    In this video, I take a look at why my Kenwood KR-1000 "Galaxy Commander" stopped working. It turns out the repair was extremely simple, but while I had it apart, I took care of some other things to make it a little more reliable.

    Those first years of ss stereo receivers are some fun units. 120 watts with a alarm clock.

    Just won a goodwill online auction for the black version of one of these. All the lights looked like they worked in the photos and the description said it's working but that's all the they said! Hoping for the best within the next week or so when it gets here and I put it on my dim bulb!!

    I'll be checking mine for any solder connection failures too.

      @@AHFixIt What, you sold Sadie's morning warmer upper? Why would you do such a thing? (only half joking too, not just that the cat would be disappointed but that's about THE single best bedroom set/alarm clock I can think of). Maybe you replaced it with a tube set for the winter? lol

    Massive alarm clock…Love it! Nicely done and I liked the quick edit (and cleverness) on your makeshift tool to get those hard to access screws. They make screwdrivers with flexible shafts for that purpose, too. I saw Glasslinger using one recently in one of his videos and picked up a set for myself.

    Interesting failure. I wonder what caused the solder joint/pad to fail in the first place. I'm guessing a poor solder joint from the factory, causing a high resistance connection, and heat, until failure.

  • @erikdenhouter
    @erikdenhouter 2 года назад

    Schematic at 4:23 : I more wondered what you had on that switched outlet where the relays contact went. That failed joint looked as it has to carry a few amps, so you had something connected there, or a larger fault shorted the outlet.

    howdy, nice troubleshooting. I hope your cat will be happy with the fix. How did the Magnapan speakers with the treble wire go? I heard your other ones and they sounded fantastic but very directional. Your videos are very fun, thanks for doing them, regards Richard

    Very cool video. I like those old big Kenwood’s. Speaking of clocks, I have been looking at this Sansui model Z-7000 that is really kind of a monster. It doesn’t seem to get too much respect in the forums however. Puts out 90 W per channel. The seller is asking $380. The thing that has me interested, it is new old stock. The guy picked it up from an estate and the owner of it said he only took it out of the box to engrave his name on the back of the receiver and then put it away. Has less than five minutes play time. Seeing as how it’s been sitting in a box since 1983, what kind of problems do you think I’m going to be looking out with this beast? By the way I saw it on eBay. By the way, it has a clock and a timer on it as well. That was the actual reason I was commenting to you.

      I'd expect dirty controls, hard to say without looking at it or knowing exactly what climate it was stored in. Cool looking unit!
