    Bought one about a year ago just to learn to do fret work. Filed all the fret ends & leveled, truss rod adjust, bridge and lubed all the pots, new strings. Played great. Resold for what I had into it minus my time. Good to learn on for repairs.

    I have 7 glarry guitars. I love the finishes, they have some great colors. I order them and take them to a local guitar builder and have new hardware and pick ups installed and I basically have a strat for about$200.

    • @christopheraaron8299

      I don't see the point when you can get a Squier Strat for under $200. I'm about to buy a Squire Bullet Mustang, they're $179, and I believe the Bullet Strats are the same price (though I believe they're hard tails at that price.) Hell, I got my Squire Affinity Strat for $90 used at a pawn shop, and it's leaps and bounds better than my Glarry (I have 4 Glarrys.) I just bought the GST because I upgraded my Affinity with a loaded pickguard and I wanted something cheap to drop the old Affinity loaded pickguard into and do some other DIY mods.

    • @donavonmacallister3101

      Why do that when the glarry is cheaper and you can mod it the way you want.

    My friend bought the glarry strat and I set it up for him, the pickups may not have great output ohm wise but they are seriously twangy almost Tele like. I suggested he keep them and he did, his guitar needed the fret sprout filed and the nut on the GBE strings wasn't cut deep enough and had the sharp issue when pressing down on the lower frets. For a $69 guitar its great for beginners who may not stick with it, but with a little work as you said can be upgraded and turned into a fun piece. I keep an inexpensive Amp & Guitar in my garage and these are perfect for that. The more expensive gear stays in the house!

      I was impressed with the pickups..I thought they sounded more twangy than a strat lol.i took the bridge pup out and was gonna put a hotrails pup in but put the original back.not every pickup has to be high gain. I have a green one that has evh volume pot , locking staggered tuners, and a bone nut. Neck needed a shim.also put a killswitch in it. Very fun to play.

  • @christopheraaron8299
    @christopheraaron8299 Год назад

    I just ordered a Glarry GST in Green (UPS says it'll be here tomorrow), but I don't really care if the electronics work at all because I'm dumping them for the electronics that were in my Squire Affinity Strat that I upgraded with a loaded pickguard (pearl white with 3 single hot rail pickups, and I painted it Maui Blue.) I'm just gonna drop the whole Squire loaded pickguard in there. I'm also replacing the string trees with titanium roller trees and probably a new nut. I may also swap out the bridge for something a little more hefty, like a used MIM bridge. I'm also considering locking tuners for my Affinity Strat, and if I do that, the Glarry will get the Affinity tuners.
    This will be my 4th Glarry. I also have the new GMF HH (Mustang imitation) and the two Ovation imitations: GT101 and GT102. The GT101 needs a lot of work, but the GT102 is almost as good as my Ovation Applause. I'm still working on getting the GMF HH intonated just right. It's Glarry's first attempt at a 24" scale guitar, so I don't think they got just right, something is off. It's that darn G string, if it's in tune on the open string, it's out of tune when I play any chords.

    I bought a green lefty strat from Glarry after seeing Trogly's video of the same guitar. I was going to do an in depth comparison between the Glarry and a Squier Affinity, but when the Glarry arrived, their was a rattling sound inside the guitar, and no output from the guitar.
    Inside the guitar there were cold solder joints. You didn't need a soldering iron to pull the wires loose. The back tone pot had come completely apart; I had never seen that before.
    The wires to the output jack had also broken off. Apparently the output jack had been twisted, possibly trying to tighten down the jack.
    I replaced to damaged pot with one from an old Squier Telecaster that I upgraded, and rewired the Glarry. I did a little fret work and intonated the Glarry.
    Ultimately, the Glarry turned out really well. It plays well, but a better set of pickups and better electronics would really make the Glarry a great guitar.
    However, my premise was destroyed when I asked how much it would have cost to make the repairs to the Glarry. The cost of the guitar, parts, and labor were more than just buying a Squier Affinity new. Find a Squier Affinity used and the Glarry didn't even stay in the ballpark.
    The discount offered to your customer from Glarry Guitars would make a difference, but the target market for these Glarry guitars is clearly beginners. Few, if any beginners, would have the skills or knowledge to make such repairs on their first guitar which would make an entry level Squier or Epiphone guitar more cost effective.
    Though, I admit to trying to prove the opposite.

    That is a pretty guitar. That simplicity of style. So fixing it up with custom mods and still having the body is worth it on a cheap guitar like that. I figure with the lightweight feel of it that it would now be a really cool guitar for a new player. Could make a hobby project of fixing those things up.

      John Howe I got the monoprice Strat with maple fretboard and blueburst color . In my opinion the glarry has better tuners . The monoprice has a better build quality slightly . The monoprice is like $25 bucks more . The monoprice has a smoother , thinner neck. The glarry has a fatter neck . The monoprice is only a bit better in my opinion . The glarry though , fretboard is great . You really can’t go wrong with either . But of course you’ll have to set them up to your specs .

    Without at least a proper full setup and new strings, these things are pretty bad sound wise. Changing the electronics is also a huge help. After some work they are great guitars for the money! I have a few and my strat style sounds better than a squire for about half the price!

  • @jiverdude2775
    @jiverdude2775 2 года назад

    With the work, time and money, it'd compare to a $250-$300 higher end Squire, which are actually decent quality. I'd play out in a club with one. In fact, the decent upgrade and sounds you can coax from it, it'd be acceptable to play out with. Say a cover band, or Pop, Rock, Alternative Rock, etc. I've seen bands play in a dive bar with expensive gear. High or higher end guitars, drums, etc. Potential damage or theft; nah, just buy a Glarry, upgrade on the cheap, leave the costly stuff at home and go for it. TY.

      No buy a Squire by Fender Strat and Spend $200 on locking Staggered Tuners Tuners a self lubricating Graphtech Nut cut properly after that its kinda up to you what you want to change or upgrade ? Hipshot Locking Tuners are $52 dollars brand new and you dont need string Trees and can Dive bomb all day without going out of tune . I got the H H pup configuration but you want a 57 look and Sound, good single Coils are easy to find stay away from Reverb and be careful on e - bay !! Good Luck Hope you take my advice it will give you what your wanting without as much trouble Squires are Quality Guitars at reasonable prices .

I was going to add a heavy tremolo block and Golden Age pick-ups that are wound heavier with higher resistance than usual. Then of course dress and polish the frets. If I get brave maybe scallop the fret board. I get it for $10 with eBay discounts of I screw it up no loss I can put the parts into a Squier. Good the hear I'm on the right track with the tuners.

      @@DeadShred9 I've heard a lot of good things about Squires. I'm mostly an acoustic player. I got into electric building cigar box guitars. I thought I needed one good electric so I built a clone of a 1950 Fender Broadcaster. I had Warmoth make a neck from original specs and the body is Mexico Fender because they dry the wood the way it was done in the 50s. Now I'm building a strat because why not. But I don't understand these videos, they come and want you to see the video saying a $ 65 dollar guitar. Then the video is to criticize if it is good or not? People are stupid?
    It is obvious if the guitar is not going to be perfect. The thing is, we have so over-evaluated the instruments in this country that now we see a guitar made by slaves in China and we are surprised.
    Extremes are bad. Fenders and Gibson's overvalued who pay their employees a pittance in the USA and cheap Gladys who also pays their employees a pittance in China. I do not know what it's worst.
