One of the major specialities of Tendulkar was his effortless batting. This made batting look easy, even against such legendary bowlers as Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, McGrath, Ambrose, Walsh, Donald, Steyn, Warne, Muralitharan, et al. His strike rate was phenomenal for his generation. Until he was on the crease, India was always in the driver's seat.

179 to be precise. And thus started the problem of the 170’s as for many years Sachin couldn’t get past this classic 179. I remember screaming in disbelief when he got out for 177 against Australia in Bangalore. And I’m sure there were a few more knocks in the 170’s. But this was pure blissful batting against a tough and strong WI. Thanks for sharing!

This WI attack wasn't necesarily strong. They were missing Ambrose and Bishop who didn't tour India due to injuries. Courtney Walsh was the only world class bowler in this attack. The likes of Kenny Benjamin was just emerging and Andy Cummings was a fast medium who didn't have much pace . The spinner Dhanraj was ordinary

Yes true he got stuck in this zone for a long time till his double hundred in 1999 in the third innings in a classic test match where India folded for 83 in the first innings against New Zealand. That match was always as Good as the Eden epic in Kolkata.

@@shanthakumark7540 I think you have dementia so go back and check the records in espncricinfo. The New Zealand series we are talking about the first test only at Mohali and Tendulkar scored 217 in the second innings after India had folded for 83 (corrected from 75- i also had to look at the records ,but my 75 was pretty close to the actual 83)in the first innings .It was the first time i saw a team score 500+ in the second innings after not scoring even a 100 in the first innings. Kiwis narrowly escaped a defeat after being 7 down in the fourth innings and game ended in a draw.I still remember even the last wicket to fall was of Stephen Fleming caught of kumbles bowling. The reason i remember is that it is unheard of that a team which fails to get to hundred in the first innings was looking to almost win that match. If you can't remember something maybe you can take brahmi saag in your diet for better memory .

This is the tipping point in a friendship. Vinod Kambli's career was being destroyed by the West Indies fast bowlers.....and Tendulkar was climbing on the road to greatness. And how did I miss this Tendulkar innings- it is easily one of his best, against REALLY good bowling. Those hook shots (including the one he got to 100) were shots no Indian could play. And Kambli was taken out & destroyed by those exact same balls.

Tendulkar was an extraordinary batsman in the post-1980 era in terms of technique/skill, consistency and aggression.
Its sad to see that most people dont analyse his technical Skill.
He was a text book style batsman, slightly more bottom -handed, natural stroke maker and could play all shots in the book. He used to make good use of the crease, improvise using wrist work and play a wide range of shots. A great player of cuts, pull/hooks and straight drive. Exceptional step out-and-charge player of spin. However, he stopped playing his aggressive cuts and step out shots after 2000/01 due to injury.
A good player of spin as well as pace bowling, Tendulkar has dominated most top bowlers from across 4 generations, expect few. I would place only few contemporary batsman on par with Tendulkar in terms of technical prowess in the above areas- Graham Hick, Saeed Anwar, Damien Martyn and Daryll Cullinan (Lara was also extraordinary but his batting style was unconventional).
People who watch modern era batsmen like Sharma, Kohli, De Villiers and co may feel that Tendulkar was less aggressive but the conditions and quality of bowling back then was much challenging.

  • @vantheman1238

What is so great about Tendulkar is his incredible technique. He gets into position so early and has plenty of time to play against world class fast bowlers. He’s fearless and he is a beautiful player who scored big hundreds on all surfaces in all countries.

He was indeed the work horse of that WI attack. As skipper for that series the WI were also missing their regular captain Richie Richardson, also missing from that series were were Haynes, Ambrose, Bishop and Winston Benjamin. The WI were on the verge of losing a series but came back to win the 3rd test to square the series. India could have easily been 2-0 after this second test that Tendular scored the 179 not out in

His playing style makes it difficult for any bowler to get him out....or control...

To be honest and still been the biggest fan of Sachin, I must say that he was so vulnerable to get out at the start of his career, I personally feel that if there were the bowlers of today's era at that time, they would easily swallow this kid through their accuracy....

Todays era bowlers would not hold a candle in front of 90s bowlers. Even in Ashes this year not a single bowler can hold a line and length for long time. Either it’s all short or full. Fast bowling is a lost art at this point

Which era is this guy talking about, bowling does not exist in modern cricket, it's all about batting.
