guitar Show is April 1st and 2nd, it’s a good one!!
Great Story - Great People - Hopefully they get a Murphy 54 to remind them of there Dad and pass down the story. Even though it's not the original that would be cool.
the sound of history ... love my '55 special
Fantastic video Jay & Trevor! So good to see you both on the big screen (well on my computer screen at least...). Heart tugging story of their family's loss to the fire but a heartwarming story of their musical history with his father and their own story as well. Amy and I were in Lynden last Saturday ourselves visiting David and his wife Alexis, Whatcom county is beautiful indeed. As is the '54 Goldtop you share with us here! I especially love the vertical checking lines and the yellowed trapezoid markers, so sweet! This video is super, please give kudos to your camera person and as always the very best to you both. Peace to you and yours, Scott
Great video, wonderful story, fantastic guitar! 👌🏻
So beautiful, love the story!!! Thanks.
Great story. Lovely people. Cool gold top, what more do you need...
Well done Gents!!
Hopefully these folks get back to normal soon.
AMAZING THANK YOU
I could watch these all day!!! Great job these videos are worth 1000x the views that end up getting ;-)
What a beauty...
John must remember "Polka Varieties" and "The Gene Carroll Show". My father was Slovenian and watched "Polka Varieties" every Sunday at 1 p.m. At age 3 I sat on Frankie Yankovic's lap.
I wonder how gracious they were with the price offer..
cool guitar amazing editing and filming
My dream guitar. Love a goldtop.
Awsome guitar, I’m glad you beat JB to it.
I hope the family did ok…💵💵💵💵…nice family…..❤..54 gold top..all original and that Gibson tweed ..nothing sounds like real aged wood…not reissues….and that amp..clean out controls….that amp will give you that old tweed tone…what a combo…the tid bits playing you can hear the p90’s resonate…..
if I had a dollar for every story about loss due to chicken coups. It's happened to two friends of ours - trying to keep chickens warm in winter. What an incredible story.
So cool 😎
Digging Pam's guitar strap!
Phenomenal.
Nice video Jay.
Man, I can imagine Joe Bonamassa scratching his head right now . . . and fighting against himself saying "No Joe, not another one . . . stop Joe . . . not this time..." :)
Therein lies the problem.Guys like him buying up every collectible guitar that he hears about which leaves everyone else without having a chance at owning only one special instrument and especially to play it.
,,,,,,,,.......... What Dreams are made of .........,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,........right away,,beautiful tone sound,,,,,,A-PLUS.....land o' lakes,wi........
Before turning on amp and plugging in guitar, noiselessly remove 90% of dirt from pots by rotating volume and tone knobs.
Beautiful couple and how much did you steal the gold top for lucky person. Great find.
Nice GA-6
How much did you guys buy it for?
The 1954 Gibson Les Paul + Lancer Amp + Banjo + Martin D-28 are worth more than the house.
Kids don't let your parents sell their cool collectibles: Shelby Mustang GT500 / GT350, Chevy Corvettes from the 1950s-60s, 1950s Gibson Les Pauls, Fender 1950s Nocasters, Broadcasters, Tele's and Strat's, Moog Synths, Marshall 1960s-70s Amps...
I like how these guys are defending the guitar. Brother, there's not much that's going to take value away from this. Scratchy pots, whatever. Belt buckle rash? No problem. Someone with means wants this.
Dude needs a go fund me not sell his prized possession. Never mind Family scared grandpa out of prize possession.
Yeah, I feel that. But other side of the coin, didn't sound like it was going to see any use or certainly give the most it had where it was, so like the lady said, hopefully it goes to someone who's going to get the most out of it - and not to some collector.
@Ed Raposo hey friend, I’m not Brazilian and don’t speak Portuguese, you talk about Portuguese politics?
I think your right, the Mrs could have told the story to the World and got as much bread from the news papers and music mags. A Family heirloom gone forever. That's the way of the World .
I hope the guitar will go to the hands of a professional player!
@@Mountainrock70 a pro wont be able to afford it! Some rich collector will buy it!
This is sad. Honestly I would agree he needs a go fund me to keep the guitar
I think neithor of them really played it
Chicken Heat lamps = Fire
it is a Firebird
i would be contacting joe bonamassa immediatly. You know he would jump on it
amp looks to be a 1960 not 1954
I guess it could be a 1959 or 1961 as well
Great story...ill buy it!!!😂
Great story, but "fire survivor?" He kept the goldtop in the main house, with the amp... Maybe Joe Bonamassa will buy it?
Stunning guitar and what a nice family I'd love those snacks:)
Nobody else sees a hipster Ted Danson 😂
I don't even like to leave comments on here cause they're always going to be negative.
I found this video deeply saddening. I wonder if these guys had insurance or, if they did, whether they expected that the insurance would not cover them. It otherwise seems very premature to sell such a treasure only a week after the fire. Perhaps they are really desperate for the money and are totally out of pocket. The website shows the guitar and amp already discounted and priced lower than I’d expect so maybe they just need money, even if it means taking less than they should for the guitar.
Buen video, solo me hubiese gustado que otro guitarrista mas instruido haga la.pruba.
Nice people. I hope the money from the guitar covers their losses.
Will give you 2500 ...
Yeah it sparks ⚡️ unfortunately my wallet does not..
that guitar is a log, looks heavy, lucky it was't in the fire(no offence) it would still be burning
There selling it for half its value….Sad Day
This video could have been 6 minutes long
Rich people problems
Elaborate
Rich people? They look like middle class folks who have had 50 years of wealth accumulation. These folks ain’t rich at all.
Kind of a dick thing to say after what they went through.
You should Do this more often... Show the Story behind the Instruments you get... thats very interesting
great guitar but unfortunate circumstances them
If it was converted to a 59 with all 58 to 60 parts, would it be worth more than it is in all original condition?
If I ever get a Burst, it would have to be a conversion. Or would that be sacrilegious?
Why not leave the originals as they are and get a custom shop or have a luthier build you a replica with old Timbers? No need to destroy something amazing to make another ‘59 burst replica
Surely not and you would destroy a perfectly good Goldtop.
Not going to be worth more once you modify any part of it. However, if you convert a 52 trapeze type to a 59 spec then you would have a very nice playing and sounding ax that would be as close to a real 59 if done properly with the neck angle reset. A 52 conversion done right can be worth a good amount but usually less than it being left along.
@@MY-qx3gd Getting the old growth wood is impossible for most of us. And it being a guitar for that long has something to do with resonance it has.
@@MY-qx3gd Because I want a 59 Burst. And I don't have $500k laying around.
👍👍👍👏👏👏
