Ramana never said a word about Poonja's spiritual state though. There was no corroboration of Poonja's claim of realization.

Indeed! There was never any confirmation from Ramana Maharshi that any of his disciples had awakened! Unfortunately, everyone who refers to him is not awakened, but thinks they are awakened. I never guite understood how the true being is love. I somehow feel love is a state of being arises in the awareness and awareness is totally neutral. Like silent space.
