Our MY03 9-5 Aero Estate is our daily. And with 2 of the kids having their license.... It's even more used! I still love the car. Tuned to 340/380 bhp on petrol/e85 (STG5 Blacktop-Tuning) you can keep up with most. And when you've reached 200 km/h you just give it some more to pass them :-) Perfect Autobahn vehicle.
Daily driving my 24yo aero and will probably daily drive it for 10 more years. Now that winter is once again here, I can only smile wide trying to brighten my commuting through the countless icy roundabouts by left foot braking. How silly was I at younger age, thinking you need rwd to enjoy car control. Someone has put some serious thought in the driving dynamics of this E-segment car. A successful optician in Sweden, who could afford a new executive car priced at nearly two years of average salary, took his spoiled children to school with it. Now those children are in their 30's but the same car still keeps taking todays ordinary kids to school in Finland. It cold starts every time from -25C and takes me to work and back until I get bored at it. But will I ever? Drove 1200km + for family christmas holidays in a bad weather, and it felt like nothing, like a blink of an eye, because of this masterpiece of a car. I also did most of my two house moves with this, and haul all our firewood home inside it. And the build quality... Almost 25 years and 400 000 km of rough use and nothing rattles, nothing creaks, nothing leaks. Very seldomly anything breaks. I feel very privileged to get to secretly enjoy such a premium product every day, and will pass that product for the generations to come. One day European made cars will be like cars made in Soviet nowadays: At least they exist and work like they did from the beginning, unlike most of the crap made afterwards.
My 22 year old 240k miles 9-5 Aero wagon is still going strong. It's had a few bits replaced but that's to be expected. Drives perfectly. Very comfortable. Never let me down. Will keep it going as long as I can. Very interesting video. Thanks.
What a wonderful video, I had not seen that previously. I had a 9-5 SE Airflow estate in red, apparently a rare colour in the UK, with only a handful imported. It is sad that Saab's are disappearing from out roads quire rapidly, even in Sweden. I finally visited the Museum in Trollhattan in September 2024, thankfully there are many Saab's driving around the area. Sadly I do not currently own a Saab, my cars are both German.
Great video. 242,000 km on my 2007 2.0t. Weak points, in my view, are the #1 lack of atf dipstick post 2006 - the opening torx bolt is stuck and I'm on the original atf, rear axle bushes are a weak point, placement of the anti-roll bar bush fasteners, thermostat location, auto gearshift blind (jalousie), head bolts loosened @120,000 causing a HG oil leak and new HG needed, corrosion-protection could be a bit better on subframes - especially wheel wells. Breather box is unable to be removed on RHD cars without major disassembly of alternator etc. which is ridiculous. I can change bulbs without removing bumper - a fine art..! Most of that was GM penny-pinching. GT17 turbo went at 180,000, same with original serpentine belt. Hit a flood in the dark @ 120 km/h and buckled a rim (alu 39) Replaced original DIC @ 235,000 km though car still went okay on original - just smoother now. Replaced rear calipers this year. Original shocks. Interior excellent but premature wear on driver's 'leather' seat. Stereo still works well. Still on original timing chain. I use 10w40 Magnatec, as suggested by my Saab dealer owner back c. 2012. Currently leaking oil from crankshaft seal and possibly timing chain area - I might attend to this come summer but the leak has been there for years. Performed very well over the Christmas period last week, still happy to cruise at 130 km/h. Best range I ever got on 1 tank was 757 km, which I thought was pretty good.. get less now so probably looking at O2 sensor or atf (!) etc. A very, very good car and it (and the other 3 Saabs I own) has/have served me very well - even with any issues it never left me stranded - e.g. when the turbo blew I coasted home downhill from the motorway and could change the turbo on my driveway. I will run it hopefully until I kick the bucket and should any serious issues arise with the engine or gearbox (ATF!!) I will replace the units and continue on. Well done to all who were involved on the 9-5 project.

Hello Marcus & Manuela. Great vídeo from the history of the 9-5. When cars were made to last... to bad GM pull the plug on SAAB 😢 Even so it is such an incredible car the 9-5 specially the early models 98 to 2001, i can vouch for that since i still use one for daily driving and manage to go to sweden and return all the way from Portugal 😅. Keep on the good work with your uploading vídeos of SAAB. Kind regards! Carlos from Portugal 👍
@@carlosbarradas1986 Yes in fact next project is probably a 2,3t aero 1 or 2 gen. I started missing this car badly now. It was a pleasure to meet you! I am stuck driving a Skoda today hope you are doing better 😂
My 2003 9-5 Aero is almost a daily driver. 22 years after it left the factory, it still brings pure joy.

i got the 95 2.0t estate with a slight tune and the 2.3 aero turbo fitted. 555K km on the clock and still going strong. Crazy for a car build in 1999.
Very cool. Beautiful footage. Thank you.

The head gasket issue surprised me. Is that an common issue?
Euroncap 5 stars❤❤❤❤❤
Can't wait to drive my 2004 Saab 9-5 aero. It has 86k original miles. I drove it maybe 15 miles since I bought it 1.5 years ago 🏁🏁🏁😁👍
Gimme? 🥺🤲

Not , beam wipers were in early 70-80s
First , on 9-5 in world mass production were ventilated seats as option

ASMR for engineers
The pictures from winter driving, more models from today would have a tough time keeping up.
11:03 What are they testing here? Differently shaped headlights or LHD RHD traffic?
PS: Very interesting video, thanks!
Was wondering about that, as well.
42:17
That's my country!
But real Thai-spec is NOT LHD
What happens at 6:18? A 9000 CD bodywork on a 9-5 chassie?
0:58 they wanted to do the „floating“ roof in the early 90s already!!! 😳
It's clear to see why Saab failed to turn a profit haha... I would have loved to work there tho ;)
When cars and tuktuks pass you left and right press the accelerator.

Just curious where this design studio was🤔
Nevs 😍
They dont test cars like that anymore sadly
They indeed test more stuff now
1995 1996?
LANCIA 💚🤍❤️
Too bad its an awful unreliable car. Most 9-5 are scrapped now but Volvos from the same era still going strong!
Nooooooo it's not! Volvos has there problems also there are no such cars that exsist that are problem free.
If they would just have painted the front A pillors black ....That hit....
